  2. So today I say my doctor and had my first official weigh in.................I am down 17 pounds and this includes the pre op liquid diet. I was hoping for 20 pounds but I am very happy with the 17. I have lost about 10 inches as well all around. The clothes are fitting looser and I can now sit comfortably indian style. This I love!! He also gave me the all clear to start eating soft foods and adding more regular foods one at a time. I had some vegetables at lunch (soft) and it was wonderful!! I am so happy with my new life. I laugh at that first night worry, you know the one........What the hell did I do!!! I get to start swimming now and have already been going to the gym doing the recumbent bike but now I can get in the pool!! I am working at learning new recipes and food combinations that will be fulfilling. Life is good!!

    10 days post-op

Some people track and some do not. I chose to track because I want to learn foods and their values. This will allow me to train myself correctly and when I am eating more later on I will be able to eat more food with knowledgeable variations and still stay within the caloric guidelines my doctor has given me. I think the more knowledge you have the stronger you will be. I am trying to rethink and change my eating habits so this is definitely the time to do it.

    Average cost for self-pay

I paid 10,500 with Dr. Shillingford in Boca Raton. This is all inclusive labs, xrays, hospital stay, surgery, cardio work up etc.. He is an excellent surgeon and his office staff is fantastic.

  9. I am sitting in my chair reflecting over my time in the hospital and I couldn't believe how many times I was woke up just so they could stick me for some reason! LOL I lost count of the heprin shots in the stomach, the finger sticks were countless, I am sure their is a vampire on staff at the hospital for the number of tubes of blood they took and the frequency of their visits, and I got a lot of shots in the arm that in my drowsy state I don't even know what they were! I am 11 days post op now and family and friends are still laughing (with me)at the bruises all over my arms! All in all though the hospital staff was wonderful and I am happy to be home and feeling pretty normal. Now is only these stitches were out!!
  10. Good luck tomorrow! I hope you have a successful and a positive recovery!! Keep us posted.

    Is this normal? HELP!

You are definitely going through the same thing we have all been through. The liquid diet serves 2 purposes. One to shrink the liver and 2 to make you realize your food dependencies before the surgery. It is the toughest of the 2 purposes. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to eat food. I will even admit to chewing and spitting out!! I had to do the 2 weeks of liquids and every 3rd or 4th day I would have a small lean piece of meat with some steamed vegetables or tomato slices. This helped me get through the pre op. After the surgery your hunger goes away. I have not had a moment of hunger since the surgery. BUT I have had food cravings that drove me crazy!!! I am now on day 10 post op and it is getting easier. I too have been combing through recipes and websites for foods that I can have soon. I have been keeping up with my protein and close to the liquid amounts and have had a few soft food items that would be gentle. It will be okay......you can do this. The best thing you can do is start looking for other avenues to take your focus off food. That is why you go through this before the surgery. You are prepared for it after the surgery and your recovery will go smoother. Just think of that weight and inches coming off!! I always tell everyone to try Premier protein shakes and Sam's and Costco. Also go to www.mybariatricpantry.com and they have sample packs you can try I would suggest the Syntax Nectar and their mint cookie protein powder........that stuff is good!! Best of luck and remember we are here to help you when you are down!!

Hunger disappeared for me. I have not had any hunger pains since June 7 my surgery date. However, I have had strong desires to eat foods that I know I can't eat. It is getting easier each day. But hungry.......no. Keep up the good fight it is worth it!! Good luck to you.

Gluten free, sugar free, fat free OH MY!

Why can't you have a sea scallop that day? I have been doing the same thing and basically my doctor told me my percentages of fat and carbs to the amount of calories I can have in a day. I am going to work off of that, stay within the perimeters but enjoy the food. I will use low fat when I can and substitute if possible. But I will enjoy my food and stay within the calories.
