    no loss?

If only this were an exact science...so frustrating when we're doing all the things we need to but we don't see movement where we'd like to see it. You are on the right track and if you give your body some time to heal and right itself, you'll start seeing things move in the right direction. Also, I agree with RJ...I only weigh once a week...I find it too emotionally wracking to do it any more often than that, and I find my biggest losses are the week after I've had a weigh-in where I've maintained or only lost a little (I think it makes me work harder lol). Hang in there and remember that you have all of us here to support you!!
  3. Finally made it to my first 50 lbs. gone!! Getting to work on the 2nd 50! :)

  4. Hey there, For whatever it's worth, I have two thoughts: 1) Give yourself a bit more time to have everything stabilize - you've really been through the mill lately, and it may just take a little longer to get back on track. 2) It sounds as though your surgeon isn't going to be a good partner for figuring out the ins and outs of whatever is going on; now that the surgery is finished, could you maybe just meet with the NUT and only see the surgeon for whatever post-ops are absolutely required? Personally, if I had had that interaction, I'd be shopping for a new doc. Hang in there - things will get better!!

    HEALTHY BROWNIES!

I've always been a big fan of zucchini in baked goods, since it keeps everything moist and adds fiber. And strangely, you really don't taste it when it's in anything chocolate.
  6. I think everyone needs to make the decision that's right for them, but no matter what you decide, it's important to remember that all of these surgeries are only tools, not magic wands. I've had several co-workers and friends who have had the bypass; 2 have stayed committed to eating right, getting in their protein and water, exercising, etc., and the others have not. Guess which ones are still losing or maintaining? I can't say enough about how much of a mental shift this has been for me, and I'm far from perfect at it - we all have our bad days. However, my favorite saying is "persistence, not perfection" because I do believe that gets us through most things in life. Hang in there and know that we're all here to support you as you move along with your journey!
  7. My nut said 90 grams per day (because I'm taller and in my childbearing years). However, my understanding is that the requirement does go down the smaller we get; definitely worth checking in with your nut on that. Good luck!
  8. So it's looking like I may fall a little short of losing 50 lbs by my birthday (10/15), but you know what? 42 lbs is a LOT closer than I've ever gotten before, and I'll take it! :)

  9. I had my first really awesome NSV today. I had ordered some new school clothes for fall (I'm a teacher) when the catalog was having a great sale, and ordered all my tops in a 3X (my usual size). They arrived today and were huge...not just a little too roomy, but HUGE. I don't think I've ever been so happy to pay return shipping costs in my life. Can't wait until I can shop in cheaper regular stores and not be stuck with ordering online.

I had to return clothes! :)

  11. Started at 379 (I'm 5'8"), was 370 on day of surgery (7/15) and am currently 338, so a total loss of 41 lbs.

  13. I agree with the posters who upped their intake/protein and started to see some more movement on the scale. I'm almost 3 months out from surgery and have lost 41 lbs. total, with my biggest losses being in the last few weeks when I've upped my intake to between 900 and 1100 per day. I was trying to be so diligent about keeping my calories down and getting in my Protein, Water, and Vitamins, and wasn't losing much. When I talked to the nut, she suggested I up my intake and see if that made a difference - it did. Lost 6 lbs 2 weeks ago and 3 lbs this past week. I was initially very disappointed I wasn't losing faster, but as many posters have mentioned, you need to look at it over the long haul - I've never lost this much weight before, and I'll take being 41 lbs lighter than I was. Hang in there and give yourself a break - do what you can, keep getting in your water and protein, and only weigh 1x a week if you can. I was driving myself nuts weighing everyday, and have been much happier weighing only on Fridays. You've got this!

  15. So here's an odd one: I didn't have any issues with my knees or ankles prior to surgery; I could walk, climb stairs, etc. with no problems. I'm 7 weeks out from surgery, and for the last few days or so, I've been having some aches in my knees and ankles and they don't feel very stable when walking long distances, climbing stairs, etc. I'm stumped. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?
  16. Laura-Ven, lol...you are ALWAYS a help And yes, we'll be getting married on a cruise that departs on June 29 (still trying to nail down the ceremony date), so I've got awhile still before I'll have to order something. Thus far the only real tip I've been able to find online is to order a dress with a corset style back, since you can cinch it up tighter if you need to closer to the date.
  17. My fiance and I got officially engaged last night ( :)!!) We're so excited (this was a long time coming due to several obstacles) and can't wait to get started on the planning. Among the many things swirling about in my head at the moment is the dress. I'm 2.5 months post-op and down 38 lbs., which is enough that I can feel the difference but I'm not yet seeing it in clothes, etc. For those of you who have been through this and gotten married in the process, how did you approach getting your dress? It seems like we need to wait to see how much we lose, but also can't wait too long and risk not being able to get the dress in time. Advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks

    July sleevers please check in..

I'm 2.5 months out from surgery as of Monday, and I'm down 38 lbs., which is an average of 3.8 lbs. per week (not bad, I'll take it!!) I was initially a little surprised that I wasn't losing faster, but now that it's been a few months I realize that if I keep averaging the weight loss, then it really doesn't matter if I stall for a few weeks here and there. It's the long view that counts. My goal is to be 50 lbs. down by my birthday, which is in a little less than a month; hopefully I'll get there, but if not, life will go on. One day at a time
  19. Getting so close to the 40 lbs down mark :)

  20. Just curious if anyone else is eating paleo/primal since they've been sleeved? We were making a concerted effort to cut out all the processed stuff we could prior to my sleeve, and hope to continue following a primal plan as closely as we can.

    Discouraged :(

I'm almost 9 weeks out and have lost 32 lbs as of this morning (I only weigh once a week on Friday mornings). Given how much I have to lose, I've been surprised that I haven't lost more, but I'm happy that the scale is moving in the right direction. I am going to try to up my exercise with more time at the pool, since I am now having problems with my knees (which I never had pre-op...go figure!), plus I think I need to go back to having a Protein shake in the morning (I'm just having a hard time getting those last 20 grams or so of protein in everyday). Hang in there - we're gonna get there!
  22. goirish78

    Popcorn?

I'm a little over 2 months out and I've occasionally had Skinny Pop popcorn and it's been fine. I just make sure that I chew really well, plus I like the portion control in the little bags.
  23. Hi there! Just checking to see if there are other sleevers in the Delaware/PA/NJ/MD area? I'm having my surgery with Dr. Peters at Christiana on July 15th and would love to connect with anyone local
  24. goirish78

    I lost what?

As of this morning, I've lost SIX 5 lb bags of sugar (and a 1 lb box of confectioner's sugar)! Life is sweet (even minus all the sugar
  25. 31 lbs. down - yay for reaching the 30 mark!
