  1. I still feel hunger just not the way I did before surgery.. it's never extreme but it does occur. I was hoping I'd n ever feel that feeling again but really' date=' most people seem to feel some sorta of physical hunger after surgery. A lot of the time too, it's head hunger. We got fat for a reason and that feeling of wanting to eat all the time doesn't leave us. Also, are you taking an antacids? Stomach acid can mimic the signs of hunger especially if you have an abundance of stomach acid.[/quote']

Yes I am taking an acid reducer. I also was hoping to never feel hunger again but it's still there especially around my period, and that hunger can last for two weeks! It sucks! That is why I drink Water to see if it's head hunger. I'm a work in progress, speaking of that it's time for me to walk on the treadmill! :)

  2. My hair is shedding like crazy too! I still have enough hair on my head to make about 3 wigs' date=' though. lol. I really don't mind shedding cause my hair is super thick but I hope I don't end up with bald Patches like some people do. If you feel your loss is slow maybe you should get together with your NUT and have them look at your daily menu's to see if you're going wrong somewhere. 46 lbs is still a lot of weight to have lost in 3 months, be proud of that. This journey is not easy and staying on the wagon is extremely difficult. I was in a stall for about 2 weeks and I went back to basics for a week and it broke my stall. Maybe you should try that and see how your body reacts. Maybe you're taking in too much sugar or eating food that are not high in Fiber. There is something that a lot of ppl do also that keeps the metabolism going and keeps your body from getting used tot he same routine and it's called "Carb Cycling". A lot of people are finding them are losing faster when doing that. Good luck and hang in there![/quote']

I want to try do do liquid days and I have started to read about this "carb cycling" and I like the idea behind it so I'm going to start that tomorrow! Thanks for the idea! :) I also wanted to ask everyone, how often do you feel hunger? I feel like I can be fine for about 2 maybe 3 hours and then I start to feel hunger. Sometimes it will just hit me hard like I have to eat right now! I try to drink Water constantly and sometimes when I feel like I'm getting hungry I will drink Water to make sure I'm not just thirsty and it will help but not always.

  3. Okay. I'm three months out. My hair is shedding like crazy and my blood work looked okay but low in Iron. I lost 17 lbs the first month 10 lbs the second month and maybe around 5 lbs this last month. I'm squeezing into size 18s but 20s are huge on me. I haven't been working out or eating the way I should all the time and it's my fault I'm not losing like I should be I admit it but I'm working to change that. I am trying to stay around 1000 calories each day and actually food journaling. I walked for 25 minutes on my treadmill and found some other exercises I like to do. I am down about a total of 46 lbs since starting this journey and I'm not ready to throw in the towel so I'm asking for some inspiration. I feel like I let myself down to soon but I don't want to give up. Please let me know how everyone else is doing. :)

  4. Hello my vertically challenged friends. I would love to hear some updates on everyone's journey. I have lost slowly but that is fine with me as long as it is coming off. I am down a total of 50 pounds in 4 months. At first I was really into walking and exercising and now I have hit a not so active time. I have to get myself motivated to get moving. I'm not a lucky one with this surgery' date=' I have had to work to lose weight it just isn't falling off. So I need some words of wisdom. I have 50 more pounds to lose and need some encouragement. I have always been one to sabotage myself and seems like I'm doing it again. Anyone else having issues with this?[/quote']

I know what you mean. I'm loosing but slowly. When I had my surgery (July 26, 2013) I took off work for three weeks and walked everyday on my treadmill but now that I am back to work it's just to tiring to do often anymore. We also have been dealing with a family emergency this last week and have been spending the majority of our time at the hospital, now that things aren't as serious I have to get caught up on things at home and work. There just doesn't seem to be time for any exercise let alone grocery shopping! I go for my check up in a few days and I hope they can help answer a few questions about my energy levels so that I can get in more exercise. I'm only 2 months post op and only down 28 lbs, a total of 42 lbs if you count the liquid pre op diet. I think I lost 17 lbs my first month which means I've only lost 9 lbs the second month and I believe it's because, well this last week we have been eating hospital food and fast food and because I haven't been exercising like I should. I would love any advise as well and I'm willing to pass along what the doctors tell me. Good luck to you!

