  1. Hi all - can someone explain to me what flouro is? also, I was banded in Aug. of 2007 and just got my first fill yesterday, Feb. 2008. the Dr. only gave me 1cc and I was wondering if you can usually feel restriction with only 1cc - any help will be appreciated! Thanks.

  2. H i everyone - ok, so I was banded in Aug. of 2007. I lost 30 pounds, then gained back 6! Here it is Jan. and I am only getting my first fill on Feb. 6. I feel like a hungry failure, and the Doc is doing the fill with xray - anyone hear of that? So my fill is at 3:00 pm and i can't eat or drink from the night before until after the fill. How the heck am i supposed to go all day with nothing to eat or drink??!! I hope someone out there went through this, too. Any comments?

  3. kmefaith - the liquid diet is at first only clear fluids like broth, apple juice ( i mixed it with Water, less calories that way ) Jello, etc. - anything that has no chunks or isn't too thick. the next step would be more creamy things like cream Soups, pudding, yogurt, etc. there really isn't much to eat on the clear liquids but as I said after surgery I really didn't feel like eating much anyway. go to the food section and you'll find some more clear liquid ideas.

  4. hey sallydee - I just had my surgery on Aug. 1 from Dr. Dean Roye. I was very pleased with his staff, they handled everything with the ins. company - I have blue cross, too and they paid for it all. Dr. Roye is a very straight forward guy, he tells it like it is. I did go to Dr. Pohl at first but no offense to him I felt like he just pushed people through. Then I some of my good friends who work at Blue Cross told me that Dr. Roye has an outstanding record in this type of surgery - he's been doing it longer than the rest, and so far there has been no reported " incidences ", so I went to him and really liked him. I am sure that others may have their own opinions - I'm just telling you from my experience with him. I trusted him all the way. Good luck with whomever you choose!

  5. Hey everyone - I was banded on August 1, 2007. I have been back to the Dr. twice already and both times he did not do a fill explaining that I had lost the amount of weight I should have ( 29 lbs. ). He says 1 or 2 lbs. per week is exactly what he wants me to lose. But now I'm reading about all of you getting 2 or 3 fills a few months after surgery and I'm confused. My Dr. said that if I get a fill when I don't need it, it would be a waste cause when I really do slow down on my weight loss I won't have any fills left and I would be on my own to lose the weight. Can some of you explain to me why you are getting so many fills already? I feel really confused about all of this. Thanks!

  6. jpayton - when were you banded? I was banded on August 1 and still haven't gotten a fill. You already had three?? My Dr. said that because I lost 29 lbs. already I don't need a fill yet. Have you lost alot of weight? Three fills since when? I'm dumbfounded!

  7. Hi Ken - I was banded by Dr. Roye on August 1. I have lost 29 lbs. so far and thought that was not real good but he said that he prefers 1-2 lbs. a week weight loss. I was disappointed that so far he has not given me a fill - I went to see him twice already and he won't give me a fill yet cause he says I'm doing fine for now. So I will trust his decision - he is a very good Dr. - he won't waste a fill if you don't need it - he would rather save it for when your weight loss slows down and you really need it. I am eating alot less than I used to without starving myself, so right now things are perfect for me. Dr. Roye is a straight to the point man. When I questioned my weight loss he said that if I wanted to lose faster I should have had the bypass, then he explained to me that I am doing fine and some people lose more than others, some people have more time to exercise than me ( I own 2 businesses and have almost no time ) and again it may be easier for some. So I am satisfied for now. The surgery was fine for me, no problems at all. It was the best thing I ever did - I was scared at first but I am down 2 sizes and I feel so much better just by losing the 29 pounds that I know it was worth it. I also found out that when Dr. Roye does a fill he uses x-ray to do it so he isn't poking and prodding his patients with the needle - the xray shows exactly where the port is and thats that, no guessing. Feel free to email me any time if you have questions, ok?

  8. Can someone or all of you, tell me which is best to really watch to help take weight off - calories, carbs, fat, sugar? I'm totally confused - if I watch my calories there's too much fat, if I watch my fat there's too much sugar. Help please! Also, I had my surgery in August and still have not gotten a fill since i lost a pretty good amount of weight at first, but I feel as though I'm eating too much now. What can I do? Thanks for any help!

  9. OMG Jez - I am going through the same thing!! Why did I have the surgery if he won't give me the fill?? I am eating like a pig and am so frustrated - I don't see my Dr. for 2 months!!!! I'm going to gain all the weight back that I lost. Someone please tell me what the heck is going on with my Dr.!!

  10. hi Liz - don't feel bad - I was banded on Aug. 1st and when I was supposed to get a fill the dr. said no cause i gained about 6 pounds more than i should have, which is good but now i feel no restriction at all! And i don't see him for 2 months!!! I need a fill bad but have to do it on my own. But I know what you're going through - it gets better, believe me. I feel like I don't stop eating now - can't wait for a first fill!!

  11. You've all made me feel so much better about not getting my fill - I know it's better not to get it but I was so afraid of gaining all the weight back since I don't feel as restricted as I did after my surgery. It will be hard but I'm going to do it. I didn't have this surgery for nothing.

  12. GR8 - I lost a total of 19 pounds in 6 weeks, which I didn't think was that much. I'm not really hungry in between meals but I am hungry at night . I am getting all the Protein I need ( I'm not a meat eater so I do eat alot of carbs but also fruits and veggies). And yes, sometimes I do eat more than I should - so how did I lose the weight? Beats me! The doc said he expects 1-2 lbs a week - i did more than that.

  13. Hi all - well the day that I've been waiting for has come and gone. I went to the Dr. yesterday for what I thought was my first fill - I was really excited because I was banded on Aug. 1 and was starting to feel as though I had no restriction and needed a bit of help. The Dr. wouldn't give me the fill cause he said I lost more than what was expected in the 6 weeks after my band placement. OMG - I almost begged him for it - I told him that I was afraid that without a fill I'd start eating too much, but he said I was doing fine. Now, I know I should be happy but I am so scared that I'll gain the weight back, and what's worse is that I don't see him again for 2 MONTHS!!!!! Has this happened to anyone else and how did you do? How did you do it? I would really appreciate some feedback if this has happened to you - is this a common occurance? Thanks!

  14. Beka - I feel as you do. I was banded on Aug. 1 and at first I was doing so well - 16lbs. in 3 weeks. Now I feel as though I can eat anything and am scared to go for my first fill on Friday. I know I lost a few more pounds but feel as though I should have lost more. I don't understand why I am eating like a pig ( well not that bad ) but still I still wonder why I keep feeling so hungry all the time. I, too worry that I will fail.
