    Any February 2014 Sleevers?

Well I did it! I finally braved the big bad scale this morning after 5 days into the pre-op diet....i was pretty sure I had lost no weight on the high protein liquids...just felt bloated and fat. But guess what? I have l lost 6 pounds!! Not sure where it came off but now I am stoked!! Woo hoo! The protein shakes are not looking so bad now!

    Any February 2014 Sleevers?

LindseyHeth I will weigh myself in the a.m. Dread......Except for the first day of diarrhea, I have not had a bowel movement. Is this normal? Maybe I should get some metamucil tomorrow. Regardless, I am sure the- day- before-surgery miralax bowel prep kit will take care of any residual constipation..lol!

LindsayHeth I am exactly where you are, but am afraid to weigh myself ! I am afraid no weight loss will discourage me. So, I am hoping my body is not letting me down.

    pre op diet concerns

Sweetsophia, I have the same question. Why does our high protein intake have to be in liquid form?? I get needing to do just clear liquids and bowel prep just prior to surgery, but what does liquid protein do any different than soft protein.... I also get needing to get used to liquid protein for post op success, but is there really a scientific explanation as to why we are drowning in liquid protein?

    Any February 2014 Sleevers?

Hi Glad I found this thread.....i am on day 4 of pre op diet. Surgery 25th. Cannot believe it has been 8 months since I started down this slope! Almost there!! You all keep posting after your surgeries so i know what to expect....i really am in disbelief that I am almost there. The liquid diet keeps reminding me this is real! I have not shared this surgery with anyone but my husband. I know my brothers, who have never had a weight problem, would criticize and belittle me, as they always have, because of my weight. One brother even made fun of our mom because she was heavy. He was always trying to tell her what to eat, then tell everyone about all the bad food in her cupboards. Well, mom passed away a short while ago( COPD), and am I here, big as life, to make my brothers eat crow! I will be thin AND healthy! You know, the funny thing about my critical brothers, is they both thought their personal appearances were important enough to have rhinoplastic surgery (nose jobs) in their twenties. I, however thankfully, was blessed with a cute, albiet fat, little nose..... I am having weight loss surgery to be stronger and healthier. If I happen to look good as a result, what a bonus!! Sorry for the rant. I must be in the liquid pre-op diet crazy stage! Keep posting folks! It is soooo encouraging!
  11. Yep, the 25th cometh for me.....i am so excited that maybe THIS time I will get healthy, energetic, and oh yes, maybe less fat. Can't bring myself to "skinny" yet. Don't wanna jinx me......
  12. Hey readytobehealthy! I am scheduled for 2/25 and I too feel alittle shamed that I could not lose and keep it off ......that I had to resort to surgery......but I know this is the way to a better life, for me. I have battled weight gain since high school and it has taken its toll on me.....lose 10, gain 15, lose 5, gain 8, etc etc....exercise, swim, walk.....this is the right decision for me now. I wish I had done this 10 years sooner, because I feel like I have l lost 10 years of living, sucumbing to existence only. Good luck!
  13. Has anyone switched surgeons/ bariatric clinics due to scheduling delays? I started my VSG journey May 2013, went to required psychological testing, completed my bloodwork and endoscopy, completed my 6 month supervised diet as required by insurance, been approved by insurance, and cleared for surgery by my surgeon, BUT my surgery date is projected not to be until April or May 2014!!! WTF !!! This is unacceptable to me!!! It has already been 7 months!! Docs office says their schedule is full up and can't be done any sooner. I was wondering about changing surgeons and hospitals to get an earlier surgery date. Has anyone ever switched surgeons/programs mid-stream like this???? I am frustrated beyond belief!!!

    Switching surgeons

You know, until I was given the 2/25 surgery date, it is like I believed my surgery would never happen.....it seemed like a fairy tale, just out of my reach. Now the reality is really setting in! I am an organizer. Now I can start planning!! I am getting very excited!
  15. My PCP was the one who referred me for bariatric surgery...i too thought she was nuts....but after reading every book I could find, I now know she was so right. She was very particular about which surgeon to do the surgery...sent me to Dr.Gluck Life Without Limits program, which is an accredited Bariatric Center of Excellence with extremely low complication percentages.

    Switching surgeons

Ok, hope this is not a double post... I did contact another program and surgeon who could have scheduled me for a late January 2014 surgery, after completing her pre surgical program. I was very excited, much better than April or May 2014! My 6 month supervised diet with my original surgeon was acceptable with my insurance...apparently all they needed was proof of 6 months of a supervised diet with a doctors office. So, when I told my original surgeon that an April or May surgery date would not work for me and I could get a January 2014 surgery date with a different surgeon, they scrambled to get me an earlier date...go figure....i am now scheduled for February 25th... still a month later than the second surgeon could do, but definitely a lot better than a April or May surgery. So I'm sticking with my original surgeon and planning a February 25th surgery! Yay!

    Switching surgeons

Good question. I am calling a new program on Monday. The 6 month supervised diet was pretty generic but BCBS approved me immediately after completing it 12/10/2013. The surgeon's office insists they have no earlier dates!! I have several comorbity issues, and needed this surgery as soon as I could have it, per my family doc. Arhhhhhh!! It will be at least 11 months by the time of my anticipated surgery date . We are talking next April or May!!

    So Much On My Mind......

DaddyMarie, your post is an echo of my own fears as well.. There is so much left to the imagination. I too have changed my mind a couple of times. I verified before even starting this journey that my insurance would cover it, and am now in the 6 month supervised diet period required by my insursnce, however, I was told that I still have to be approved by insurance after completing the 6 month diet. Then there is a 2 month minimum wait to get a surgery date from the doc. Add to that the fact that my first consult appt. with the doc did not count as my first month of the 6 months, it will be 9 months I have waited......and still no surgery date! And no confirmation I will ever get one!! I need the surgery for several health reasons, plus just feeling poorly.....pretty discouraged right now..... I know I did not get fat overnight but I feel like I am one day closer to an early death, for every more I have to wait....

    What do you ride?

I ride a 2007 Honda Shadow I bought this past July.....with 50 miles on it. Sweet bike. My first cruiser but have alwsys had bikes since i was a kid. I am now 57 and in my 6 month preop insurance waiting period. Looking at maybe a Jan 2014 surgery date....can't wait. My husband says if I do okay after surgery, he will have weight loss surgery as well...he rides a Norton and we would like to experience Sturgis next year....hope, hope hope....we may find it alittle too rowdy for our old bones, but who cares! We are not getting any younger!

    My knees HURT!

My knees alwsys ache if I am not getting enough salt in my diet...ie drinking too much water snd flushing out minersls and nutrients the body needs. I'd adk my doc if it persists.
  21. Oh man, you are where I wanna be!! I have to do the 6 month supervised diet so I have months to go before I can say, "surgery in two days"! I wish I were there. Good luck in surgery. I will be continuing to "lurk" on this blog and am anxious to read your updates.
