septappt got a reaction from stacyrg2 in Twin Cities Marathon
Honestly I run first thing in the morning, so 9 times out of 10 I haven't eaten anything or I'll have a quick Protein Shake. On my long runs I will eat 2-3 Gummy bears every 3 miles ! Just don't eat the sugar free ones ....lol ! Everyone is different, just experiment with different things to find out what works for you ! As far as your eating, I'm sure that will be hard seeings you're still in the honeymoon phase! My nut just had me up my calories by 200 on the days I was doing my long runs, my suggestion to you is don't just run, do some strength training too! I'm running the Pittsburgh half next month, this will be my second half and I can't wait! Enjoy and keep going, you got this, good luck and be strong !

septappt got a reaction from mtraverse in Percentage lost
I have lost 87% of my excess weight ! I'm just under two years post. I lost probably 80% of that in the first year alone. I've been maintaining now for about 8 months. I still personally would like to lose 18 more pounds but I'm not pressing the issue at this point. I will get there eventually!

septappt reacted to Engteacher in Vitamins made me puke!
I'm 7 weeks out and had a lot of trouble with bariatric Vitamins. In the hospital, they gave me Flintstone chewables, and they went down much easier. I've been using them ever since. I've tried to go back to bariatric ones, but they still make me gag. Maybe if I tried to chew half at a time it would be better. Anyway, the Flintstone work for me, so that's my go-to for the time being.
Hope this helps. All the best!

Yes try the meat roll ups, maybe you should try having a shake for Breakfast instead of the sausage patty! I don't eat a lot of meat either but I do make sure I have a Protein Shake for when I don't believe I'm making my Protein intake ! Maybe start over with the basics, liquids for 1 week, don't give up, stay strong!

septappt reacted to CowgirlJane in Epic NSV - even all these years out it was boost
Some of you know me well as I have been around a long time... but for back story I was pretty hopeless about losing weight and especially maintaining it when I began this sleeve journey. I had "failed" with the lapband in an epic way and by the time I revised to the sleeve I was well over 300# (although down from my lifetime recorded high of 332# while banded). I was super morbidly obese and spent a lot of years there. I felt aged beyond my years and besides feeling physically miserable, I was certainly NOT an object of attention from the opposite gender. Hell, i never even had a chubby chaser interested in me.
(I did have a serious relationship, I have never been a loner, but my point is I have always been one to focus on intelligence and personality, not looks or body)
Because of my active lifestyle, I have mostly had slender friends even when I was obese. I never went out for girls night with them, never went dancing, I felt like I didn't belong in those settings. So, after losing a bunch of weight, I had plastics and am now maintaining. I social with lots of people now and feel like i fit in many places, but am still sometimes surprised at my own preconceived notions.
Currently, I am about 5# over my goal and about 25# over my lowest weight - I am 3.5 years post sleeve so this is frankly pretty typical. It can get a little discouraging as I am having a heck of a time re-losing this weight. I am fine at my current size, but i was finer thinner haha... so it is still something I want. You know how your state of mind is when your favorite jeans are too tight.... that is where i am!
Okay, now my NSV Story!
I went out to the racetrack on the 3rd for a big girls day of races and fireworks. I went with 3 very attractive ladies who are all naturally very trim. They range from tiny cute as a pixie (Which also makes her look really young) to that tall blond skinny model look (two of those, one fairly boyish looking the other more curvy - both very very attractive). Anyway, all 4 of us are unloading the cooler, doing stuff getting ready to go in. I was applying sunscreen. this really really really attractive man - probably about 40 (we are all about 50) walks by and looks right at me and smiles and says "need any help with that?". All of us freeze as it processes... he is talking to ME! What? I smiled at him as he walked away (it was only later I thought I should have said "YES") and one of the ladies said "this is going to be a good day".
I don't spend alot of time comparing myself to others, I really don't. But after a lifetime of obesity, super morbid obesity - you never expect to be the one in your group of attractive friends to get the notice.
Looks don't actually matter that much - one of the ironies i have learned in this journey, but it still felt good and my friends were all very happy for me too... That also makes me feel good that they are so pleased with my successes.

