Surgeons don't always have the best plan
swimbikerun replied to heychelle912's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They can do that to get out of what they did. It could also be a regular mistake. The problem is where they don't take this stuff seriously. Having had my stuff put out there not by my choice nor was it correct, I can feel for you. -

Surgeons don't always have the best plan
swimbikerun replied to heychelle912's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@heychelle912 When was your surgery? Here is the problem, you can't get a lot of Protein in at first, when your body needs it. Your hair can fall out, no matter what you eat or how much or what else. Once you are out for a year or so, there is not one doctor who can prove to me you need the same amount of protein or more than regular people. There is not a lick of science they have to prove you need more than the regular person because people already get more than enough. For RNY'ers, I can see a slight bit, but there are studies showing the intestines "relearn" to make up for a lot of things. Proven in studies. Sleeves (unless you are like me & even then there are caveats), where is the scientific proof? These guys make not one whit of distinction between right after surgery and the first 6-9 months or so, compared to farther out. Defies logic & common sense. They haven't also answered questions as to us having a higher than normal colon cancer risk because of all the meat they want to eat. Notice it is meat, not protein, where the emphasis is. -

Surgeons don't always have the best plan

+9999 On top of that, my PCP runs more complete labs. The nutritionist I had, well I showed them maybe they were a bit "confused"? They got upset at all the information I was asking but they knew I had stomach issues before the surgery. GI's dont have a clue about followup and I had another person tell me a former GI I went to was useless about the condition. The dieticians are like, we do diabetics. After care is a crazy, and they wonder why there is regain so much. -
Surgeons don't always have the best plan

I am so sorry. I wish you the best. I'm putting out information so people can take charge of their health and to warn them about doctors. I also had a problem surgeon. If you do fine, everything is great. However, there are dichotomy's about those who didn't have a good experience, don't have "easy" and "pay well" insurances, etc. The problem in my area is there are apparently legal agreements to not take someone elses' patients after the surgery, possibly in a program (I don't know). You'd have to travel far to get away from them, way too far for it to be practical. I hope you don't have this problem. -
Thanks me too! I hope you get to be back soon!

Check out Dan Bernandi I think is his name? He got into triathlons and the like once he got the bypass. I swear I'm still figuring out how that dude can get down that many calories unless he's doing major drinking.

Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss
swimbikerun replied to Kindle's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I want to know why is it that when I am now in non plus size clothes, I only see clothes I want to wear in plus sizes. Or bigger sizes than what I would fit in. -
What’s Your Attitude Towards Carbs?
swimbikerun replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I have no problem with carbs in the form of fruit or Beans, etc. I do when it is not something I can justify in terms of getting other nutrients. A banana is still a better thing than chocolate. A carrot is better than a piece of bread. I don't see them as good or bad just which is the healthier choice I can make overall? -

I'm so sorry about what happened to you. I am hoping that they are watching you carefully and are explaining everything to you so that you can help make choices to get you back on the road to health. -
Cholesterol, dang why is this so complicated?
swimbikerun replied to OKCPirate's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think one other item to know is that to make sure you get a full cholesterol panel. Knowing the HDL and LDL is important, and if you can get the VLDL or the ratio, even better. Heredity is not always on the mark. My father had heart problems, died of them. One sister, after losing 35+ pounds in a couple of years & keeping it off, went from HDL's in the 40's to the 20's. When M.O. my HDL was in the 70's-90's. Normal weight, its well over 100. -
Do you have a running club in the area? They would be a great bet.

My fault. Steel cut is different. My rabbits love it too.

I want to ask people why they can't spend their time making the world a better place than telling secrets. If we spent time helping homeless, aged, minorities, volunteer groups, we'd be so busy we wouldn't be in others' business. The other option is to make sure you aren't the one listening. I shut off gossip pretty much quickly when I first got to my work place. I let things come out when they come out. A lot happier for it and my coworkers don't gossip to me either.

Gastric Leak for 6 Months - Help!
swimbikerun replied to Greta Griggs Hannah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm very concerned that at 6 months, well this is a bit way too long for my tastes. Nothing official but why did they wait this long? -
{{hugs}} and agree on teh drinking water.
-
I would confront them in front of others asking where you gave them permission to make private things public and what are they hoping to accomplish? It should not matter to any one why you aren't eating. Seriously ... I know so many people with food "differences" I don't ask why I just ask if they have any special needs, accomodate and move on. The impression I have with some is they do want to use it to payback, get back, have control over, act like they are better because they know a secret. If so, let their shortcomings be exposed and when they've gotten some sting, maybe they can learn to treat others with some kindness, mercy and respect. At least WLS gets rid of PHYSICAL problems, HEART/SOUL problems like that aren't as easily solved.

My insurance requires a 6-month physician supervised diet?!? :(
swimbikerun replied to piemonade's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mine was one year of a supervised diet and I had to pay for it by month. Could be worse ... they do that to basically discourage people because all the items I've seen are 6 months. -
Things a Vegetarian should know before getting the sleeve?
swimbikerun replied to nolongerhere's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Are you eating any fruit? Mine would go into the 50's and stayed in teh late 60's to early 70's sometimes. -
No a banana isn't but neither are berries (fruit), of which you can eat too much of and still get sugar. Both are still better choices all the way around for the quality of nutrition than other items like a McDonalds' hamburger or the sugar filled Cereal many eat. That's why I compared a veggie flatbread pizza with a meat lovers pizza. Pizza isn't the best for you, but if you are going to eat it, make it better. Oatmeal isn't the greatest, but it has Fiber, potassium, Protein, more so than a sugary cereal or a McDonalds' Breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Its relative. The other item is how far out you are, people are going to eat less particular. The idea is to give them more choices vs. more processed foods (although oatmeal fits in that category).

@@Chrystee Oatmeal has other benefits, as does the banana. Its eating that vs. a bowl of Cheerios that is the issue. Most people I don't think have been introduced to making a healthy pizza at 400 some calories vs. 2000 for a heart attack special.

These protein shots aren't collagen are they?

Or you have people who just take whatever vs. a sound answer. I've had that. I had people say I know nothing with pages of medical research to back up what I said. The research conflicted with their beliefs. Sort of the same story with my surgeon.
