Suggested DS? Really. Did they give reasons why? -
I'm looking for feedback on how your surgeon was chosen
swimbikerun replied to Familyte's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
One other thing: you want to see how they deal with adversity. Forget stats - they can fake stats. I had the biggest problems with the surgeon not recognizing thigns and not listening to me. How that whole situation and the since like has been handled speaks volumes. You don't want someone giving a lawyer to you insinuating they'll come after you for repeating what is in your records, what the surgeon is on record of saying, comparing it to laws, records, medical research, pointing out discrepancies. You also don't want them talking about you to people they just met off the street and saying what is in your medical records, especially when it is wrong. -

Insurance and being the closest. -
Hey thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated.

I bring veggies & protein. If I buy something, it is a flatbread type of sandwich w/lean protein & veggies. Occasionally soup.

I haven't. What are they like in terms of a taste? Where did you buy them?

New study about the long-term effectiveness of the sleeve
swimbikerun replied to Rogofulm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was using the band as an example of a restrictive only process. Yes they are very different procedures. I'm aware of them. I believe that there is a disconnect between what doctors do in terms of getting patients to realize that this is a tool vs. true belief in that this will be a struggle after the "honeymoon" period referred to above. That would include insurances paying for such things. It would encourage also addressing the problems in not having access to care if you want to move to another group that has better aftercare. The money is in the surgery. This has been out, well I put it out I should say. There was a fair amount of comment on it. Not a lot people can do. Its sort of known that this is restriction only and you can get by things like that (band). Vic This article is about the sleeve, not the lap band. Yes, they are both "restrictive" in a sense, but very different procedures. It is important to realize that the sleeve is not a cure for obesity. Instead, we all should focus on utilizing it as a tool for weight loss and improved general health. -

Well I think the bigger point is the diabetes effectiveness issue. If someone doesn't have it, maybe just insulin resistance, and being overweight, that does seem to make a bigger difference than having diabetes. The amount of weight too lose also. At least they're being honest. 50% is still better than nothing and if this is used for those who are prediabetic or just turned (believe it was 'how long someone had diabetes' was a factor) diabetic, maybe that is what needs to happen? At least if docs have that recommendation it is better for patient decisions. -

Um, its not on this forum. Alex created it and I have the big file to upload. I've got a slew of research from time gone by and am adding to it. -

File upload for Bariatric references
swimbikerun posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ok, I am going to be uploaded a file that has part (but not all) of the references I've collected over the years. First part is bariatric. Second part is going to be reasons why you need to doubly do your diligence on doctors, the office, and their philosophies. bariatric references.doc -

Christian sleevers any the just had...
swimbikerun replied to lachellove's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm still trying to digest that it isn't in God's plan for the surgery. The surgery is a tool, no different than someone who is handicapped would use a wheelchair or cane. Wow. Need to digest that one again. How do they know what God's plan is for your life? One can use what they learn to help out others, maybe lead someone to Christ. My church and I must have some different mindsets. -
Question can you please help me ?
swimbikerun replied to Jean A Enger's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Best to talk to your surgeon. They are the ones with ultimate control over whether or not you have surgery. -
Christian sleevers any the just had...
swimbikerun replied to lachellove's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the question is what type of spiritual support are you looking for? Another question: are you going to keep it positive only? The reason why I ask, some people say, since I've had issues, if I say here is what happened to me or try and ask people to do their "surgeon" or "office" research, that's negative. -

Not Getting Any Support...Options?

This doesn't surprise me. The money is in surgery. All you can do is call around and see who will treat you. -
Did he physically feel it?

Interesting article on protein + recipes!
swimbikerun replied to Thinside's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Thanks for that. -
Keep walking. Sadly until it gets out there isn't much else you can do but walk around and try to get it out. There might be other things people have tried but that might still be a problem. have you talked to your surgeon?

Really wanting to go Vegetarian (still eat eggs and cheese)
swimbikerun replied to CherokeeGirl's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I have always seen more problems with B12 for vegans (and some vegetarians) than I ever have with protein. That being said, the Indians I know are healthy and only one of them does extra B12. -
gastroparesis and gastric sleeve
swimbikerun replied to Lelly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sleeve is supposed to fix gastroparesis, but it doesn't for everyone. Some, like me, are worse off. It might depend on the original cause of the gastroparesis. If it is the muscle of the stomach, I could see it being cured. If it is the enteric nervous system, that would account for why some people are "cured" of GP and some aren't. I have someone who didn't get diagnosed or have any problems until after the surgery. Oh for a "hoot"? I went thru the records the first time I was diagnosed years ago. Another MD in the practice and the office manager said there is no record of me having GP. So I got the records and went thru them. Sure enough it mentions 'slow gastric emptying' in response to a timed test and some of the medications I was given, like metoclopramide, are what you give in gastroparesis. If you google slow gastric emptying, what comes up? Gastroparesis. An office manager I can see missing that, but NOT a GI who's been a GI for over 30 years.
