    Vegetarian or Vegan VSG ?

Most people probably don't eat like I do. Fresh veggies and fruit, nor do they schedule out Protein sources like Beans, peas and eggs, etc. That's the difference. I eat a fresh salad every day. Spinach is the main base. I've got a malnutrition problem but that is all the complications. Dang sure isn't for anything else.

    Exercises for the Cube Farm

Stretching exercises? How about removing your trash can? I do that so I have to walk to the other end of the office to throw something away. Same for food, opposite end of the office. Bathroom too. That being said it doesn't help my edema, but at least I can walk still for now.

    Vegetarian or Vegan VSG ?

Agreed. I think if you do some different types of checks, you could probably get by with it.

    Maintenance

I second all the above. Great job everyone.
  5. Yeah even the people I know supporting the program, after a couple of years, what is the point in going back? Pay extra money and only have a couple or one day open to me, I may or may not see the surgeon, and if it is a COE, I have to wonder that it isn't for their ASMBS records. They do nothing for those who are farther out having weight gain except to say pay more $$$ to join their non surgery weight loss program. Then there are other places you can go and compare what you get. I've seen the surgeries and done the investigation: what a racket. I'm getting ready to do a blog post. The surgeon's office I had? They asked for people to give them recipes that they'll publish and SELL a book for. Now why would I want to give my recipes up for free so THEY can make $$ off of it and possibly have the copyright too? Who's making $$$ off me? Is this how you want to be treated by your surgeon's office?

    My strugglig

Jem you are in our prayers. I've been there and if there is anything I can help you with ask away. I even took my own bloodwork, etc. so I'm not afraid of doing stuff.
  7. You are lucky. Most insurances I know require more $$ for a specialist. From what I've seen, they sort of ignore you and there are a number I know that are not in the first year, so they're at the bottom of the barrel. They tend to stop coming because they've gotten on with their lives and the fact that practices, when it comes to aftercare after a year out, seem to shuff it off on others (not a surgery issue). Besides, easier to get the PCP or go to urgent care than trotting half way out in many of our cases, to the surgeon. Any one can run the labs.

questions for my plant based friends

I posted a slew of them on one of the other forums: milk (of any type), yogurt, eggs, Protein drinks or powders mixed in with food. When you get a little farther out, Beans of all types, peas, nuts, tofu, tempeh, quinoa, chickpeas, hemp, poppy/sunflower & other types of seeds, seitan, oatmeal, Peanut Butter, lentils, veggie prepared patties, TVH, spinach, cheese, cottage cheese (you have vegan cheeses), spirulina, broccoli, soy stuff, tahini, chia seeds .... and one of my favorites for Fiber and natural sugar: Medjool dates! OMB ...
  9. Actually they all tell you to come back at one year or yearly intervals but the labs they run can be run by any doctor. I have wondered if it is not due to the fact that Centers of Excellence use the data for medical research. My surgeon is a different story. What they tell people and what they do can sometimes be two different things, so that's why I tell people verify, verify, verify. When you have problems and the docs office doesn't follow you up like the other doctors ask them too, but says any one can treat stuff, that should alert you.
  10. Yes. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n3438360.htm it is in Spanish but yes. Translated via Google: Mexicali Plane crash: Killed three of Mexicali La Voz de la Frontera June 23, 2014 By Juan Galvan Small private plane flying from San Luis Gonzaga to Mexicali suffered a failure and crashed into the sea south of San Felipe on land in the municipality of Ensenada, local fishermen rescued three people alive and with their boats they pulled the tickets to the beach to keep the tide take him; that were reported within the bodies of three dead. Three dead: one woman and two men, all of Mexicali; One is Jose Nava, apparently the passenger, the other deceased is Dr. Alberto Aceves and a woman named Ana Laura Brawn, all of Mexicali. Tuition XBBTO aircraft is owned by the company MBC SC Services, established in Avenida Madero 1119-2, second section. 's report that the authorities had the case were limited by poor communication that exist in the area and also took charge of Ensenada authorities, who took hours to reach the scene of the accident intricate, a fishing camp called Rancho Grande, 155 miles south of San Felipe. C4 information reached by the calls of the fishermen, who reported that they saw a Cessna type plane with problems amarizaba violently in an area close to the beach ., which at low tide does not have sank quickly Witnesses came to help and found three people alive, leading them to shore and gave first aid; then in anticipation of rising tide, they decided to pull the plane with their boats onto the beach for them to come the authorities to take cognizance of the facts. The aircraft crashed over the sea with six people on board, three of which were saved and three died; the plane was rescued by fishermen and taken to the shore with the bodies inside. Crew Semar and the Department of Defense, presented the site and indicated that the area where the unit fell is known as The Alfonsinas. At the close of the deceased older data or had no survivors.
  11. You dont have to go to your surgeon after a year. Mine said after 16 months a sleeve has "no further surgical" needs even though they never had me on a regular schedule. You can save yourself the extra $$$ for copays and go to your regular doctor for bloodwork. Note that one of the reasons they want you to come back once a year *may be* for the figures for the ASMBS. I believe they report figures back to there if they are a Center of Excellence. If you did CBC with differential, lipid panel, CMP, and the following vitamins/minerals: B1, B9 (folate), B12, D, full Iron panel, zinc, and if you have eye problems Vitamin A, and if you take Flintstones or any vitamin that doesn't include Vitamin K, get that done. No joke guys, my Vitamin K has been tested twice and NEVER by my former surgeon, and it is so low it never registered. I did Flinstones and then changed to a few generics around until I went to the powders because pills started to become a problem.

