  1. I just had my drain removed yesterday and I feel like a new woman. My drain had a safety pin on the plastic loop clip part. My hospital gave me a lanyard and told me to clip it to the lanyard when showering. I clipped it to my pants or shirt to get through the days. I swear it was like instant recovery when they removed it. I can even eat and drink more now. It gets better.

Got mine out today. You were exactly right about the feeling, I feel set free! The lanyard was a great idea. I finally figured out to take one of my rubber band type head band and put it around my neck and pinned it while I was in the shower. I just safety pinned it to my underwear the rest of the time. Came home and put on some comfy/stretchy shorts that came in (Zulily) since my surgery. Feeling spunky!!!

  2. I am not a sweets person at all! It's starting to make me sick. I ordered unjury chicken Soup online and unflavored Protein. Go google Unjury Protein. It was 50 for those two canisters. The chicken Soup has 21 g or protein and ill add the unflavored to other things I like.

I haven't had much luck with the unflavored. It has "the smell". Tried it in orange Jello. Could get it down but wasn't crazy about it. Love the chicken soup flavor though.

  3. My experience so far is if I can smell the Protein I am going to have trouble getting it down or if I can choke it down it will make me feel yucky for a while afterwards. I actually like the things I listed and hope that they might help someone else. I wish there were more savory choices. I am about tired of sweet taste. Part of my issue too is that I live in a rural area so I have either ordered my protein powders off the Internet or gotten it from the doctor's office. I also put a few drops of imitation banana flavoring in the banana cream shake before I got the SF pudding and that was not good to me. I could drink it but it was not an enhancement! Good luck!

  4. So u took Jello or pudding and put it into the Protein shake? If so' date=' was it in powder form or already made?[/quote']

I put one teaspoon of the pudding/Jello in the shake mixed it up and put them in the fridge the night before. I put SF orange Jello in the orange cream shakes, SF banana cream Jello pudding mix in the banana shakes (also put it in the chocolate and it was pretty good), and put 1 teaspoon SF chocolate pudding with the chocolate shakes. The orange tastes like an orange dreamsicile and the other like pudding. I won't do it later on when I have to be careful about calories but right now it helps getting through these 14 days of liquid on top of the 10 days before surgery. Those three Protein Shakes are from my doctor's office and are Bariatric Advantage brand. I also like the chicken Soup flavor from unjury. I worried about the shakes pre-op more than anything else. Had a hard time figuring out what I could have because many of them did not agree with me. To bump up calories/protein I mixed it with the 60 calorie Silk milk. I also mixed it with Greek yogurt. I will have to be careful later on but right now my calorie count is still really low since that is almost all I am having but will have to watch it later on. Hope this helps!

  5. I want to fit into some old clothes! I've been pulling out my old cute ones and giving them the eye.

I have some hanging at the entrance of my closet so I see them when I open the door. Had a friend that came Monday night she brought food for my family and a size 16 inspiration little black dress for me. She had WLS 10 years ago so she knew the absolutely PERFECT gift. I thought it was awesome!

  6. Hash browns

    Substitute: Squash for potatoes

Summer squash (the football-shaped yellow kind) tastes similar to potatoes when cooked—but has just a fraction of the carbs. Grate the squash' date=' mix in an egg as binder, make patties, and fry them in olive oil, says Mary Dan Eades, M.D., co-author of The Low-Carb Comfort food Cookbook.

Carbs eliminated: About 15 grams (g) per hash-brown patty

The taste: "Not as firm and crispy as regular hash browns, but the potato flavor is there."

    Mashed potatoes

    Substitute: Cauliflower for potatoes

One of Dr. Agatston's favorites: Steam some fresh or frozen cauliflower in the microwave. Then spray the cauliflower with butter substitute, add a little nonfat half-and-half substitute, and puree in a food processor or blender. "Salt and pepper to taste and you've got something that quite honestly can compete with the real thing any day," says Dr. Agatston. To make it even better, try adding roasted garlic, cheese, or sour cream to the mixture.

Carbs eliminated: 30 g per cup

The taste: "After a couple of bites, you forget it's not potatoes."

