  1. I was sleeved Nov.7, 2013 and found out my whole thyroid had to be taken out about 6 weeks later. They scheduled that in Feb just 3 months after being sleeved. I stalled out afterwards, my TSH got up to 18 (for me optimal seems to be about 1), no energy to even get out of bed. But it worked itself out as my thyroid numbers and medications got stable. I'm 5 lbs under OCC's goal for me now. So just push on. Don't let stalls get you down. I always stuck with not drinking calories and waiting the full 45 minutes after eating to drink.

Thank you! That gives me so much hope! I've been so discouraged and sad about the whole situation. How long did it take you before you got stabilized and started losing again?

  2. Hi everyone- it's been so long since I participated in the boards, I don't even know where to begin to catch up. I was sleeved in February and was doing pretty good until about July when I hit stall after stall. From July to sept I lost only 7lbs even though i still have plenty of weight to lose and I've been stuck since September at the same weight. I won't ramble on- I haven't been around because in September I found out I have thyroid cancer which had started spreading to the muscle in my neck. Had surgery October 17th to remove thyroid and some of the muscle in my neck that the cancer was touching. It's been a tough road, very difficult to function. Energy is very hard to come by... I exercise when I can, but most days just getting out of bed and making it to work is my only victory. I've been pretty depressed trying to deal with this, I hope it's not the "new me", hopefully it will just take some time to get my medication levels right. I was so close to 100lbs down until my surgery..then I gained 5. While I know 95lbs down is great, I almost feel like i didn't get to fully use my tool of VSG in my first year, you know? I'm sorry to be negative, I am trying to think more positive. Anyway, I just thought even though I haven't lost weight and I'm nowhere near my goal, that I should come back on here for encouragement and to see anyone else is dealing with my issues. So I stopped by one of my favorite topics to say hi.

  3. Wow I've not been on here for a long while. I'm down 75 lbs in 6 months. It's amazing. I am though feeling very normal. Nothing makes me sick and the scary part is I'm becoming very relaxed in my eating. Work is stressful and I'm eating through it and the OT I'm putting in is taking away from my workouts. I'm struggling sticking to plan. I'm not gaining but not loosing like I could or should be. I guess I need to reconnect with you all and start to focus on this like I had to right after surgery. Prayers would be appreciated.

I totally understand you! I'm down 91lbs, at 197, stuck there for 2 months now. I've been dealing with some stressful situations at work and family situations and to add to it, I just found out on Wednesday that I have a large tumor in my thyroid and it's possibly cancer. I've skipped meals, ate bad meals, munched on candy...I'm way off track. I haven't gained, but like you said I'm not losing and I know I could be. I'm just having a hard time balancing my life right now. I'm gonna go back this week and read my gastric sleeve book from the hospital about what I should be eating and maybe it will help me get back on track. I'm Traveling all week for work and then hopefully I will get test results back by Friday.

  4. Philly here I got turned down by my insurance company keystone health plan east my insurance says they don't cover bariatric surgery so I can't appeal because they don't cover it I can't get new coverage till open enrollment in November very depressed but I'm fighting back trying to find another way my bmi is 45.8 any ideas would be greatlyappreciate it

My insurance no longer covers any weight loss surgery either. I just went to Mexico this february I have my surgery done. Best decision I ever made!

  5. Hi, I'm twenty years old (I'll be twenty-one in Jan '15) I'm getting the gastric sleeve in Mexico with my mom and dad on the 19th of Sept (2014). Any advice? Also, I followed your IG. (astheykissconsume is my IG name)

That's awesome, congrats!! I had my surgery in mexico this year in February. Which dr are you going to? My IG is chaychelrachel

  6. Hey Everyone! I'm a Newbie and my surgery is scheduled for 9/2/14. I start my pre-op diet this Saturday but I don't know which Protein Shakes to buy. Can anyone suggest the BEST tasting Protein shakes for the pre-op and post op diet? I would Greatly Appreciate it!! xoxo ~BeenGym'N

For ready to drink, I love Premier Protein. Perfect for grab and go. If I have time to blend a smoothie/protein shake I love Unjury. I tried the Isopure ready to drink as they are terrible! Don't buy too much before your surgery, because I was warned about this and I didn't listen. Your taste might change afterwards...I didn't like all the stuff I stocked up on before surgery....I'm almost 6 months out and still have a bunch of protein stuff I don't like!

  7. I had surgery on Feb 11th. I started at 262 and have lost 60 pounds. I am stuck at 202 and have been here for over a month. I don't know how to get out of this stall. I started losing hair at 3 months so I increased my red meat and added olive oil to my diet to increase the good fats. Now at 6 months I think the Hair loss has stopped, or at least slowed down. I do have a little bit of shedding. My hair is blonde so it shows up on my clothing if I wear anything dark. I am 59 so I think the age has a lot to do with the slow down in weight loss. I just realized today is my 6 month anniversary. Life is good...now if I could just get back on the losing track again.

My date was 2/17, surgery weight was 258, I stalled at 207 for a month now I'm stuck at 202 for 3 weeks so far. I just put away the scale and I am focusing on my Protein and exercise!

  8. I seem to be stuck in the 180's for the past few months. My starting weight was 266, my SD weight was 253 and I have about 40ish lbs to go. Surgery was Feb 24. I'm 5'3 and will be 40 in September. Im not sure if a stall this long is normal. BUT I am definitely grateful with how far I've come!!!

Wow you are already in the 180s??? That's fantastic! High weight for me 288, Surgery weight on 2/17 was 258, I'm still stuck at 202! Was stuck at 207-209 for a month, been stuck at 202 now for a few weeks.