I normally stay out of drama on this board but this really bothered me. This is a place of support. Not a place to make fun of others. People won't want to open up and ask questions if they feel like they're going to be judged instead of helped. None of us were perfect or else we wouldn't have needed to have surgery.

the pouch test i not a permanent weight loss solution, but does help you feel your restriction, and if you are not good about getting in your Protein, it helps get you back on track.

If you only have 18 pounds until goal, you're already eligible for self-pay plastics. You should be within 15% of your goal weight before plastics. I was 153 when I had my first plastics procedure and I'm now bouncing 1-2 pounds around 126 a little under a year and 3 plastic surgeries later. My first surgery was an abdominoplasty and the results were so fantastic that it actually motivated me to keep losing.
The last few pounds are hard, but if your goal weight is only 18 pounds more, then you can consider your plastic surgery consults now. That may give you the extra burst of motivation you need to knock out those last few pounds.
Good luck!

septappt got a reaction from rhw94123 in Last 18 pounds
Okay, I'm almost two years out. I've hit the doctors goal and I am still trying to lose the last 18 for my goal. My highest was 280 and I'm now 183, I seem to fluctuate but never higher than 185. I'm really into running lately and currently training for a half marathon. I know my calories are higher but when running 10 miles, your body does need fuel ! Would it be worth a try to do the pouch test ?? I know everyone is different but I really wanna lose these last few not only to reach my goal but also to be able to have the skin removed around the mid-section !!

septappt reacted to LipstickLady in Gained most of my weight back
Absolutely! But YOUR truths do not apply to everyone. My experience is completely different than yours and I'd hate for anyone to think your behaviors/results/frustrations are typical.
I maintain easily on 1600-1800 calories a day. I eat mindfully, but I can have a daily indulgence without gain. I can workout without gaining. I can get on the scale daily and not fret about fluctuations. I've maintained for well over a year and belong to a FB group of about 40 "vets", most of whom have been sleeved longer than me, who have had similar experiences.
I've been reading your posts for years and have watched your struggles. I do not believe your journey is typical. Not to say you are wrong, but my posts are meant for the common reader as well as who I might be quoting.

septappt reacted to Stephannie in Had to share!
Well, today I had some Cereal for breakfast (Apple Jacks if I'm being honest) and for lunch I had one piece of Hawaiian pizza. I've not had dinner yet and not sure I will. Might just do a Protein Shake or bar. I lost the majority of my weight the first 6 months and have been between 105-116 in the last 6-7 months. I weigh every day which I know a lot of people are against but it holds me accountable. I do eat what I want, just in small portions. I don't work out. I have 5 kids, a hubby (my 6th kid) and a very demanding career. I think I would have better muscle tone and not be as "skinny" looking had I worked out but I just didn't want to and since the weight was coming off I decided not to over think it. I can't tell you how much it has changed my life. My career is better than ever, I participate with my kids, I love going places with my hubby and traveling and experiencing different things. It just doesn't get any better.

septappt reacted to LipstickLady in Best medication for gas relief
If you are talking about the gas that comes from the surgery itself, it's in your body cavity, it is not the kind of gas that is caused by food. GasX is popular, but the only thing that really works is walking it out.
Gas from food post op? GasX fo'shizzle.

septappt got a reaction from BellaLuce4 in Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
I'm one year out and I've lost 89% of my excess weight. Only 11 more pounds to go to 100%. I surpassed the doctors goal for me 30 pounds ago. Everyone is different. If your compliant then it works !! And I'm no angel by any means, but like a lot of you's we started this journey for a reason and I would like to say I actually accomplished something I set out to do !!

When I slack on probiotics, I get constipated. When I take them regularly, my bowels are happy
