Same boring message, Are you getting enough Protein and fluids in? I weaken a lot when I sleep for a lot of hours and haven't had anything for 8 or more hours. It takes me some hours of getting fluids back in me to stabilize again daily. It is a sort of chore each morning to get some energy again. I am almost 3 weeks post op and have til the 19th of July til I go to puree stage. I am losing a lot daily so the trade off is worth the difficulty. Maybe getting more protein and fluids could help?

Preparing after surgery advise
liteNsun replied to bigmama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have a lot of prepared meals, frozen. To pop in the oven, microwave. It is not fun to prepare food when you are not eating after surgery. Do a lot of grocery shopping right before and have all YOUR supplies at home so you are not doing store runs and no carrying of heavy groceries for some weeks after. The two things I wish I had were ear plugs cuz it was way too noisy in the hospital, and I wish I had my own slippers. I am almost 3 weeks out post op and I am doing slow and study. Some days I am tired and weak and need to just take care of me. Be sure to do no heavy lifting of children or laundry for some weeks also. Best of luck to you. -
My doc said insurance companies protocol is "denial of care". That is their approach to patients. It does seem to be the standard instead of patient need or preventative care.

Terrified that Surgery willl be cancled

Stick to it. Also take a fiber capsule or stool softener. Maybe that will make a difference. Good luck. -
I hate my pre op diet!
liteNsun replied to softballmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I have a different take on this pre op diet. I think it is to show that you are dedicated to following what is required to actually lose weight and follow a regime that will bring you success. Insurances are investing in you and you must have a great investment in this as well. I did NOT have a pre op diet because I was self pay. I paid 18,000 dollars for my surgery in Orange Co. Calif. It was my hard earned dollars. I would of done a pre op diet if insurance would of paid, happily. I had no obvious need for the surgery...yet for insurance to pay and I did not want to get worse myself. So, consider it a trade off for an investment that is offered to you. -
has any one else not had success ? :(
liteNsun replied to cmt49829's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Remember for addiction, "One is too many, a thousand is not enough". I think support groups are very helpful to connect with others who struggle daily. We all are going through our personnel struggles to get this right. You are just like us. That's why we are here now. -
TODAY IS MY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
liteNsun replied to dar1983's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My twin had WLS over a decade ago, and hadn't lost all her necessary weight. She went with me for my consult for VGS. Our doc put her back on the shakes to get her back on track and to take her vitamins. She is doing well on it. Slow movement but going back to a starting point of substituting some meals with shakes was needed. Check with your doc and see what will get you back to the place you want to get to perhaps. -
I have consistent bad breath and am going through Ketosis, but I also know it is a product of the rapid weight loss. I am two weeks post op. I do the liquids with out problems but I also eat liquid soup and add salt, and FOR ME this helps so much. It creates some sort of metabolism balance. I do what is needed and know my body is responding to it appropriately. Do wish the bad breath would stop for my fiance's sake, lol. I brush a lot and gum and anything, but it is a trade off for now.

I say be a polite nag and stay on top of your case. Call to make sure things are done ahead of time. I had to remind and prompt the girls on my paperwork. I am self pay and I moved things quickly, but I had to make sure they did everything, a check list, to be sure that there would be no delays. Don't wait for them to "get back to you", if someone doesn't call to prompt you for the next needed thing, call and find out what it is.

You will fill weak for awhile, I thought I would stay that way since I could not get more liquids down. But I got stronger despite the liquid intake. I feel much better two weeks out and I am always cautious to keep fluids going so I don't end up in the hospital in the emergency room for dehydration. Good luck to you. Keep reading the forum for hints as I did. I learn daily how to manage new symptoms and challenges I had daily.

I applaud you for finding a way to support your wife there at the hospital, to take care of yourself there while she takes care of herself. I have stairs at my condo and an elevator. I take the elevator always, but maybe need to do some stairs now to get my strength built up as I am 2 weeks post op and the weight is coming off quick....No weight loss number till my weigh in on the 11th.

One other thing to keep in mind is that if one has minimal coping skills you could pick up a different addiction other than food to deal with your emotions. I know others who lost weight after surgery and turned to drinking or shopping addictions. Be very cautious with HOW you vent your emotions. Feel the emotions and peel back the layers head on, usually fear is below all of it. That is a normal emotion. The sooner you get to facing your emotions the sooner you will have a healthy perspective to move on from this or any challenges.

5 Months and 94 pounds down (caution, underwear pic)
liteNsun replied to mom2five's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You even look younger and it looks great on you. Excellent work! -
I bought a 4 dollar pill crusher at walmart. It looked like it was might be junky, but it actually works great. I throw the crushed vitamins in my shake. Taste is not a priority anymore for me. I just do what I need to to get healthy and stay healthy.

after being married 20 years and divorced, I was scared to date or never was good at flirting. I got practice meeting guys on plenty of fish, free dating site. Met some nice guys there. Got confidence in dating numerous times and had fun. Now I am engaged and together for almost 3 yrs. Met him on that site. This is just a route to explore possibly.

Has anyone not lost anything during the 6 months before surg?
liteNsun replied to adargie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not lose weight, or try. I think I even gained a pound since my pre op visit...not trying to eat more. I ate normal until 12 hrs. before surgery. I had no other health issues with my weight problem. Low BP. Healthy otherwise. I was self pay and had no requirements or problems for surgery or after. But I follow all rules now that I am post op. But would of surely followed all requirements if insur. would of paid. I am 5 days post op. -
I do wake up in the morning weak due to no intake of fluids/protein all night. It takes me hours and sometimes more sleep to to come around in the morning and forcing fluids. The weight is dropping swiftly if feels but how do I handle that 8 hrs of no intake and feel like I can get going in the morning. I get in my vitamins daily also. Thanks for any suggestions. I am 5 days post op also.

Just a cost comparison. I had it done in Orange Co. Calif. and paid 18000.00 cash.(ugghh!) out of my own pocket. Doc parcticed 22yrs. and he had created innovations he designed in sleeve procedure to avoid any reflux. The procedure and post op have been flawless. I have no issues. I am 5 days out.

Surgery tomorrow....
liteNsun replied to TeacherTeacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Luck Lisa, I had mine 4 days ago, and I am so thrilled that I am not tethered to my weight problem as I knew it. My hardest part of my surgical experience was the chatty room mates they gave me post op. Everything else went exactly as they told me it would, recovery too! All My Best -
6 days postop and feel terrible
liteNsun replied to shrinkingmonk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know that anyone of us can say what is normal for you but your doc. But Your Body has just been through so much and a whole lot of changes are going on. I had a great recovery (not bragging) but I was weak still. I had mine last wed. BE Patient. I have had many other types of surgeries in my past and I have had those issues of draining and diahrrea. It slowly stopped. And I got stronger. I hope you do as well. -
Go to a fabric store and get button extenders. They will help you get some time on your pants. Maybe that could help. They also have 'em for bras if need be.

Lovenox shot questions....
liteNsun replied to megansmommy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got heparin IV during procedure and for the day after, continuous flow. No ongoing shots. Just another way it may be done, so not to worry all. -
I lined up everything quickly for surgery, but used this site constantly for all my Q n A, support, expectations for pre-op. I thought I would be done. My stomach may now be fixed but I find I need the continued support to "do the right things" to fix my head. I will need to stay on this often for a while I see now.