  9. I was 288, lost 30 pre-op, and right now I go up and down between 201 and 202. Was in a month long stall at 207-209, now I'm back in another stall. Just feel like it's stall after stall for me! Anyone else feel like that?! Lol but I have to remember where I've come from and I am proud, I just have to enjoy the journey and not focus so much on the number on the scale. I'm just so freakin desperate to get below 200!!! 194 is the weight when I graduated high school 12 years ago and 174 was my lowest weight ever. Goal weight is 144.

  10. The quote on my back "I carry your heart" is for my grandmother. The flower on my back is the international sign for Huntington ' s Disease, which have taken many family members including my dad. "Breathe" is because I have anxiety and often forget to take a breath. The dragonfly is from our custom wedding invites and the dog paw is because I have had such awesome dogs in my life.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing :)

  11. I was sleeved Nov 12th LY, its been 8 months...wow. started at 265 and am at 186+/-...so I am around an 80 lb loss. 10 lbs a month I guess its ok. I was very stuck around that 205 mark/ time myself. I think what helped is I started more intense exercise. Like running the stairs instad of just a walk. Only once a wk though-I am not a religous exerciser at all. I walk daily but nothing big. Water is a big deal I found when I drink my water I do a lot better. Tracking helps-go back and track food and cals daily for a week, then go over your diet with the nutritionist-pay for an extra visit if needed. I would keep on the shake thing but try it every other day-liquid one day, food the next, not 3 days in a row. I am no angel and I feel that sometimes I should have lost more (so far) than I have, but I am happy with the loss and am trying not to be too hard on myself because think about how far you have come. You will drop again. Be patient and if you push your body too hard I don't think it responds to that either. We are all going to experience some stalling. Look at how far you have come. This might sound weird, but put on a great outfit you couldn't dare wear before and hold your head high. Take a selfie in the outfit, like instead of being down on it, relish what you have now. It's awesome you have had great loss in 5 months. Awesome. You will lose more, keep going.

Thank you so much, that was super helpful and encouraging!

  12. Hey girls I am just 5 months out and I am freakin stalled!! It is making me so frustrated because it made me second guess myself if I am doing everything right like with calories and protein! Glad to see it's not just me stalled at 5 months! I spoke to my dietician to make sure I was getting the right amount of calories and exercising enough so we will see! Just glad I am not alone

What did ur dietician say? How many calories are u eating?

  13. First of all, don't sweat about the 8 pounds. Unless you ate 28,000 calories above and beyond your body's requirement in 4 days, those 8 pounds are not fat. I don't think I could have eaten that much even before surgery! Maybe your slight change in diet over the weekend contained more sodium? Heck, just sitting in a car for 2 days will cause you to retain fluids. My ankles swell like crazy when I'm sitting down a lot. As for my stalls, at 6 weeks I gained 3 pounds out of the blue and then stayed there for a month. I didn't worry too much about it because I was too busy dealing with severe Clostridial diarrhea and the meds they had me on made me nauseous. I was praying to the " bodily function gods" that I would be happy to never lose another pound if the diarrhea and nausea would just go away. As soon as I switched antibiotics I was able to drink and eat more and the stall ended. I had another 2 week stall at 5 1/2 months out, but again, I didn't worry about it and. I didn't do anything different. It just ended on it's own. Just hang in there. Keep following the Protein first/no refined carbs rule, drink at least 64oz Water and take your Vitamins. If what you are doing isn't working, it's time to try something else. Maybe try upping your calories in the form of real food protein rather than reverting back to liquids. Eat different things than you have been. Give your body something else to process. shake things up with variety. More veggies? More Fiber? More fruit? Sorry about your accident. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, kindle! Super helpful! I didn't do any Protein Shakes today, I did all protein from food. Gonna try to lay off the protein shakes for a little bit and im getting back to doing my meal prep too. I've increased my fruits and veggies and fiber as well, my thinking was right in line with your suggestions.

  14. i had my surgery Feb 10th and I keep hovering between 203 and 205. I just can't seem to get to Onederland. I think its the dreaded 5 month stall. I'm not giving up so you don't either. Maybe we just need to exercise more. I think I'll do a couple of days of liquids and increase my exercise. Somebody else told me I needed to increase my calories but I can't eat any more than I'm eating. Don't get too frustrated, keep in mind that we're not in a race, we are in a life time Quest for a healthy life. Good luck. Let me know if you find the magic bullet.

I feel like I eat plenty- I eat 1200-1500 calories depending on the day and if I work out. I have been walking/running 3-4 miles a day, but I was rear ended in an accident and having back problems now so I'm def not exercising as much. I didn't know there was a dreaded 5 months stall I knew there was a 4 week stall and 3 month stall. I feel better if I know other ppl are stalking where I am and that I'm hopefully not doing something wrong! Lol

  15. I had surgery 2/17/14. I was 288, 258 day of surgery. I had been in a stall for a month between 206-209. So I did a 3 day liquid diet and then ate food for 3 days and got down to 202. Then I went on vacation for the weekend. I snacked a little more than normal, but it had no alcohol and didn't eat extravagantly. I got home and got on the scale and I gained 8 EIGHT pounds!!! This is so discouraging, I was only gone for 4 days, and 2 of those days i spent driving to and from NC to PA. I don't understand this. I thought I was bloated and I hadn't pooped in 2 days so I took some Miralax when I got home... I went, but I didn't really lose anything. Have any of you experienced this? I'm so discouraged! I was gonna go on another liquid diet to try and flush out anything. I'm 5 months out. I really thought I would come home from vacation in onderland. :( any advice would be appreciated!
