    Friggin Steri-Strips

The scar under my bra line is bothering me a bit, I tried to wear an underwire bra yesterday (14 days out), boy that was a mistake! My steri stip fell off yesterday.

    Social Events

The day before my surgery I sat at a fancy banquet table at my husband's christmas party with a group of people, some I knew and some I didn't, and watched everyone eat a prime rib dinner while I sipped on Perrier. I didn't feel deprived but I think people wondered why I wasn't eating? It felt kind of odd.

    Squash heart burn?

Bland squash soup gave me heartburn. Who'da thought?

    How bad is the nausea?

I had nausea for 5 days. Had surgery Monday, couldn't keep down water until the following Saturday.

    Immediate dry heaving?

I couldn't keep down a PPI in pill form, I had to have a liquid. Good luck to you!
  7. Awesome! I had lobster bisque that I ran thorough the vitamix for dinner. I'm eating about half a cup, I don't feel "full" but I am satisfied, Do you know how much soup we're supposed to eat at one sitting?
  8. I did have some issues due to my anatomy. I had my sleeve done on 12/16. By 12/17 I could not keep down fluids. After a barium swallow, I was scoped and a small hernia was found (might have given that to myself because I vomited that morning) and it a good deal of scar tissue was discovered in my esophagus caused by years of acid reflux, scar tissue that had accumulated for quite some time. The docs had NO way of knowing that would be there. I had never had a single symptom of acid reflux. The surgeons are on top of things, they know what they're doing. You're hiring professionals at the top of their game - extra cost or not please trust their judgment. It is worth every penny! They took immediate action and I couldn't be more grateful.
  9. What a tremendous change! You look great!
  10. Fantastic idea Mary Lou. I can relate, my doctor wanted me to lose 14 lbs and I was worried it wouldn't come off. I lost about 3 lbs before my official pre op diet started. I managed to lose another 18 during the actual pre-op diet. I started at 280. A few other things I did months before I had my surgery were I started taking a multi Vitamin, quit drinking with and after my meals, and cut out soda and caffeine.
  11. I am 9 days out. For the first five days post surgery I couldn't keep anything down. Turns out the crushed antacid didn't work for me. I needed a liquid. Once I took a liquid (ryopan) problem solved. I swear the heavens opened. Good luck, I feel for you.

    2nd day of liquid diet

You're correct, the pre-op diet is very challenging. Think of where you'll be in a year! Take it day by day, hour by hour if needed. Something that saved me was instant miso Soup - was a nice contrast to the sweet shakes. It can be found in the asian section of the grocery store.
  13. Merry Christmas everyone! I am now 9 days out from my surgery at OCC and feeling great! As of Monday I'm down 25 lbs - 18 pre-op and 7 in the week post-op. I must say, I am so impressed with the care I received at OCC. I had a few bumps (due to my own anatomy) but the care was truly top notch. I had my sleeve done on 12/16. On 12/17 I was not keeping down any fluids. I had a barium swallow test, nothing was going down and I was feeling quite nauseous. I had already vomited that morning. The surgeons were right on top of it - they took me into the OR, scoped me and repaired a small hernia (quite possible I gave it to myself my throwing up that morning) and removed scar tissue that had formed inside (and maybe around?) my esophagus from years of acid reflux. I didn't even know I had acid reflux! The only symptom I had (in hindsight) was a chronic cough for a few years. Dr. Ortiz told me the cough was from acid reflux. The scar tissue and swelling from surgery was preventing water from going down. After the second procedure I was still struggling to keep fluids down. I had a swallow test every day and I was healing normally. We changed our plane tickets from Thursday to Friday at Dr. Ortiz' request. I was discharged from OCC Wednesday evening. When I got to the hotel, I'd take 3 tiny sips each 10 minutes apart and after sip 3 it would come back up. I emptied the PPI pill into my drink, as soon as those crystals hit my stomach I was sick. By Friday I was pretty worried as I was SO thirsty. I had gained 13 lbs of fluid between the two procedures so dehydration was not an issue. Dr. So told me on Friday that my sleeve looked totally normal and everything was passing but dang! I could not get the nausea under control! He gave me a liquid PPI (Ryopan). I didn't take it while I was traveling because I was afraid it would make me even sicker. When I got home I took it about 8:00. By 3:00 a.m. on Saturday I could finally keep down fluids! That liquid PPI was a lifesaver! I haven't had a problem keeping anything down since and I've been feeling better and better every day. I went back to work yesterday. My difficulties had more to do with my own anatomy and I was told my scar tissue build up was unusual. Thanks everyone for your support before and after. Reading accounts of others was super helpful as I prepared for my own procedure. Adoptivemom, HAF, Coopspa and Kindle - it was so great meeting you all! I hope you are all healing and enjoying your holiday!
  14. I had too much stomach acid and had the slimes for 5 days post surgery. Acid lessened=slime gone.
  15. Good luck thicvic, you'll do great!
  16. I just had my surgery at OCC as well and also did not use the Enspira products. I used Premier Protein from Costco, I spent about $75.00 for 54 ready to drink shakes. When I received my pre-op diet via e-mail it included the (preferred) Enspira plan as well as a Plan 2 for non Enspira products. When I had my visit with the nutritionist she wanted me on the Enspira products post-op but I politely declined and it didn't seem to be an issue. I work 12 hour days so a ready to drink product works best for me.