    Lasagna

    Substitute: Zucchini slices for noodles

Slice four to five medium-size zukes lengthwise into 3/4-inch-thick strips, instructs Lise Battaglia, a New Jersey chef whose past clients include Jon Bon Jovi. Sprinkle Italian seasoning on the strips, place them in a single layer on a nonstick cookie sheet, and bake at 425 degrees F for 20 minutes. You want them firm, not crisp. "Then simply make the lasagna as you normally would, replacing lasagna noodles with the baked zucchini," she says.

Carbs eliminated: 36 g per serving

The taste: "Delicious. The zucchini provides texture that you don't get from noodles alone."

    Spaghetti

    Substitute: Spaghetti squash for spaghetti

A cooked spaghetti squash is like Mother Nature's automatic spaghetti maker — the flesh becomes noodle-like strands. "All you have to do is cut the squash in half and remove the seeds. Then place each half — cut side down — on a plate with a quarter cup of Water," says Elizabeth Perreault, a chef at Colorado's Culinary School of the Rockies. Nuke the squash for 10 minutes or until it's soft to the touch. Let it cool, then scrape out the "spaghetti" strands and top with Pasta sauce and cheese.< /p>

Carbs eliminated: 30 g per cup

The taste: "Great. Spaghetti squash has exactly the same consistency as real pasta."

    pancakes

Substitute: oatmeal and cottage cheese for pancake mix

Here's a can't-fail recipe from The South Beach Diet. Mix together half a cup of old-fashioned oatmeal, a quarter cup of low-fat cottage cheese, two eggs, and a dash each of vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Process in a blender until smooth. Cook the mixture like a regular pancake.< /p>

Carbs eliminated: 45 g per pancake

The taste: "With Syrup, you could never tell the difference."

    Scalloped potatoes

    Substitute: Tempeh for potatoes

You may think you don't like soy-based foods, but that could be because you don't cook them right, says Beckette Williams, R.D., a San Diego-based personal chef. "Tempeh can be really bland, but if you jazz it up with herbs and spices, it's a great substitute for potatoes." Her recommendation: Saute a couple of cups of thinly diced tempeh with garlic and onions. Then pour a cheese sauce (sharper is better) over the tempeh cubes and bake for half an hour.

Carbs eliminated: 11 g per cup

The taste: "Just like a slightly nutty baked potato."

    macaroni and Cheese

    Substitute: Diced vegetables for macaroni

Even instant mac and cheese can go lower-carb; use only half the Pasta in the box and bulk it up with a couple of cups of frozen mixed vegetables, says Sandra Woodruff, R.D., co-author of The Good Carb Cookbook.

Carbs eliminated: 13 g per cup

The taste: "I hate broccoli, but I wouldn't mind eating this."

    Pasta salad

Substitute: Mixed vegetables or black Beans for half the pasta

Same idea as the mac and cheese, but try black Beans, diced tomatoes, and chunks of ham, tuna, chicken, or hard-boiled eggs, suggests Richard Ruben, an instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City. "These kinds of salads are a blank slate, so you can top them with anything from a creamy blue-cheese dressing to vinaigrette, or even lime juice and slices of avocado," Ruben says.

Carbs eliminated: 10 g per cup

The taste: "Awesome. I don't miss the extra pasta at all."

    Cheese-flavored chips

Substitute: Low-fat string cheese for chips

Just crazy enough to work: Cut sticks of string cheese into quarter-inch-thick slices and scatter the rounds on a cookie sheet coated with nonstick spray, leaving them an inch or two apart. Bake at 375 degrees F for 4 to 5 minutes or until the cheese melts and turns golden brown. Let them cool, then peel the chips off the tray.

Carbs eliminated: Up to 90 g per serving

The taste: "Like the cheese you pull off the top of a pizza."

    pizza

Substitute: Portobello mushrooms for Pizza Crust

Cut the gills out of the inside of the mushroom, says Ruben, "then place the mushroom on an oiled cookie sheet and bake for 5 to 10 minutes so it dries out slightly." Add Tomato sauce, mozzarella, and pepperoni or other toppings and broil until the cheese begins to melt.

Carbs eliminated: About 20 g per slice

The taste: "Like pizza, but moister. Give me a fork!"

