I would suggest using your tool, going back to basics. You do not describe your food/exercise habits. All I can suggest is to change what up what you are doing now and review the carb content in what you are eating. Include drinking with that.

Still Attend Support Group Meetings as a Vet?
swimbikerun replied to Andrew0929's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Excellent! The fact remains that I learn more online from all various surgeries, all various lifestyles, all different choices, thanks to people who don't stay within the confines of what the surgeon's office dictates. There seem to be many choices that work for lots of people. I can see up to a year but after that, we are only there for them to survey and make $$$ off of while they don't have the big ticket surgery to work on. Plus, they are only using us as lab rats for the ASMBS's databases. Here you answer to no one and people can touch you and you be touched a lot more freely. -
Still Attend Support Group Meetings as a Vet?
swimbikerun replied to Andrew0929's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Most groups run by surgeons' simply aren't on the wavelength that the online groups are. There are more options you can learn from others, more wide range of experiences that can keep you fresh with new people and up with farther out people. Hands down, once you are past the honeymoon year/year & a half, online is the way to go. Most of the places don't want you telling newbies about regain, how hard it is after that time frame. -
You aren't, we all have to work at it after the honeymoon period. Just like a marriage, it takes a lot of work.

It's OK to get stoned, but not to lose weight.

Well, I've been posting at times URL's from educational sources about how bariatric surgery helps. I'd send them to a ton of them if we had that, to show it is worth the $$$. -
Still Attend Support Group Meetings as a Vet?
swimbikerun replied to Andrew0929's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
That's what I see. You have a vet or two, but otherwise, its a newby thing. There is no true support outside of online forums, that are really useful after a year. Not being disrespectful but, heaven forbid they show the true meaning of people more than a year out. Some people would be thrown off, and maybe they should be. -
Starting out at age 45? How common?

@Goatfarmer You guys ROCK! There is NO excuse not to get healthy at ANY age. Yeah! Love seeing people who "break the mold" and defy the conventions. -

Payment rant: especially for those self pay/Mexico
swimbikerun posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It boggles my mind that for all the people who go to Mexico, we could PAY for the surgeries at the waste that is in here. Just sickening. I'd go for people paying for the plane fare, but we could pay for the costs of surgeries, including plastic surgeries down there. That would take some punch out of "surgery mills" up here. Bet they would get their act together too, some of these ones are just money hungry here in the states. Jumping into it for the money. Really torks me. We could support good docs across the border, our own American people, and get them healthier. Any one else agree? I feel a better use of our dollars is giving that and say a limit on plastic surgery after bariatric surgery ($40K limit, must be 1 time for loose skin removal). http://www.realitybase.org/journal/2009/10/12/the-dysfunction-and-corruption-of-our-healthcare-system-its.html -
Payment rant: especially for those self pay/Mexico
swimbikerun replied to swimbikerun's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
With all the waste in medicine we could be paying for more people to have bariatric surgery, including those without insurance who have to go to Mexico because the prices out of pocket are too high in the USA. Shoot we could pay for their trips too. We could pay for some plastic surgery with all the waste in medicine. Makes me mad to know that people can't get surgery because of $$$. -

“The Biggest Loser:” Irresponsible Weight Loss Surgery Comments?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I've yet to figure out why it makes a difference. If they are curious about WLS, fine, ask someones' experiences. Otherwise, its like whether a kid is adopted or not. It doesn't matter. That child is still as much a child of his/her parents as if they were born physically of their parents. -
My cholesterol has jumped up by 30 points!
swimbikerun replied to Wynnie's topic in Food and Nutrition
2 things: 1) did your HDL go up? You need to have your HDL, LDL, trigs, and VLDL taken. My HDL was routinely in the 70-80's and early 90's before surgery. Now it is regularly over 100 and throws everything off. 2) HDL goes up for 2 reasons: 1 you have a genetic issue in terms of Japanese or anorexics get it. -

Why the crackers? That's the only thing I see. How much more Protein can you get in? I don't see any Protein drinks mentioned. Congrats on your surgery. -

Not only an excellent article but some great additions by people here. Why is it a judgement? Stars get plastic surgery done all the time. That's ok but people helping themselves get healthier isn't? -
I know an RNY'er who has done WW for years. I know she doesn't do carbs and is in the size 6 range. She follows the diet but it is very much modified to lean protein/fresh fruit & veggies.
-
I'm wondering ... did your surgical team tell you what they wanted you to do? Do they have a salad you can get? That would be better as everything you list is either carbs that aren't good for you or fatty meats (sausage & bacon). The sausage and bacon would at least be protein.

http://www.milk.co.uk/page.aspx Filtered milk goes through an extra, fine filtration system, which prevents souring bacteria from passing through. The nutritional content of the milk is unaffected but the shelf life is increased. The processes involved include, microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration. Microfiltration is the most commonly used process and is a pressure-activated separation process which uses a membrane that is permeable to substances with a low molecular weight but rejects material with a high molecular weight. In the process of microfiltration of skimmed milk, bacteria are removed using ceramic filters with 1.4 micrometer holes to separate the milk from the bacteria. After this process, virtually all the bacteria present in the milk are removed. The milk is then homogenised to standardise and evenly distribute the fat molecules, where it then undergoes the pasteurisation process before being chilled down quickly to 5ºC or less. Microfiltration adds an extra level of cleanness which can extend shelf life up to 45 days when stored at temperatures of up to 7ºC and an average 7 days once opened. Filtered milk is available in whole, semi skimmed or skimmed milk varieties. Supposedly this should be really good. Have to give it a shot. Thanks for mentioning it.

Feeling so despondent
swimbikerun replied to irisheyesrsmylng's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Dumb question but did your surgeon have you see a psychologist that knows about bariatrics? Maybe one who has experience with that could help you better? From what you are saying though, why didn't the surgeon provide this help to you? If there was a question on surgery, they should have been helping you if they gave you surgery. -
