Any Real Research on Post Op Guidelines?

Hopefully it is. There is some talk regarding the sponsors of such research: Coke/Pepsi being one of them for the nutrition related info. -
Specific nutrients needed to sustain healthy life after surgery
swimbikerun replied to Dallas Powell's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
What is your food intake like? What is the composition of that? Your exercise regimen? That should determine what you need. The sleeve has no malapsorptive component (unless you get unlucky like me) and for RNY, I've seen 1 study that said at 2 years the intestines compensate for most of what was lost. -

Any Real Research on Post Op Guidelines?
swimbikerun replied to sbacoleman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some of it has no basis in science. Evidence based medicine, basically. The sleeve, it was pretty much that I saw the doctors taking 500 mg. of requirements off of what the RNY had. They still wanted a Multivitamin a day, but no one has ever addressed the study that said at 2 years out, they get more than enough calories in to sustain themselves. The surgery is where the money is at. They figured with 20% or more of people getting the surgery gaining a good amount of weight back, people will be ok. There are not tons and tons of people with problems, so it is more profitable to them to just ignore or dump the problems and the rest take care of themselves. -
Christian sleevers any the just had...
swimbikerun replied to lachellove's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a year long monitored diet before all the stuff. Most don't have that. I got through it. -
Best of luck!

Is the sleeve safe long term?
swimbikerun replied to Cutechiq10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try studies for those with stomach cancer. It was tried on them for decades before us. The DS people, they did the sleeve first, had them lose weight, and then would do the rest of the DS. That is also how they figured out about the sleeve. -
I agree a huge huge congrats!

There are other ways of getting Protein in the diet. I also had a surgeon who equated meat = protein. Higher rates of meat = higher rates of colon cancer. I believe (and need to check) there is only one article on the subject, but I'd wait to see because we all have higher risks of colon cancer because of faulty info from docs.

The only spare stuff I keep is for fixing things for others. I try to keep packaged/processed food out of the house. The only changes to that are herbs I don't grow. Otherwise, lots of fresh foods.

Vega. Sun Warrior. Tera's Whey might be. Do you have a Whole Foods nearby? Another health store? You can go there and check the labels out. -
What’s Your Worst Post-Op Memory (or Fear)?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The surgeon and his attitude. Too many things rank up there to count. -
I will do without. Everyone is different. Once I get home I can get something, so I'm not really doing without, I'm just moving it to a later time. I can pay for that as even liquids at night and my reflux, just do not work well together.

gastroparesis and gastric sleeve
swimbikerun replied to Lelly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is AWESOME to hear that you had it fixed. There are many (by at least one study) who are helped with the surgery. Great to hear and I hope it keeps on working for you. -

What does a leak feel like?
swimbikerun replied to Chellemetime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only thing I can do to help is go over what blood, urine, xray/US/CT/MRI's have been done for me. Sometimes you develop things and I had problems before the surgery. I know of someone who developed GP after the surgery. Things happen. All we can do is test until we know what we know and what we don't know. I'm sorry that's not a feel good answer. -

I still have gastroparesis, I developed reflux and IBS after. I have food intolerances to many things. That is the current list I can think of GI tract wise. What I've said to you is what I've had tested (that and more). -

Did he do just TSH or did he include T4, T3, free T ... Did they do any tests for celiac, a sed rate, stool analysis? Has an allergist tested you for food *intolerances*? I have those big time. Not technically allergic, but give me something and I get diarrhea or pain, etc. The IBSchek test? Just came out in May. Did they go through the Rome III criteria? Basically they do stuff to rule things out. It sounds like they did a quick type of test but didn't get do anything thorough. Its more like what they call a trash can dx. They didn't find anything easy and just went for the most appropriate item. -

What type of blood work? CMP, BMP, did you do a food diary for the GI doc? Did they do a pill scan of your GI tract? An EGD is a camera down the throat, like the colonoscopy is up the other end. -

You didn't say what blood work had been done, nor if an EGD had been done. What about an allergist for food allergies? -