  5. I was sleeved on 7/9 lost 12 lbs preop

Date of surgery 233 I am now 203 total of 42 lbs lost. I cant wait to see a number under 200. I believe I could be doing better but with my busy schedule I've not fit in exercise as much as I should. However I follow my food plan MOST days lol not always perfectly' date=' but im happy! Its a journey and I dont want to be so strict that I don't enjoy it. Ive wasted enough of my life worrying and being miserable. I got a second chance and im living now! God bless us all and our new healthier lifestyle![/quote']

I understand about the exercise! When I was off work for three weeks I was able to do it everyday now that I'm back to working I'm so exhausted when I get home! I also have MS and have been going through some crazy pain which further stops me from exercising. I have fallen off my doctors meal plan at times also and I blamed that on being busy so I'm working on that now. I find it hard to get my six meals squeezed in while I work and don't want to just eat what is there. This is what I'm working on now and meal planning. I even tried looking at frozen meals to take to work but decided that I wasn't paying the $ for Adkins meals and all others were o full of carbs. So I have bought some pre made bacon strips, turkey slices, and lettuce to make wraps for this weeks lunches and I will throw in some Protein shakes for my snack, have a snack when I get home, make dinner and have my snack later. This is the first week I'm trying this so wish me luck! I think there isn't anything wrong with being busy it just requires me to plan better! Good luck to you as well! :) this is my second chance and I'm not going to blow it!

  6. I was sleeved 3/22 and I'm down 27 lbs post-op with a total loss of 45 lbs. I'm sorta at another stall as well' date=' scale wise but my clothes are also literally starting to fall off so I don't let the numbers distract me. I also measure myself once a month. I'm not due for another week or so to do it but 4 wks after surgery I was down over 10 inches overall. I have also went from a size 24 to a size 18. I went into Lane Bryant a few days ago to try on a military jacket and was convinced that the size 20 would fit. Was so happy to see how huge it was on me. My scars are healing well. One of them was slightly infected but that's because it's the incision that sits directly under my bra line but it's all healed up now. They are still a purple color, though. Going to look into some scar cream.[/quote']

I haven't gone to buy new clothes but have tons bagged up ready to donate to goodwill. I don't know exactly what size I am because I held onto a lot of my clothes after I had gained weight and I am getting back into them now, it's like a whole new wardrobe! I believe I may have stretched out my size 20s and wore them when I was really a size 22 so they are huge and my size 18s can go either way be loose or snug depending on who made them. I haven't done my measurements since I went to the doctor and I don't go back until October so I'm hoping for a happy surprise! Also as for the scale, I think I am still retaining Water, it was something I had problems with before surgery and some days are better than others and I try my hardest to keep drinking as much as possible to help since I can't take my Water pill anymore. As for my scars now that mine are closed I also want to try a scar cream. I know they will fade in time but when I see them they look terrible! I wasn't expecting to feel this way about them but they are ugly and I just want them to fade.

  7. How is everyone doing with their weight loss? I have lost a total of 23 lbs post op and my surgery was 7/26 but I have stalled for the last couple weeks and I can't wait to lose more. One thing I have noticed was that even though the scale stopped moving my clothes are getting huge! :) I was also wondering how everyone's incision scars are healing. Mine are still really bright, hard, and slightly tender.

  8. Thanks! Very good read' date=' I am on day three of pre-op diet just liquid and Protein shakes. I am hungry but hanging in there. I have lost 5 pounds too. So anyway it is a start....counting the days until 8/27/2013![/quote']

I'm a month post- op and just beginning my puréed foods because of the program I'm with which means I have been on liquids for about a month and a half. It does get better! Hang in there!

  9. I need some advice. I lost 18lbs my first 10 days. Since that time I haven't lost anything. I am eating between 300 to 500 calories a day. Not quite getting all my Protein in. Usually get about 35 to 50. I am getting all my Water in. Ideas?

Honestly that doesn't sound like a lot of calories. You may have your body stuck in starvation mode. Have you spoke to your doctor yet?

