  1. You really need to talk to your NUT. You really do not experience hunger anymore. They removed that hormone. Its all psychological. You need to change your mind set. The reason u r on liquids is to give your stomach time to heal. It is stapled and must be careful of a rupture. You must be committed to this if you want it to work. Its hard at the beginning but it gets easier. Make wise choices and remember where you were in life and why you made this choice. Its a life changer and you need to be strong. I am almost 5 months post and 92lbs down. You can do it. Just learn to say no and pick healthy choices and stick to what they tell you. It only works if you want it to.

I don't think that's true- I am almost 3 months out and I do feel hunger which is when I know to eat. THe difference I feel After surgery is hay I feel full and know when to stop. I am down about 69lbs.

  2. Someone posted a pic of something called "P3" which are like lunchables with meat, cheese and nuts. You can find them with the lunchables at most grocery stores. Also where I live most burger places do lettuce wrapped burgers or chicken. That has been good for me when I'm on the go. I do okay with the lettuce but I know some people struggle. Also the Premier Protein is pretty easy to take in the car. For those of us who have had our weight loss slow down we must remember that that's still a loss and slow and steady wins the race. That's not meant to discourage anyone who may still be losing lots of weight each week. But just because we aren't losing 5+ pounds a week anymore does not mean we are failing.

I totally have a problem with lettuce and tomatoes now! I use to LOVE salads and now I don't enjoy lettuce or tomatoes at all! I thought it was just me.

Honestly, i never lost 5lbs a week after surgery. The most I've lost was one week I lost 4, but for the most part I lose 1-3lbs a week and I'm ok with that whether someone says that's slow or not, I don't care cause I'm happy :)

  3. Hi PA sleevers! Another sleever and I are going to do the color run in Philly on July 19th!! Inbox me if you're interested in joining us!

Ugh I've been waiting to do the color run, I thought they were going to do it in August! I just booked that weekend to visit my friend in NC otherwise I totally would be in! I'd love to meet up with some local sleevers!

I am doing the Susan g komen tomorrow downtown Philly. Also, I am signing up for the Mudarella in August if you or anyone else is up for a challenge!!!

  4. Wow, everyone is so helpful on this forum. It feels good to be able to be heavy and talk about it like it is normal. You know what I mean? Ok, so both of you got your surgery dates very quickly. That is great news. Now, I just have to decide on a doctor! All of the doctors seem so excellent, it is hard to choose. I guess - if their reputations are all so good - it will come down to price in the end. That sounds odd to say, doesn't it? Thank you both for your answers. They help clarify things. Covatila - how are you adjusting to the post op diet? Anything to be aware of?

I've had no problem adjusting to anything. I still can eat anything, just less of it. Obviously I aim for healthy, Protein choices but sometimes I don't. Why? Because I'm human :) but I feel so good, I will never allow myself to go back the way I felt before! Ever!

  5. Just haven't been to the gym in a while. Well I got there today. I think just in an emotional slump.

I went through a 2 week slump- didn't eat right and didn't exercise...no idea why but I really just had to ride it out. Got back on track and now I'm consistently trying to get my 10,000 steps in, and I am on a 21day no junk food fast :)

  6. Thank you for your reply jennMc76! That is great advice about being ready post surgery with a followup with my local GP. I will definitely arrange that in advance. I wonder...if you don't mind my asking...Did the doctors require any kind of tests or physician supervised weight loss periods before getting surgery? Were they able to get you in soon? I would like to try to get surgery in June - will that be too soon to get an appointment? How far booked out do you think the average is? I know you can't possibly know that but have you heard of long delays to schedule? I am having a hard time deciding on doctor. I don't want to spend a fortune but at the same time...you get what you pay for. I look forward to hearing how everything went for you. Please let us know how it goes and any details you can think of. :)

I went to Mexico alone in February. Went to the OCC with dr Ortiz. I don't regret my decision at all. I had the best care I've ever received at a hospital while in Mexico. Would do it again in a heart beat. I spoke with Gloria as my coordinator and she was more than helpful. I emailed questions for months before actually booking my appt. then when I was ready to schedule my appt, they offered me a surgery date a week and a half later! Yikes! I wasn't ready for that soon! Lol I would say you'd probably be able go get an appt in June.

No supervised weight loss required, just. 3 day to 2 week liquid diet depending on your starting weight.

I did research for a year on dr Ortiz and a other dr....ironically, I can't even remember the name of the other dr I was researching.

I am not even 3 months out and down a total of 67.4lbs since January and I feel fantastic!