Help! 200 miles from home and no food

Thank YOU for passing that on. When you are used to seeing such a difference between these huge farm building never see the light birds and the pasture where my birds are raised, you really go what is going on here? Both turkeys, both chickens and they do NOT look alike. I mean rabbits are rabbits but the chickens look different, act different and the eggs are QUITE different.

Help! 200 miles from home and no food

I dont know either. The fact remains that I've developed food problems after the surgery that I never had before. Its actually a good thing to talk about different diets. We need to get in good nutrition. If we don't look at what we're eating, how much, when we need good nutrition, that's a problem. I did look this up and came up with the following. I believe you are right in that there are no hormones, but there are a number of other items (antibiotics, etc.) that are in the meat or the conditions such that make a more likely ground for problems to enter the food supply. You are right, I get the bird I do because its fed differently, raised in a very different atmosphere, and is doggone tasty because it gets plucked, the feet and head lopped off and given to me. I have enough problems eating without adding to it. Anyway - you are right on the hormones, its the other things I have some reservations about also. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsis/topics/food-safety-education/get-answers/food-safety-fact-sheets/food-labeling/meat-and-poultry-labeling-terms/meat-and-poultry-labeling-terms/ http://www.meatpoultrynutrition.org/ht/d/Faqs/pid/26093 http://www.prevention.com/food/cook/how-choose-best-thanksgiving-turkey https://drrobinsmusings.wordpress.com/category/hormones-in-meat/ http://www.shadybrookfarms.com/FaqGeneral.aspx http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/31/hormones-in-food-should-y_n_815385.html http://www.yale.edu/agrarianstudies/colloqpapers/05langston.pdf http://healthychild.org/easy-steps/keep-hormones-and-antibiotics-off-the-menu/ http://articles.latimes.com/2008/nov/24/health/he-turkeyhormone24
  15. You ARE normal ... you have extra weight.
  16. No, expensive is figuring size 8 is what you were in college and when you got to size 8, you spent a big chunk of money on clothes. Only to go smaller to the point that the size 8's you can't wear any more.
  17. Dont be too sure on the clothes store deal. You have to buy tons of things new. Very expensive.

Since when is turkey hormone free? They can't breed any more naturally, from what I understand, because they've been given so much and bred to points where they're not natural. The turkey I get from a farm where they're raised on Pasture (http://www.fullquiverfarm.com/) sure does NOT look what I have seen or heard about. The taste is totally different.

First day at the gym and I passed out!

Great but what did the doc say? LOL ... I just want to make sure you know there are no lasting issues.
  21. I was on 8 months of supplementation before I said forget the PCP and went to a hematologist. Best thing I did. If you don't get things up with pills, after several months, its time to head to the specialist. It took 5 rounds of IV Iron, AND a B1 shot, AND a B12 shot before mine finally started to come up. Several months passed before that happened. In other words, waiting and waiting and waiting just doesn't cut it. What are they waiting for, Christmas? The other issue is that anemia is an issue for malnutrition. It could be they are treating the wrong thing. B12 is needed for your blood. Folate is. Pernicious anemia is not a joke. Zinc, copper, are those getting checked? Um ... your Calcium levels? Are those your ionized or serum/blood calcium and has a urine 24 hour calcium been done and what are the results? Have you had dexa scans? Have they figured out why you have pedal edema?

Help! 200 miles from home and no food

What kind of food did you bring with you? Can you buy that where you are at? I'm sure at 5 weeks out, you shouldn't be eating any Pasta or bread or anything like that. What fresh fruit and veggies and lean Proteins that aren't fried or anything can you get at?

questions for my plant based friends

In answer to your questions: No. I told the surgeon and others that I had problems with processed food, because salad and veggies don't give my GI track the misery other things do. I can eat 2-3 bites and then stop. Drinking is another story. Weight loss: you can't go by me as I blew thru weight like there was no tomorrow. Some of that was the fact I got in an Olympic swim competition after surgery and took on the men's won-every-race-in-history guy. LOL. I focus a LOT more on Protein sources. I do eat turkey or chicken as much as I can but the amount of meat I eat is more on the range of 30+, I get the rest from veggies and vegan/vegetarian protein packets. I have to be careful as chicken sometimes can be problematic ... that's why for the most part people consider me vegetarian/vegan.
