@@LipstickLady I get the impression this is more directed to a person (me) rather than in general. That's what I'm talking about, is people in general. If people want to give or not give support based on how/what they communicate, that is up to person to do so. I'm fine with it as I have no right to force any one to respond or say they're wrong for making that judgment. People do it all the time. Pointing out that there are communication issues that, if resolved, would help get someone get better care, is a point probably worth listening to. That's really the bottom line of what started this.

Not being Alex Brecher, that should be a given. However, reviewing the posts, it appears there are a contingent of people who do feel that way. I've seen admins who talk about it in private. (General, as in I'm not saying where that has happened.) No, that's not an opinion. People are judged on how they present themselves. That's why so many have media consultants and those who present themselves in the public eye have publicists. Even on other forums the comments are made over and over how larger people, people who've had WLS, people who curse others out, Christians, Muslims, gays, everyone makes assumptions. I'd rather know and be able to deal with it, have a constructive conversation over it. The point is some people may not get help or get all the help they need because of the way their issue is framed. If changing the message delivery (or using spellcheck) will help that, I'm all for it. Again, you are only speaking for yourself, I assume, not the community at large. @@LipstickLady That was an explanation of fact of how the world is. You might disagree, others may or may not. It simply is a fact, nothing more and nothing less. Just like the judgment people get for being large, for having surgery, it is what it is. Whether I approve of the fact or not, doesn't matter. Nope. It's your OPINION. Sweeping generalizations do not equate to facts.

@@mrs kaje That's correct. However it does not mean that you will be taken seriously. Like it or not, out in the business world how you present yourself is going to make a difference. The same is true on any forum. When I have the choice to help several people, the one who can express themselves in a manner where I'm not having to interpret the post, that's who is getting the help first. Just as people (like admins) notice who is able to keep their cool in a problem issue, who appears to give sources that are reliable, it makes a difference. I didn't spell their/they're right in my post. My apologies.

With all due respect, wouldn't that be Obesity Help? I've heard a lot of negative things, and got the same treatment there. I'm not sorry to say about that place, because they earned the reputation. Seriously, we are all going to be judged no matter what you do. It can be by your boss, your family, who becomes your friends. The ability to write a complete sentence and appear to speak proper grammar is a necessity. If you go to a retail store or the 7-11, the ability to clearly communicate makes a difference. People don't want to go somewhere where someone can't make themselves understood. What it indicates is how you respect yourself and the culture of what you are saying to others. If you want someone else to volunteer their time to help you, most want that respected. How you approach that tells someone willing to help everything. If they have the choice between helping one person that they need to "decipher" what their saying, with everything else being equal, they would choose to not help that person who can't express themselves well. This is not always a moral judgment as much as it is the way things are. Group morals can be a good thing. Being overweight can be accepted but is it always good for us? Think about how many have said their health improved after getting WLS. The pressure to be something else (skinny) is a positive.

Reversal for gastric sleeve?

@@Gladys62 Very very happy for you! Congratulations! I also had Carafate and the like. Glad to know things are getting better. -
Always and forever. My understanding is that 1) it can stretch the pouch (whether or not that is true or not) and 2) the liquid will make the food run out of the stomach, causing you to feel less full.

They were shoving meat on us very soon after, tuna fish, etc.

Starting back to school. NERVOUS. Encouragement? Advice?
swimbikerun replied to une nouvelle vie's topic in The Lounge
@@une nouvelle vie stay FAR FAR FAR away from those who say you are too old or want to put obstacles in your way. It takes courage and guts to start later. Last thing you need is people who don't encourage learning because it should occur every day of our lives. No matter whether or not that is book learning, people learning, or practice skills. Here is one for everyone to chuckle over. My parents knew I was pretty smart. I knew book learning. I made A's in physics, spent my freshman summer year getting an extra year of math (and no keep the comments off line please). They would also say the girl does not have enough common sense to come out of the rain. They were sort of worried about me going to college. I did a whole lot of learning my first year or so. More so in the people/practice dept. than any other. Now I'm the one depended on. Its not just book learning that is important, so don't let younger people who may discount your life skills, experiences, as not being useful. It just means they don't know what true learning is all about. {{hugs}} and let us know when you graduate. -
Congratulations! Hope it goes well. Read on around. Maybe we can help you. Its normal to be nervous but you'll be happy with results.

Keep working out. Something is better than nothing. Building muscle is only going to help you, not hurt you.

Now to try to convince some surgeons of that. They stress protein but what they mean is meat. How do vegetarians and vegans stay alive and healthy, the ones I know are. They are obviously getting protein in.

Starting back to school. NERVOUS. Encouragement? Advice?
swimbikerun replied to une nouvelle vie's topic in The Lounge
@@une nouvelle vie My sister started out bits and here and there. She finally started getting down the wire with me going after my 2nd degree. It may have taken her 20 years, and she is in the same decade group you were when she finished. Our family would not sit with me at graduatin because I said I was going to whoop like it was the 2nd Coming for her. She is the eldest and helped out a lot, didn't hear her complain on it really, so she didn't get as much opportunity as others to go to college. So when the time came, I helped her with some classes because it meant a lot to me to see she got the degree. Yes, it was a 2 year but she conquered it. Please know that it doesn't matter the age. The ability to get back in the game and pick yourself up and start over takes courage that will serve you well. College requires a lot of personality changes that not everyone out of college can muster. Emotional intelligence has a lot to do with it. -
I can do some chicken and some turkey. The rest, vegetarian. I do Protein drinks & powders, but I can manage 1.5 out of 2 eggs at a time (1 boiled, 1.5 scrambled which I reheat later on). I also eat Beans, chickpeas, peas, things that are highly protein based. No nuts, but that might be an option for you. My last memories of fish and red meat (several types) are about as positive as my ones of nuts. Its like sodas, after a while, its like whatever & you don't care if you eat it or not.

Ouch! One, it probably has already hit her. You just can't see it and she's not being monitored. If she has osteoporosis I bet she has other issues behind the scenes. The body can make up for things but not forever. -
