  1. No. I am home and 10 days post op. I hate to sound cheesey.... but I feel great! My energy is coming back slowly but surely and I am down 35lbs total. ( I started a high Protein low carb diet one week before pre op officially started.)

Dr. Ortiz and his staff are amazing! I am so happy made the choice of surgery and most of all with Dr. Ortiz. I had very little pain and no nausea at all... I think my quick recovery is a testament to the doctor. My worst symtom after surgery was jusy being sleepy... I felt like I could sleep for days.

Today, my biggest problem is protein. I have always been a big drinker, so getting plenty of fluids isn't a problem. I struggle to get 30-40 grams a day. If I have a shake in the morning.... I am stuffed all day!

If you are thinking of Dr. Ortiz & OCC, and have any questions about the trip, clinic, surgery, etc... please feel free to ask!

I wish eveyone the very best & loads of weight loss! :)

  2. Thanks JulieJ' date=' congratulations! I hope you are feeling well. In my past surgical experience, I don't always have a good time with the anesthetic and that's my biggest concern here for this surgery. Reading this site and particularly those who had Dr Ortiz, it is mostly favorable and positive but many don't seem to recall ever meeting him so it makes me pause. I might be being silly, and he's certainly less expensive than Dr Acevez, but I'm nervous.[/quote']

Dr. Ortiz sat and had coffee with my husband and I before surgery. He also stopped in after surgery to chat with my husband. :)

  3. The only thing that worries me about Dr Ortiz is that from what I've read' date=' it seems you spend just 1 night in the hospital and 2 in the hotel. It is why I'm leaning towards Dr Acevez since with him you spend 3 nights in the hospital.[/quote']

You spend one night in the clinic. They release you as long as you are sipping Water, and able to walk and not in pain.

I just had my surgery on the 1st of July with Dr. Ortiz and my experience was fantastic!

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

  4. Now that it's been confirmed that insurance will not be paying for my surgery....can anyone who has used Dr Ariel Ortiz tell me what their process was like?

My surgery is Monday 7/1 with Dr. Ortiz. So far the process has been very smooth. They have all been quick to respond to all my questions and needs. Lori is very friendly and helpful.

  5. I just found out I have to get up at 2:30 AM Sunday morning to make my flight. Ugh! The airport van said a bunch of people have missed their flights recently because of security so we have to leave home really early.

It's good to hear people have had good experiences at OCC.< /p>

Oh no!!! Where are you flying from?

We don't arrive in San Diego until 6:15pm.

  6. i am also being sleeved by him on july 1st! im so glad i found someone else that will be there

at the same time. how is yout preop diet going?

Pre-op has had it's moments. The first three days I was really sick with a sinus infection... so I stayed in bed. But, lately it's not too bad. Just trying to keep my self busy so I don't think to much about it. :)

How are y'all doing? Ready for Monday? Are you all flying in Sunday evening?

  7. Does anyone have any experience with MX doctors or their hospitals that have been recognized by the Surgical Review Corporation under the Center of Excellence program? I have notice a couple of doctors who have either stated that they had been approved as a Center of Excellence or as a Surgeon of Excellence or even display the CMCOEM logo' date=' yet when you go to SRC website, they are not listed as such.[/quote']

Dr. Ortiz & Obesity Control Center is listed as a center of excellence.

  8. Dr. Ortiz did my surgery in February....you can read all about it on my blog...www.hoosierfatty.wordpress.com

Knowing all I know today' date=' I would go back in a heart beat. Although, I was only one night at his facility, I felt great and had zero complications. Good luck!

    [/quote']

HoosieGirl - I read your blog... actually read it twice. :) LoL. Question - why wasn't your supportive person allowed to stay with you? I want my husband to stay... and he wants to stay too.

  9. And im already hungry with a headache. I think it's completely mental' date=' because its only 8am and I never eat this early normally! Is going to be a rough 2 weeks! 4 shakes a day plus clear liquids. I'm going to prove to myself that I can have will power, since I've never been able to stick to a diet before! I'm nervous![/quote']

Today is day 4 for me. It has been so much harder than I thought it would be... and I did a pre- pre-op diet to try to prepare. I finally crawled out of bed last night, after spending 3 days in bed sleeping and whining. :) I am up today and feel better.

The key for me has been, not getting too hungry. If I feel at all hungry, I will eat sf Jello, popsicles, cup of broth and Protein shakes. My doctor lets me have green veggies too... so I am squeezing in a green salad too. I feel like I am eating all day... but I am just trying to get through these next 11 days.

    Good luck to you!