    Beef-a-Roni

    Substitute: Eggplant for pasta

Mixing diced eggplant with ground beef is healthier and more highbrow than this old skillet special — call it moussaka American style. You have to soften the eggplant first, says Williams. Cut it in half, brush it with olive oil, and then broil for 10 to 20 minutes. "Let it cool, dice it up, and mix with hamburger, tomato sauce, and spices," she says.

Carbs eliminated: 26 g per cup

The taste: "Exactly like Hamburger Helper, in a good way."

    Sandwiches

Substitute: Napa or Chinese cabbage for bread

Slap your turkey and Swiss onto a leaf of cabbage and roll it up. "I've made some great-tasting BLTs using cabbage instead of bread," Battaglia says. Dip the roll in low-fat Mayonnaise or mustard.

Carbs eliminated: 29 g per sandwich

The taste: "Better than eating plain cold cuts."

  7. I'm doing okay. I thought being a 8 days out I would feel even better' date=' but unfortunately I am struggling with muscle spasms which my doctor has me on flexeril for. Also having trouble staying hydrated due to frequent episodes of diarrhea after I eat or drink

Anything. I'm sorry if that's too much info for you. How are you?[/quote']

I am doing really good. I went to the massage therapist yesterday because I had gotten a knot in my neck from the hospital bed and sleeping in the recliner the first night home. She had a chair I got on so it didn't put any pressure on my stomach and it was heavenly. I recommend it especially if you were going before and the massage therapist knows what is going on with you. I swear it also helped get rid of the last of my gas pains too. Hope you get to feeling better.

I keep reading about everyone being constipated and like you I am having diarrhea. Don't know if they are talking about a different stage than we are in but I am NOT constipated.

  8. Glad you are feeling some better! I had my drain come out before I left the hospital' date=' my follow up is Friday as well!

Sent from my iPad using VST[/quote']

Glad you got yours taken out before you left. I am thinking about what I can make to hang it on while in the shower. I have two friends that are looking to be sleeved in July and I am trying to think of things to get for them to make it more pleasant. Already been giving Protein supplement advice. I have found that 1 teaspoon of sugar free pudding or Jello in some of them can change your whole attitude! Plus some of the savory choices.

  9. Weight loss gets rid of the fat but doesn't change your body type. I will ALWAYS be short waisted and big-butted/extremely hippy. I lose weight from the top of my head down to the top of my thighs. (Luckily I have very pretty calves) You can focus on the negatives but to what end? I am celebrating my face not being such a marshmallow, I am excited that shirts are fitting better and know that it will be a long time before the butt/hips give me any satisfaction at all. Try to find things about yourself that you like. For me it is my calves and my nose, which may be weird but everybody has to find their thing to get them through.

  10. I have one, I am supposed to have it taken out Friday which will be one week for me. I can't WAIT to get it out. Worst part is when taking a shower there isn't anything to pin it to and it just hangs which feels weird. Thinking about getting something to hang around my neck to pin it to during shower time. Maybe I will make it cute and put it on Pinterst!

  11. I had mine on the 21st. Was dismissed by the doctor early in the morning but didn't get out of there until 3:00pm. It was Saturday and the hospital had just switched to a new computer system that week so I feel like that was why. I had great care and I am feeling great. How are you getting along? Any troubles?

  12. Surgery day was my worst day. Once the anesthesia started wearing off I started feeling great. Glad to know the hiccough thing is normal. I think it is everything moving around. Sneezed night before last and that was a treat! Will do my best to make sure that doesn't happen again for a while. Did anyone else come home with the jb drain? I get it taken out Friday and can't wait! I started to say it was a pain but thought that could be taken wrong so I will be more specific and say it is aggravating. Glad that is all I have to complain about!

  13. I was sleeved the 21st. So far so good. The gas pains were rough but since I had been reading about them on here knew it was temporary and didn't let it get to me. Finally started pooting last night. I wanted to cheer! Got home yesterday still have drain (yuck!!!!) can't wait to get it out. For those that are waiting I can't tell you how much better it has been than I ever thought it could be. Keep a positive attitude, that will help a lot.

  14. Praying for all of you going into surgery today. So excited for all of us. I am starting to feel empowered and like I am getting control back. Trying to appreciate these last two days before my new life starts. The only thing I am anxious about is having to drink the magnesium citrate tomorrow night. Otherwise I feel like a kid and want to start packing my overnight bag. Grateful to God for His many and wonderful blessings!