  7. Lost almost 3lbs! 4/21 227.6 4/28 224.8 I'm a happy camper! I am officially what I weighed 10 years ago when I finished my sophomore year of college. I weighed 194 going into my freshman year, weighed 210 finishing freshman year, and weighed 225 finishing sophomore year. I still can't believe it, it feels unreal.

    5/2/14 222.8

Down 2lbs this week! I can't believe how close I am to being under 220! I haven't been under 220 in SO long!

  8. I never see it unless I do a side by side comparison photo! Excited today and might do a photo this weekend as I've been only loosing 0-2lbs a week and I lost 4 this week !!

I'm the same way...have to do a pic to see it! Same for the weight loss too. I was sleeved 2/17 and most times I lose 2lbs, I don't often lose more than that a week but last week I lost 4lbs!

  9. Hey everyone. Thank you so much for all the informative posts. Without them I could never have made the decision to book my surgery and pick my surgeon with confidence at OCC. Which I am excited to say is Monday August 25th. I got instructions from Lucia today on pre op weight goal recommendations so I'm going to start right away and try to ease my way towards it and get into the Protein frame of mind. Let me tell you the one thing that gives me incentive is that in 4 months I will be given a tool to help me maintain any efforts that i put in now. That is really something to look forward to. Anyhow thanks everyone, i look forward to getting to know you.

Thats awesome and i think its a great idea to get a head start. my surgery was 2/17/14 and i started preparing myself in october when i signed my paperwork and got my surgery date. i started making small changes like substituting 1 meal for a Protein Shake. i bought all kinds of Protein Shakes to find ones that i really liked. i stopped drinking soda and alcohol...i believe thats what led my post-op diet to not be as challenging. i didnt think the pre-op was too bad either. i dont lose as much as other people, but i am happy with my weight loss. i feel great and have no complaints about my decision, it was the best decision i ever made!

  10. Started C25K in Feb 2013 and this thread was a great source of information and support (surgery was 1/13). Did my 3rd half marathon today (OKC Memorial). It's awesome to see how far I've come and it was great to have my family there to Celebrate. For those of you starting out... Anything is possible if you persevere. I'm 48 and have a bad knee, but I run using the Chi running style and wear zero drop shoes. I run slow but I can run the whole 13 miles now.

That's awesome, and very encouraging for Someone like me in the beginning stages of c25k! I will have to look up the chi running style- never heard of it but my knees are kinda bad tll

  11. Met my goal for the easter challenge...hoping to meet my goal for Memorial Day challenge. Weight on 4/21: 227.6 Goal for Memorial Day: 220 I ready know I'm in a stall...but still hoping I can drop this 8lbs!

    Lost almost 3lbs!

    4/21 227.6

    4/28 224.8

  12. I just celebrated my 2 year anniversary and I'm up 13 pounds. I've been struggling with snacking and can't seem to motivated to get back on track. I've started exercising again but it seems like one day the scale is down and the next day up. Need some advice and encouragement

I'm still in my first year, but if I were u, I would go back to basics. Go back to a Protein shake/liquid Diet for a week or 2. Maybe go back to your nutritionist?

  13. I had the same situation as kindle- wls was excluded from my policy, no matter what conditions I have, surgery won't be covered. I also made the decision to go to Mexico in February. Best decision I ever made- I did my research and was confident in the dr I picked. There are risks with any surgery no matter where you go but I have to say, I had such a good hospital/dr experience. I went to Mexico alone for the surgery, only told ppl on here and 2 friends. I was treated SO well, it was almost like I was in a hotel. I'm already considering going back to Mexico for plastic surgery on my arms or thighs.

  14. I am not here to convince nobody from doing nothing, but I wouldn't go out the state to do nothing that is so important to my life, I have insurance and always have, so I wouldn't have no reason to go there only on vacation

I went to Mexico for my surgery- I did my research, my dr was fantastic and I had one of the best hospital experiences of my life. I go back to my local hospital for follow up and they have no problem doing follow up, knowing my surgery was in Mexico. We aren't all lucky to have insurance that covers WLS. I couldn't afford $18,000 in cash at my local hospital.

  15. I'm brooke_b___ I'm not specifically using mine to track my progress just yet Bc most of my social media friends don't know I had surgery, but there are lots of "before" pictures on there of me and I'll be adding after pictures when I start recovering.

Same for me- most of my followers are fellow WLS ppl, but I have some friends and family on there that don't know I've had surgery.

  16. I just turned 29 and my appointment is May 12 for surgery. I also want to enjoy my thirties, and finally set myself free from the extra weight I carried around my whole life. Have you had surgery yet? Instagram ashl3yoh

I had my surgery in feb, turned 30 in April. I'm down 62lbs so far including pre-op and I'm feeling amazing! I just may feel better in my 30s than I did in my 20s!