  10. I was sleeved July 29th and on purée/liquid diet. I had the most painful experience last week and thought I should share so no one else has to go through the same thing. Last week' date=' I had what i thought was a stitch in my side, under my rib cage that started to get worse into the evening, then the pain moved to the center of my chest, bottom of my sternum and hot worse and worse. i felt like i couldnt breathe properly. it got so bad my hubby started driving me to hospital. it got crazy painful. i was literally delirious with pain. I was screaming, crying, begging for some relief. It felt like hot lava was spilling intoy stomach. I thought for sure I had a leak in my sleeve. 2 doses of morphine and i could feel relief. They think something was stuck that was irritating the opening of the sleeve which was already tender for op, then had an esophageal spasm trying to get whatever was stuck down. After my sleeve, In the hospital they were giving me puréed fruit so I thought I was ok to continue on with puréed food at home. My husband made me lots of puréed vegetable Soup. In one of the Soups there was the tiniest bit of carrot in it, a quarter the size of my pinky nail. It was very soft, so I thought it would be gone, I chewed it as much as I could and it seemed to go down fine. I thought I was progressing so well that I'd be able to eat scrambled eggs the following week. Boy was I wrong! Back to just liquids this week and after a few days the stitch feeling went away. Onto purée this week. Bit disapointed I'm not progressing as much as I thought. But never ever want to go through that again![/quote']

Oh wow! I'm sorry you had so much trouble! I was sleeved on the 26th and had to have an emergency surgery later that day because of bleeding but I haven't had any other issues. However the program and hospital require that I stay on full liquids for 5 weeks to allow more time for healing. I haven't had the chance to eat anything yet and I have been going crazy wanting to eat food. Your story will help keep me on the doctors path! Thank you for sharing. I hope you feel better ASAP!

  11. Haha hotdog..it feels shaped like a banana to me?!?my cousin has vsg too also. My aunt and uncle.joke we have bananas for.stomaches. Except.shes pregnant..so they say an ultrasound looks like a banana on one side the baby on the other ..guess that is were the idea came.from..but i.think.in the hospital it looked like a hot dog during the barium test

Hahaha, I thought mine looked liked a string bean with a golf ball attached at the bottom during the barium swallow test!

  12. Lol! I live in Texas! But I'm from Oklahoma!

I will! I'm so sorry! I'm not still drinking out of the medicine cups' date=' but for some reason, I was afraid to take more than a very tiny sip at one time...so I've just been barely sipping out of my glass, knowing, I can comfortably drink more! And since I have heat exhaustion, I need to drink as much as I can! And it's hard when your afraid you're abt to blow your self apart![/quote']

I have heard that the Water is quickly absorbed by your body which is why it's easier to take it in. You won't rip your tummy open as long as you are not chugging it. With the heat exhaustion you need to focus on getting in as much as possible, I agree but go at a rate that is comfortable for you and stay cool. Have you tried setting a timer?

  13. This really helps me. I don't know why...but I guess having to start with the medicine cups and having the NO STRAW rule (is that still in force' date=' btw) and the general attitude of "TRY" (as if it would be difficult to get in 64 oz of h2o over the day, had me thinking I was drinking Water to quickly. I don't know. I have to find something to worry about! I guess I envision myself drinking too much and causing a terrible problem!

I guess I'm still sitting around taking little bird sips! I wanna take a regular drink! Lol![/quote']

I was using the medicine cups also in the beginning and could do more than 6 an hour but was told by the doctor to not go over that. Then earlier this week they told me to focus on getting my meals in ( Breakfast, lunch, dinner) and not to use the cups but drink from the water bottle and nothing during my meals or 1/2 hour before or after meals. They want me to focus on the routine of eating now. I still don't have a problem getting my fluids in. The doctors joked that with all the problems I had with the two surgeries (1 was the sleeve the other was an emergency because I was bleeding) this was the easy part for me. Where everyone else has problems swallowing and getting in their fluids it was easy for me and everyone else had a good surgery I had internal bleeding. You do what is best for you and if the medicine cups work stick with it. Try taking a slightly larger drink and see if you do okay. You may surprise yourself. Good luck!

  14. I was sleeved on July 31. I did really well w my surgery' date=' food progression to this point, pain, etc. except...I got overheated a couple of days and now I have heat exhaustion. It is reallllly hard to get ahead of when you can only sip water...I'm curious...how long does it take you to drink 4 or 8 oz of liquid at this point. Maybe I am being too cautious??? I don't want to spring a leak![/quote']

I have had problems with drinking. It doesn't take me long at all. Drink at whatever pace you are comfortable. What did your doctor say?

  15. Goodness, I feel like I was eating all day yesterday but of course I am still on full liquids so I know I really wasn't. I'm just glad Aunt Flo didn't make me as hungry as I used to get pre op. I also gained about 1/2 lb but I know it is Water weight. There are just some things that the sleeve doesn't help I guess so I will have to manage it on my own. Good luck ladies!
