Um do you have any nerve tics or problems? Calcium running that high, are they sure it is just the parathyroids without doing any other checks. I'm wondering how you are managing as I'm running upper nines and its a mess.

Hi, Very sorry to hear of your problems. What sort of follow up have you been getting? You are 2 years out and were more than 1 year out at first complication. What sorts of tests were done by what docs? If you are more descriptive we could maybe help more unless you just need to vent. In that case, go for it.

A urine calcium w/the I calcium is going to give you a good idea of where that extra calcium is coming from.

Struggles with Living Away From Home
swimbikerun replied to Bea Amaya's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
This might be bad, but don't they have goat meat and the like there? I think the biggest problem is that the Mid East has worse obesity rates than we do. The culprits: fast food and lack of exercise. Speaking of which, is it possible to *WALK* during the day? If it is as hot as I hear, you could lose weight from short walks (no running, etc.) just simple walks. -
@@Kindle hey thanks for asking. No, PCP was out sick. I'm like let her stay out sick. She's not infecting us. hee hee hee Which calcium level? blood, icalcium or have they done a urine 24 analysis? That's the way you are going to find out what is going on.

Seeking Health is one of the few with methylfolate and methylcobalamin. Those are the only ones recommended by the heme/oncologist I have. This is not bariatric, this is the only one that my MD/PhD recommended and I sat for 1x for 5 weeks with his chemo patients since I had to get IV Iron. Only one was rail thin. The rest were healthy looking and dang sure weren't no 20-30 years old.

@@Brian Green Hi Brian, what kind of get together are you thinking of? The only offshoot I know of, was all controlled by one of the surgery groups, not one for everyone from all groups where we weren't judged based on the group we had surgery with. -

I am very sorry over what happened for you. The office should have helped you with that. -
It is, but holy cow I've had some really close responses with the sleeve. My system is very very unpredictable. My surgeon indicated no one did with the sleeve. Guess what? Later they started saying in a few rsearch articles that it happens. I'm like oh yes it does! The memory of holding on to the fridge and being on the kitchen floor, the first time, I won't forget that one.

It isn't a matter of IF you are going to make a mistake, it is WHEN. We all do it. Please don't beat yourself up. These things happen. I AM quite glad nothing happened though. Phew! Just be glad. Dumping experiences I would wish on no one.

@ Mine also got high but on NO supplement. Suggest you have that followed as that *can* remotely be a sign of a blood cancer. As long as it goes down while off, good but otherwise ... I remember this because when mine was high, my doc at the time ignored it. Yes, the chance is remote but cancer of the skin, brain, kidney, prostate, spleen/pancreas, with masses of unknown origin and the like has been found in my family.

Need advice for transitioning from weight loss to maintenance
swimbikerun replied to Rogofulm's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You can add in more veggies. That's the only thing. 90% protein is a bit too much. -
Curious -- could you have done it without Weight Loss Surgery?
swimbikerun replied to Vikingsfan8178's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nope, studies have shown, forget it, the only way it gets off and stays off is with wls. Yeah, you won't miss it. Do you want 80% of stomach gone and your life back, doing all sorts of things that you didn't before, feel healthier, better, or do you want 80% of a gut? Does 80% of your gut matter to you compared to your life after? Or RNY, doesn't matter. -

I haven't noticed it when I've gotten it either.

Chicago - Pre Op - Need a Mentor ASAP
swimbikerun replied to africanviolet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
After the "care" I got in certain circumstances, I started to rock the boat. I wasn't getting better. I was just getting worse. When you hospitalize someone for malnutrition because "you are going to die" well maybe you should have taken out the gallbladder causing me pain so I didn't eat! WOW! Is that so hard to figure out or understand? Its garbage that like that sometimes you have to say hey. The option is to go back and find out is she for sure holding it up. If she is, I'd go for it because you have nothing to lose and by putting it IN WRITING you have shown that she has a reason to retaliate if she becomes a problem. Respect is earned. Not bestowed. A graduate degree, so what, lots of people have grad degrees. It doesn't make them God. I dang sure want to hear how "mommy issues" affect surgery. I dang sure want to know why and what proof she has it will interfere with surgery and the basis for that decision. In writing. -

swimbikerun replied to africanviolet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@africanviolet, maybe the reason I understand so very well is my surgeon had left MUTLIPLE notes about my pain and didn't operate. Like 8 months later, he had it in the medical record: "today she asked me why would I let her be in pain for so long". So ... very very different bent on the subject. -

I like to ask questions, which usually tends to get them mad but flushes out their biases and thinking, is asking how and why does this need to be taken care of before surgery and can you move it will make a difference in the long run by studies already done? Are you studying something like this or considering a paper? How many other surgeries have you stopped and what was the success rate of your treatment. When they are just "winging" it, you will know by the answers. That is one of the ways I could catch the doc I had. Some things just didn't add up. No offense to him but when its my butt and you are slamming me in the medical records, you better have a DOGGONE GOOD reason. @@swimbikerun - Thank you. My thinking exactly. :-( -

I would put my concerns in writing to the psychologist. The other doctor you are working with? Can she sign off on the paperwork? I would think so. Otherwise I want it all in writing and why. I can't see why "late night snacking" would make a difference, I think the vast majority of us have that. If so, it may be cured once you can't eat any more. I do think that sounds fishy. I mean "mommy issues". Can she clarify where in the medical literature this is an issue? I can't see that, nor can I see how the late night snacking, which is a big deal to all, is an issue to hold up surgery. I would think that could be done after the surgery or even right now during. You have 1-2 months to work on it before surgery. Tend to agree with you. -
Protein does not equal meat. There are other ways of adding protein to the diet without meat. Count the protein you get in veggies also.

You can return the favor by getting as healthy as possible, whether that is physical or mental matters not to me!!

@@Alex Brecher I had an experience on another "support" area. Seems someone wanted to blame me for problems from the surgery, etc. and basically said I should shut up and get over it. I've seen it even worse on Obesity Help. Never have I seen that attitude on here. Thank you for allowing us to speak openly and honestly about our experiences, good and bad. I appreciate the support - everyone - and being able to support back. Good doctors need to feel that they'll get the kudos that they deserve and people take note of problems (and I have a great set now) so this is a better experience for everyone. Thanks again Alex for putting this forum up and expanding it into a safe and comfortable place for everyone.
