  1. I soooooo love Bariatric Pal just because of the inspiration from people like you, Lipstick!! There is always a relevant and inspirational story to help where I am at in my journey....awesome job!!!
  2. I wrote this question in the veterans forum only to find I do not have enough posts to post in the Veterans Forum! So I hope a veteran can help me out here.... Ok, I get it....i think....Is regain more of a probabilty or just a possibility? I am 3 months post surgery and lurking in the Veterans Forum searching for any scrap of information and inspiration that will help me in this fight for life. (Down 40 lbs, so far) My question is this: After weight loss surgery, does 3500 calories still equal a 1-pound weight gain? Or do we gain weight more easily, like looking at a chocolate bar equals a three pound gain!? I understand salt impacts Water weight. I get that once started down the slippery slope of one bad choice, it is tough to stop. But scientifically (?), why do we put on weight so easily? Am I doomed to some sort of a new physical curse whereby 500 extra calories equals a pound gained?
  3. Par1959...i love you!! So if I want to weigh 150, I should figure how many calories it takes to maintain that number, based on my metabolism, exercise, and consumption. And as long as I stick to that formula, I should not regain?? I know it is not quite that simple but that means I am not subject to some perverse law of physics caused by WLS, cursing me to a higher than normal predisposition to regain??
  4. Okay Michiganchik, thanks. So if you exceed your 1000-1100 calorie maintenance, then you gain weight? I was so hoping this was not true, but alas, I am doomed! Lol!

    Feeling sorry for myself

Shaza1963 Keep us posted on how you are doing. I am almost exactly where you are post op and just started vomiting this week, except mine is preceded by diarrhea and cramping. The vomiting feels like it is caused by the diarrhea as I have no nausea, just vomiting spasms. Sometimes it is just dry heaves. Other times, small pieces if undigested food comes up. When the diarrhea is over, so is the vomiting. I am following the protein first rule, then vegetable type carbs and avoiding all sugars....not sure if this all makes sense.....I think if this does not resolve in the next day or two, I will call my surgeon. Otherwise, I have had no problems except fatigue. I am 12 weeks postop, down 35 pounds from 226, with 40 more to goal.

    Energy levels

I need to correct my last post. I was sleeved 2/25, not 3/25. So I am 6 weeks+ out from surgery. My energy level is very low most days, but occassionally I get a good day of energy! Wish I understood the chemistry of food. I am totally eating all protein (60-80 gms per day). My water intake is still low...around 50 oz per day. I have lost about 30 lbs post op....going down slowly. Have 50 more to lose. I know if I did not poop out so quickly when I exercise, I would lose more. I am just grateful to be able to drag myself out of bed everyday...

    Energy levels

I had surgery 3/25 and I was lethargic beyond description until just the last couple days. One day I could only do a minute and a half on my nordictrak....i kept trying....now I can do 12 minutes....Yesterday and today I walked outside. My energy lasted a few hours, then I was fatigued again. I have found that if I keep protein water with me all the time, drink regularly, I revive some. My doc says my body is adjusting from burning carbs to running on protein. Protein is fuel for me. My brain keeps craving carbs and sugars, but so far, as long as I have protein immediately handy, I can get by the cravings. I just love how little it takes to fill me up, now.....
  8. Here is my cents...13 days post op....and hungry!! Eating liquids and purees, as ordered, however, still hungry! My saving grace?? That wonderful pouch restriction that says if you follow your head and eat one more bite, you are gonna throwup and be in pain! Restriction is the key for me so far. And if I follow the "proteins first" mantra when I graduate to real food, I am fairly certain that overeating will be a thing of the past. It hurts to overeat! That is me, for now....
  9. Butteflyhigh: I have no overt support system in place, by choice. This is my secret. I am 13 days post op and find it difficult to keep my mouth shut! I am so damn excited about losing 20 lbs, I want to shout it from the rooftops!! I was in the hospital two p.m.s . My surgeon automatically set me up with a visiting home nurse to check on me for a few days, more if I needed. That was reassuring. He also gave me his personal cellphone number, if I had any problems. I had none. So on day 5, a Sunday a.m., he called me to see how I was! I was flabbergasted! All that said, I have lurked daily on this forum for months, gleaning everyones' circumstances, and that helps me immensely. I will need to find a local support group and exercise group/ facility, once I am cleared for activity. I look forward to socializing with others in the same boat as me. Good luck.

Well folks....tomorrow I get Glucked!! Yep, Dr. Gluck will be sleeving me, after 8 months of jumping through insurance hoops, it is finally happening...How am I feeing???........i am excited about getting healthy and feeling better, anxious about whether I can live happily, sleeved. Anxious cause I am not sure how I will respond physically and mentally to this new attitude about food.....mostly fearful of failing and never getting healthy and feeling better......feeling alittle guilty cause I never told anyone I was doing this ( except spouse).....well......that is just about it for now......I think it will be one hell of a ride.......gotta be better than the one I have been on for 20 years.......

  13. On day four of 14 day pre-op liquid diet....stomach is really upside down, rumbling about everything! Not feeling weak yet. Eating high protein liquids, mostly. I think this is gonna get old fast. I bought sugar free jello and sf pudding, which will switch it up a bit.....tomato soup is my favorite so far....really want to add something solid to the soup....
