  1. The part of my stomach removed 6-10-13 during VSG was positive for a bacteria called H.Pilori. My surgeon started me on Very Powerful antibiotics for 2 weeks & I'm nauseated most of the time. Just awful!! Anyone else undergone or undergoing this treatment?

    Weight-wise I am down 52lbs (200 from 252).

  2. The other day i had half of a large Water melon in the fridge' date=' it was in there for awhile but was still good wrapped up in plastic wrap so my sister kids come over and I thought what a good way of getting rid of this to the kids. Well I got the bowls out and started to fill 3 of them, but being a good uncle as i'am, I had a taste to see if is was ok.... OMG is was so good with that teaspoon circle I made, it was so sweet , so I filled their bowls up, there was plenty more left so i went and got 5 more spoon full cuts, after all its just watermelon right??... Worst mistake I did, I think I had 1 too many, I experienced my first (and last) dumping, I was in pain, short of breath, chest pains, watermelon felt like it was all the way up my throat, went on for intense 15 min. I wanted to throw up but I was afraid i rip something so silly me just laid out on the chair all slung out (what I site i must of looked to the kids...lol) then I recovered. So I got up walked in the kitchen and ask if the kids wanted to take home the rest of the watermelon they said no they had one at home. I did not hesitate or blinked my eye i tossed all that sweet tasting melon right in the garbage lesson learned. I had my sleeve surgeon appointment two days later and told him and he just smiled.. I ask "you think I might have hurt something" but assured me i was ok and that fiber fills up quick . I never have thrown away so much food in my life, so I'm better on buying foods now and I love eating healthy...[/quote']

Watermelon did me in too. I can soooo relate. Never again!

  4. My way of thinking is that I am light years ahead of where I was. Every day that I follow my VSG eating plan I know the payoff will be wonderful. I am not in charge of when. I am in charge of eating lots of Protein drinking lots of Water and being kind to myself.

I am not someone who weighs herself daily or even weekly. I was obsessed with food before I don't want to become obsessed with weighing myself now. It's just too stressful. I want to declutter my life, My mind and my body. I do this by keeping things simple.

Some very wise individual posted on this site that this is not a sprint it's a marathon. A lifelong journey. You just got in the race!

Just remember that you already took the biggest step you had the surgery. By doing so you made a commitment to your health and well-being. Naturally we all want our rewards immediately. Give it time. Continue to do what you doing. Minus the obsessing. Laugh out loud.

Replace that obsession with The scale with finding cool Protein rich recipes. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Compare your eating today with the way you ate before VSG.

Come now You must submit you are light years ahead of where you were. And it's only going to get better.

  5. Hello!

I had surgery Monday and came home yesterday. The surgeon office had originally given me a prescription for dissolving prevacid but insurance wouldn't cover.... so then Omeprazole was called in. This is a capsule with little granuals inside. I am curious if others took this during week one and if so how?

    Thanks!

Yes. I opened the capsule and put into tsp Peanut Butter for 1st month. Now I swallow as capsule. 6 Wks post VSG down 41 lbs.

  6. I was sleeved Monday July 15th' date=' overall I'm doing well I just feel so exhausted. I am getting in my liquids so I know I'm not dehydrated I'm just curious when does it go away, being so tired I mean. I can get up for am hour or two at the most but then I'm back in bed for at least 30 mins to an hour even if I don't sleep I just lay down and relax.[/quote']

Take it easy. Everything gets better with time. But u r newly post surgery. It has taken me a good 5 weeks to begin to feel energetic. Now that i am eating and drinking more. Remember u r consuming very few calories and calories = energy. Listen to your body and rest! All the best.

    Rosie

  7. I'm 5'5" and heighest weight was 249 lbs. I am almost 11 months post op' date=' and I didn't lose anything since last month and since the latest pic was taken, which is what I weigh now, around 162 lbs.

First pic is pre op July 2012, then Oct 2012, Dec 2012, Feb 2013, April 2013 and June 2013, so every other month basically since surgery on 8-21-12.

If this is what 160ish looks like for someone my height I wonder if my goal weight (GW) of 145 is realistic. You look slender and healthy.

  8. Mom usually takes me over night' date=' then the next few days are smooth sailing. I'm not eating enough yet to eat Fiber one etc. Still trying for the high Protein and Water.[/quote']

Met w/my surgeon & Nut today. I was told by my dr. that 8 days of Constipation is not "the norm" I am to do a suppository tonight & if that doesn't work then an enema for immediate relief. Following this I am supposed to do a 2x/wkly Miralax. Dr says I should never go more than 1-2 days w/o BM & my error was waiting too long before trying the MOM. The good news is I'm down 41 lbs, although they joked that once i have a BM it will be a more acurate & greater number. I'll keep you informed & hope this helps Others.

I had even done several enema's trying to give myself RELIEFFFFFF....... I KNEW I had a baby elephant in me............ I was miserable' date=' Even the Dr office said MIRALAX.......... PLEAASSSEEEEE............. that did NOT work on me.......... I gulped the cup that comes on top of the MOM bottle.............finally RELIEF!!!!!!!!!! BIG TIME.........I threw away the miralex....to me that is a joke........... Everyone is different, I took MOM several times months after until I could get normal movements.. Keep the NEWBIES POSTED as this is a HOT TOPIC! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />[/quote']

MOM doesn't do a thing for me. Had two capfuls yesterday and still nothing! We're talking 7 days w/no BM. I feel miserable. Surgery date: 6-10-13.