    Bleeding

Same thing happened to me. Period started during pre op and again 2 days after surgery.
  18. What a great idea for a girls night, you look fantastic!

almost 3 weeks post op sleeve

I'm 4 days post op and wasn't keeping ANYTHING down fluid wise, or my meds. I took a liquid antacid last night and it is a godsend. I couldn't keep the tablets down.
  20. Kindle, so glad you're on the sleeved side! Isn't it a relief to finally be through the procedure? You are doing great, I couldn't drink at all post surgery. Sleep seems to be a problem for me too since surgery, maybe it has something to do with anesthesia? We got home last night sometime after 8. Before I left the clinic Dr. So gave me a liquid ppi (ryopan) because I couldn't keep the powder from the capsules down. Magic I tell you! I waited until I got home to take it in case it made my nausea worse. It did not, now I'm keeping down crystal light. I feel much better about hydration now.

Starving on this 2 week liquid

I was really worried about my pre op diet too, but I got through it and yes, it was a challenge. I did better than I thought I would! I lost 18 lbs. My very last day I actually forgot to drink my last shake. I'm 4 days post op and I can tell you for sure - I could care less about food now! I'd give anything to not feel so thirsty.
  22. HAF, Coopspa, Kindle, it was great meeting all of you!! We're home now. I took a liquid ppi that Dr. So gave me, here's hoping it helps me keep something down.
  23. You are not alone. I was sleeved 12/16, on 12/17 I was taken back into surgery to fix a hiatal hernia and to remove scar tissue from around my esophagas. Apparently I've had an acid problem for a few years and didn't even know. I am feeling the same as you and honestly - I'm a little frightened by it all. I am not keeping down fluids at all. I take in two tiny sips within a 20 minute time frame and back up it comes. I am SO thirsty. If I could get a grip on the nausea and keep some Fluid down I wouldn't be so worried. My surgeon said my sleeve looks totally normal and I am recovering nicely but I don't feel like it.

    1 month post op scare

2 days out and I'm not keeping anything down yet. Not even water. Had a hernia repaired too which I was not expecting.
  25. I'm back at the Marriott, I needed to stay 2 nights at the clinic rather than one. Long story but all is well and everything was handled quickly and professionally. I am recovering (from 2 surgeries) and on the loser's bench! Turns out I had a hiatal hernia and they went in after the fact to fix it. I had no idea I even had one.
