"when Your Mother Says She's Fat..."

Not sure why the link didn't post for the article :/
  4. Thankfully I'm goin to Mexico for my surgery, so I'm telling people That I'm going on vacation to California and I'm gonna spend a few days out there afterwards enjoying my recovery in the sun and warmth rather than back on the east coat where it will be cold and gloomy
  5. I always tell people when they make comments like that That I'm trying to lose weight. I'm not telling anyone about the surgery tho.
  6. Did you guys get this email too? VerticalSleeveTalk.com! In a few days, VerticalSleeveTalk.com and the other Weight Loss Surgery Boards (WLSBoards) will join together and transition to BariatricPal.com! We’re excited to be leading the movement to support weight loss and health for all members of the weight loss surgery community! I'm kind of bummed. Every other website has combined wls boards... I loved that vertical sleeve talk was just for sleevers.... I hope it doesn't change the boards too much. Do you think we will lose the boards and forums already posted? Or will they carry over?

Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the OCC

I don't think it's weird. I feel the same way, I'm scheduled for 2/17/14. I think because I've done so much research and read about all of the experiences of everyone on here, I feel prepared as to what to expect. I'm just wishing February would hurry on up and get here I've started preparing myself now with little things- such as making sure I take my vitamins everyday, drinking my water, and I drink a protein smoothie everyday for breakfast.

I might be traveling alone and I asked the OCC what people do with their stuff when patients don't have someone with then. This is what she told me: You will be in a private hospital room behind locked doors to the hospital area. It is only our staff that would have access to this area. You can also give your purse to our hospital administrator, Erika, to lock up for you while you are in surgery.

Nope because I knew who those people would be and I decided no to tell them I'm having the surgery done...I've only told people that I know are going to be positive and supportive.
  11. I am going to disney world soon, pre-op... I haven't been there for 20 years when I was younger and thinner. I'm now 285...so my question is have you gone when you were bigger? Were you able to ride any of the rides at magic kingdom or Epcot? Just trying to be prepared if I won't fit on any of the rides

    Call me <evil> but...

It's funny, I dealt with the same thing from my grandfather on my moms side. I only saw him twice a year on thanksgiving and Christmas and because I was the only fat one, he ALWAYS made comments to me and it always ended in me leaving the table and crying. He would say in front of people "are you sure you want to have that piece of pumpkin pie?" Or at Christmas "Rachel, what's that, like your 3rd cookie?" So not only was it hard for me to be there, but also my mom never defended me! I would just look at her and she would shrug and when I would go away upset she would later say to me "you know Rachel he's an old man this may be his last holiday, etc. really?" That's not an excuse to talk to someone like that and make them feel so terrible about themselves especially on the holidays! Well when my grandfather passed away last September it was very hard for me to be upset. I mean, I am upset because it's sad when people passed away and I felt bad for my mom losing her father but for me he only ever brought negativity and pain in my life and made me feel horrible about myself! It really is sad when you treat people like that!

Things I will NOT miss about being fat.

So, last night I went to a hockey game with my brother. I went to sit in the seat and my goodness my lower half is big! As I was squeezing my rear into the seat, someone said did you see that? That was an awesome shot! The guy behind me said "It would've been nice to see it..." and he and his buddies laughed and fist bumped. Things I won't miss about being fat: people making such nasty comments about me. I know there will always be mean, negative people....but the fact that people are so open in being nasty to people who are overweight, it's just frustrating.

How Do You Make Your Protein Shakes?

That sounds delicious! Thanks for the suggestions!
  18. Do you just mix the Protein and milk? Or do you blend it with ice, fruit, Peanut Butter, etc? Like when I am in my pre op liquid only phase and post op liquid only, can I add peanut butter and ice with my shake? Or am I supposed to do only the powder and milk? If I add a banana to it, does that count now as a soft food, even though it's blended in to the thickness of a milkshake? Sorry if these questions are silly
  19. Phew, that makes me feel better! I am planning on staying a few extra days in California after my surgery to sightsee and relax so i will have my camera with me and extra money too and just wanted to make sure it will be safe Also, how did u feel a few days after surgery? In pain and u just wanted to rest? Or were u ok moving around? Were you able to drive?
  20. bee13 and Healthy& KSKinny, How did your surgeries go this year with Dr. Ortiz? Any updates?
  21. What did u do with your stuff like your wallet, phone, etc. I'm nervous about not having someone to hold it for me!