  10. I just went to Wal-Mart to try to get some Protein stuff I could barely walk and by the end of 15 minutes almost passed out.

My bosses wants me to come back to work on Monday and I thought I was ready but if I can't even walk 15 minutes in Wal-Mart I don't think I could take an I hour shift doing treadmill test to patients

I had my VSG 6-10-13 and just came back to work today 7-15-13 for a total of 5 weeks off. I'm so glad I gave myself the time (which my NP recommended by the way) because a pattern I am rectifying is self neglect, overdoing and not listening to my body. It wasn't until about 3 days ago that I began actually eating real food and adequately drinking fluids which makes all the difference energy and stamina wise. Be gentle with yourself. Your body has undergone a traumatic surgery. Practice loving kindness.

    All the best,

    Rosie

  11. There are officially 55 days left of summer... 7 weeks and 5 days until Labor Day... How much weight will "fall" off you before we fall into Autumn?

By September 2nd I want to lose 11.8lbs.... I am hoping I am able to do this... Initially I wanted to challenge myself to be at 165lbs by my birthday which is Sept 5th... But I don't think I will make that and my birthday isn't really a national Holiday that everyone here can join me in the countdown till' date=' so I figured we could do this Labor Day Challenge and cheer each other on![/quote']

  13. I've learned my lesson!!

Just got back from the hospital about an hour ago.

I was sleeved on April 17th. I have not had any problems with loosing weight. ( Thanks be to God)

Since loosing weight hasn't been a problem I figured it was time for a treat.

I've been eating about a cup of some mixed popcorn (Carmel' date=' yellow cheese and white cheese) for the last 3 days.

On Mondays's and Tuesday's my job provides us with lunch. Usually I have some Water with my salad, but yesterday I decided it was time for another treat I had a 7up (fooling my self since it said DIET)

Clearly I was not fooling this sleeve. Also last night my grand baby loves Lucky Charms so passing by the pantry before I went to bed I decided to grab a handful.

Around 10 I started feeling gas pains. I took a gasX. Went to sleep, my cramping woke me up around 3am. I grab 2 gasX because these cramps were more intense than before I went to sleep.< /p>

I decided to go sit on the toilet, nothing happen. Crawled back in the bed kept squirming because of the pains. I went to the toilet again.

I was starting to moan by this time, now squirming on the toilet, grabbing the small trash can in the bathroom dry heaving. By this time my husband woke up to come see about me. He grabbed a small towel wet it and came to wipe my face. I was so HOT!

No relief at all..I started sweating like crazy. I had to take off all my clothes. I've never drip sweated before. I got off the toilet and lied on the cold tile. My husband was freaking out telling me to get up asking what's wrong. I couldn't even talk. I was so weak i didn't care what kind of business I would do right there on the floor. Finally I said we have to go to the hospital, I've been food poison.

The 15 minute ride to the hospital was terrible. I tried to focus on other things, my husband actually ran a red light.

Imagine the check in at the ER.

Before I could be taken to a bed I had to get to a toilet immediately. There goes the bad cramp with a gush. I was dry heaving at the same time. The smell was Horrible my husband was in there with me and I had to keep telling him to flush for me because the smell was making me more sick.

I started feeling a little relief . They gave me a shot of morphine and zofran.

I'm home with a sore sour stomach.

    My God![/quote']

Mrs ALl the EXACT same thing happened to me AND I passed out! It was horrific. And all I had eaten different (from yogurt, Protein shakes, soft cheese) was watermelon. I thought I would die. It really makes one mindfull of how sensitive and delicate our new tummies are. I am 4 Wks out of surgery today, down 37lbs and really paying attention. This is no joke. I'm just so grateful for my sleeve. These seemingly innocuous 'treats' are poison and your tummy sent you a serious reminder. After my dumping episode (didn't go to ER) I was afraid to ingest anything. I am listening closely and every day gets better and better. I wish you all the best.

  14. I found that it was right after I ate. My first attempt to eat Peanut Butter and Egg Salad' date=' after I ate it my stomach began to feel a little queasy and a weird feeling in my mouth. So far, that is the only bad reaction I have had from eating....**knock on wood**[/quote']

I had a horrific response to 2 slivers of watermelon. Very small slices, so easy to go down and chocked full of Water. I thought it was fine until I broke out into cold sweat, dizziness, heart palpitations, SEVERE abdominal pain, dry heaves and diahrea. I actually collapsed to the ground and just prayed to be put out of my misery. This lasted 1/2 hr or so. I just thank God my husband was there. I think my body was reacting to the very high sugar content. But I know this: never again! My nutritionist says VSG Pts can and do experience dumping and these are all the symptoms. Our stomachs are VERY delicate and this is no joke. By the way I was sleeved June 10th and am supposed to be eating soft food. Any other similar experiences out there?

  15. I was sleeved early Monday 6-10-13. My only challenge was nausea. I am up and about sipping and walking, feeling well. Not even interested in my weight right now. Just following directions to insure continued success. It did feel a bit strenuous this morning walking my dog. Who knew a 6 lb chiquaqua pulling at a leash would be engaging stomach muscles. Lol
