  1. The time has finally come!!! All packed and leaving at 8 am for the hospital. Not nervous at all' date=' but excited for this step in my journey. Can't wait to be on the other side. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

    This is Jeff, Paula's husband.

I wanted to let everyone know, Dr Gersin just came out and told me all went well and he was pleased with everything. She is in recovery and I will be able to see her in an hour or two.

  2. My July 22 sleevers...2 more days!!!! What have u done so far to prepare? I have purchased, Soups, liquids (water, crystal light, Gatorade, smoothie/protein shake ingredients), bandages, etc. I'm really trying to prepare as much as possible. I took the gel power off of my nails, and got clear polish on my hands and feet. Today I clean up whatever is left and do my hair. tomorrow I drink that seemingly awful citrate of magnesia. Surgery is at 10 am for me.

Got my pantry and fridge stocked up, and did most of the cleaning yesterday. I'll finish cleaning today and pack my bag.

Tomorrow I will be with my Corvette club at an event so that will occupy my mind and chill me out.

  3. Hey guys' date=' my Dr says clear liquids for first two seems after surgery. How am i suppose to get my Protein in[/quote']

Try unflavored Protein in broth or unjury chicken Soup protein.

You can also try Isopure zero carb clear drinks. A 20 oz bottle has 40g of protein. I have a couple of bottles that I haven't tried yet. Most people are not fond of it, but you can dilute it with Water and maybe add some crystal light.

  4. im glad to hear that you got through the procedures that eases my fears a bit. i know your bummed ( i would be too) but hang in there everything will turn out fine in the end! Good luck on the rest of your journey and keep me posted!

Update! The pathology report from the endoscopy came back negative! I had the barium enema procedure done this morning and my doctor's office called back with the results saying that everything was negative!!

SO!!!......we are full steam ahead for surgery on Monday, 7/22!

    I couldn't be happier!! :) :)

  5. Thx I can look for them in my stores.

The Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk comes in half gallons in the refrigerated section near the other milks, or you can also buy it unrefrigerated in quart brick packs. I have found both at Walmart. Only 30 calories per 8 oz.

I do a double shake in the morning. 8 oz Water plus 8 oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk, add 2 scoops of Syntax nectar chocolate Truffle Protein powder, and a few ice cubes and shake it in my Blender Bottle.

    REALLY GOOD!!!! :)

  6. Hi there,

So I'm feeling very nervous about the endoscopy. My last appointment and possibly my biggest hurdle lol. How bad is it? How long does it take? I am afraid of pain or not being able to breathe- probably irrational but would love to hear your thoughts. thanks! :)

I had an endo/colo last Thursday....really....it was a piece of cake. The only bad thing was the bowel prep process the day before the colonoscopy. Everything else was fine. I had a very slight scratchy throat afterwards, but it was gone by the next morning.

Don't worry...you will be out for the procedure and everything will be OK. :)

  7. I don't think you should have the liquid to which you are adding the Protein heated to no more than 130 or 140F. The Protein will curdle if it's hotter than that.

Yes, some of the protein will stay in little clumps, but what I do is warm up my chicken broth to the correct temp in the microwave in a Blender Bottle, (use a thermometer to make sure its between 130 and 140F), drop in the whisk ball, then add my one scoop of unjury chicken broth Protein powder. shake it up and it will get rid of those little clumps. Really yummy....you don't taste the protein at all.

  8. Ok...back home after my double whammy procedure today! Everything went pretty smoothly and I was well taken care of.

However, I did have a "floppy" colon, so even though I was thoroughly cleaned out, they couldn't go as far up as they normally do. SOOO.....lucky me again!.....I get to go in yet again for a barium enema, and I'll be awake for that one.

The endoscopy also revealed a linear ulcer in my stomach, and Dr. Gersin i going to wait for the exact results on that one on Monday. Depending on where the ulcer is, he may be able to do the sleeve on the 22nd if it's in the part of my stomach that will be cut out. If the ulcer is on the line that would be folded over and sewn, he will wait to do the sleeve until the ulcer is healed, which all in all means 6 weeks of Prevacid and a six week minimum delay for my sleeve.

I know it's for the best and I trust him completely, but I am totally bummed out.

  9. Anyone had their sleeve done by this man? He seems very straight forward but not sure of his experience.

Just as a follow up to my previous post......Dr. Gersin performed my endocsopy/colonoscopy earlier today. He was very compassionate, but he IS very professional....he doesn't really joke around like some others might. He does have a dry sense of humor. He spoke with my husband for a while when I was in the recover room, and DH has the same opinion of him also.

With that said, I was VERY happy with Dr. Gersin and the entire staff that took care of me today. I know I can trust him to do my sleeve.

  10. Anyone had their sleeve done by this man? He seems very straight forward but not sure of his experience.

He has a very quiet understated manor, but he knows his stuff! He is head of Bariatric surgery at Carolinas HealthCare. Carolinas HealthCare is #1 in bariatric surgery in North Carolina, and is nationally recognized.

You will be in good hands with him and with CHC.
