Good Lord yes. I have the worst luck. I've had problems. I would still tell people to go get the surgery. I had GI issues before and one of them didn't go away and maybe caused the other problems. I would still say get the surgery. Holy cow ... come on people, we have greater risks of dying from obesity related diseases, a worse quality of life then if we get the surgery, including issues. You see about a handful of us who really have problems. What are you willing to risk? Shorter life and lower quality or taking a chance that a boatload of others do and be healthier and enjoy life better?

Girlfriend listen to me: Your money is the SAME size and color as those skinny people. You know how they got skinny and stay that way? By not caring what some other person with a hangup has and getting in there and working it! You will have role models in front of you to keep motivated. I didn't care. I was in a gym for college age people. I got out there walking and then cheering on any one else larger. I then kept working it until I was down girlfriend ... do not under any circumstances, after you've come this far, let someone with a small mind interrupt your Quest to be healthier.

There is like a no fog for speedos. I've been using the Vanquisher 2.0's. Never had a problem. Did you get them fitted right? There is an anti fog solution that Speedo has.

Is it possible yes. Depends on several variables. Get the % for leak rates and then give them the percentages of death from staying obese. Depends on bougie size and when it was done, because things are safer now than they used to be. That should change their minds because the incidents of late leaks is less than that of dying of obesity. Better quality of life also.

Where can the moderately obese get this surgery
swimbikerun replied to pgn6228's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Did you check into the options? Have you based that on price or the quality of the surgeons and aftercare? -
The ones I've seen in wheat tend to only be slightly different nutritionally from the regular pasta. Compare the labels and see what you come up with.

Put the salad dressing on the side. I never get a salad without it.

Have you checked your BMI and insurance, etc? -
YAY! Same here. I swim in a UV pool so its not the same as a regular pool. I still use them. If you need the ear/nose plugs get them too. Wait ... forget the nose plugs. Get a decent cap and get a proper fitting suit. Yes, they're meant to be worn tight for a reason. You'll be fine. Everyone has them for a reason. It can become a real pain in the butt otherwise.

Sticking my nose in here, if you can't swim or never have, you can practice a few things. First of all getting your face in the Water. Holding your breath and breathing out under water and then coming up for air. Ya gotta get used to it. So you can hold off on lessons if you are willing to do some of the work first and then be ready to get in.

I keep trying to go the bottom and it doesn't work. My problem is mental in that ... I'm a swimmer not a diver. There's just the automatic roll arms kick legs mindset that I can't seem to overcome. The lifeguards were quite amused. Really swimming is the best sport. You get resistance training and aerobic training with no ripping up your joint. Ok ... I did have a shoulder issue once but swam thru it.

Um, here is something you want to ask because all indoor pools are heated: what are the temps of the Water? The rebuilt Olympic pool I was in for Zone Champs had 3 pools. That rebuilt Olympic one (and it was F A S T) which was regular temp for swimmers. The other warmup pool was about 7 degrees or so warmer than that. Maybe 10. Then they had a third pool for arthritis people and that puppy was like 100 or so. NO ONE got in that pool. Even the warmup pool kicked our cans at maybe 85-90.

I have a buddy who will drown because he's nothing but skin and bone. Women are more buoyant due to "natural floatation" devices. Shall we say?

#1 swimming is the best thing you can do. I had to relearn to swim. I swam lightly at 100 pounds overweight. 2 days before my 1 month check up I was cleared to swim. I had lost 27 pounds so my body position was completely off and I had to relearn how to swim. I lost the 100 pounds in something like 4 months or so because I swam like a banshee. It is the most excellent body workout and it is not stressful on the joints. Actually learning how to swim is going to take more out of you than swimming itself. You are going to have bad position in the Water at first, fighting against the water, so you'll actually do yourself a favor in burning off more calories and building up more muscle. Yes, the noodles and the like will hold you up. Take 2 if you need it. The belts should also.

Lots of places, try No meat Athlete, and a Google search for Protein and vegan or vegetarian will help you. Go to http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/311018-protein-sources/ on this forum and I listed at least 20 different ones, not to mention powders and drinks. Victoria

Have you tried the flatbread? Otherwise, yes, you eat the stuff off or get the salad with dressing on the side. That's what i do.

If you don't take protein shakes/ bars
swimbikerun replied to crazyweight's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Great post. As an FYI: Vega, Sun Warrior, Plant fusion, Raw Protein, Lifetimes Life Basics is also pretty cheap. Also see http://www.nomeatathlete.com/vegetarian-protein/. Btw, I sprinkle the powders in stuff. Doesn't have to be the pre mixed shake. I can't handle them either. -
Great one! Glad to see things are working out for you.

If you don't take protein shakes/ bars
swimbikerun replied to crazyweight's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
After you are out of the recovery phase see http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/basics/protein.html. I have not seen where in the medical research it requires that someone needs a higher level than any one else. Or even justifying the 60 grams. -
plant-based powder - not enough protein?
swimbikerun replied to Tootles1975's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Vega has 25 grams of Protein in the performance ones. http://vegasport.com/product/performance-protein/ I agree with the above. Just buy a few of everything and see what fits. -

Love Vega. They have a Performance dark blue packet you might want to look at. Not the regular stuff. -
I think that the issue comes down to where we are committing ourselves in a very different way to this person than any other. The problem also comes in in that we're not allowed to know if it is a problem or becomes one. Look at Christopher Duntsch. It happened once and then happened again. The problem is that we don't know if this was an isolated event or not. Whether or not it might happen again or is part of the pattern. That's where I can understand the response of people going ... I need to move on. In medicine, especially in surgery, cardiology, oncology, its a bigger issue in not just what happened but how the doctor responds to that. If he or she responds maturely to it, I'd say ok. If not, that's where you have to wonder. The same is true for us, but there is a difference between my friend who maybe is a secretary or stocker at Walmart compared to a surgeon or cardiologist.
