  1. Another thread brought this to mind. I am having surgery next Tuesday and have resently realized a dilemma. All though my husband has scheduled two days off (one to be there for my surgery and the next to bring me home) he is unable to take anymore time off. I think I could manage on my own but he often works late into the night (A/C repair, in Texas) so he will not be able to pick our youngest up from daycare. We do not have anyone close that can pick him up for me. So, I'm sure you see the problem. Do I go against doctor's orders and drive a few blocks to pick him up or do I keep him home and try to stay consious enough to keep an eye on him (he's 3)? Anyone else drive before released? What about keeping eye on kiddos? What can I expect from either one of these? Thanks a head of time for your comments.
  2. My NUT actually told me that "they" say there is not dumping with the sleeve but there is some evidence that some people do experience dumping.
  3. I feel you on that. My parents also did not suport my decision initially. After trying to talk to them about it a few times I decided that I was a grown woman with a husband and kids and no longer needed mommy and daddy's approval. I didn't mention it again until they brought it up. They at that point either finally undersood or finally figured that it was my decision to make. With anyone else if they give me negtive feedback I tell them its my decision and I've made up my mind. Have my sleeve Aug 27. Good luckto you and I hope you get the support you need.
  4. I wish both of you luck on this. This is a major fear of my own. I'm pre-op still (Aug 27) and I've mentioned the fear to my husband and his comment was simply "what you planning on leavin me when you loose weight?" Actually the fear is the other way around. But I can already feel tention between myself and a close friend who had planned to have surgery with me but hasn't been able to financially. I can feel the walls go up when ever I mention the difficulty I'm having with pre-op diet or my fears of surgery. I have a feeling that friendship may not survive my transformation.
  5. Well that's interesting. I'll have to look into that. I'd love it to not have to deal with them.
  6. Guess I should have clarified. I'm not really concerned with the healing of it other than the possibility of developing an infection and the having surgery. I've never actually used an oral antibiotic to clear it before. I do put antibiotic ointment on the open sores to try to keep it from getting infected while its healing. I did go ahead and contact my surgeon and her nurse said it shouldn't affect my surgery. So, I guess just trying to get the sores to heal before then for the sake of comfort alone will be my focus then. I'd hate to have to deal with angry sores while in recovery. Thanks everyone for the input.
  7. I have my surgery on 8/27 so just over a week away. Historically I get fever blisters when ever I'm under a great deal of stress or worry. Of couse I've been both stressed and worried while getting prepared for my surgery date. So, the inevitable has happened. I have a monster of a fever blister just below my lower lip. I'm concerned with my surgery being 10 days away. Should I call my doctor and request an antibiotic just to be on the safe side? I am putting topical antiboitic on it now. I just dont want to take the chance of infection. What do you think?
  8. I haven't gotten to my liquid diet yet. 1.5 weeks pre-op. But I've been on my high protein/low carb pre-op diet for the last 2.5 weeks and I was feeling very nauseous last week. I started pushing more fluid and its helped a lot.
  9. So, the past couple days I've remembered why the majority of my "diets" never stuck. I'm currently on my pre-op diet of high protein/low carb I'm coming to the end of my second week and am so naseaus I can't even stomach the idea of food. Really don't like this feeling. I've gotten this way with every fad diet I've tried. I go in with all the best intentions then at about a week and a half to two weeks I start feeling yucky and the nausea sets in and sends me to my comfort foods. Then there goes the diet out the window. If it wasn't for the nausea I don't think this pre-op diet would be that bad. Please say it will pass soon and the next two weeks will not be miserable.
  10. The nutritionist said 2 weeks high protein/low carb then only Clear liquids the day before. But when I saw my doctor and what I thought was and accomplishment of 12 pounds down was not as much as she thought I needed to come down. So she said to start the high protein/low carb that day. That was a week and a half ago. After I got passed the first few days it hasn't been too hard. As long as I stay away from anyone that's eating sweets that is. I don't think I'd like 2 weeks of Fluid either.
  11. I'm scheduled for Aug 27th too. I'm nervous also. I'm keeping busy and trying to keep my mind off it. I'm focusing on the 4 weeks of pre-op diet the doctor has me on and that seems to be helping.
  12. Heating it up would probably make it more appealing. That I might be able to handle. The thought of it cold and shakey was a hard concept for me.
  13. I got a Magic Bullet to help with the puree stage and the kids are liking it when I put ice in and turn it into snow. Just add SF liquid of your choice and you have yourself an Icee.
  14. I'm pre-op but I got the sample pack from Unjury. Its about $22 and you get two packets of each (chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, chicken soup and unflavored) and a mixing bottle and thermometer) I really like them. The only one in the pack I haven't tried yet is the chicken soup one. I just haven't been able to wrap my head around the idea of a chicken flavored shake. I'll have to force myself to give it a try in the week or two. Have my surgery 8/27 and I hear people are liking it as a change from the sweet.
  15. Sleeping in will be nice but the thought of going that long with out even a sip of water is not appealing.
  16. Mine is at least 70 grams of lean protein and no more than 30 grams of carbs for 4 weeks. Then only clear liquids the day before. I'm trying hard but having problems keeping the carbs under 30. Just to have a cup of Almond milk is 4g carbs. I'm getting better every day though.
  17. Congrats. I'm Aug 27 too. Surgery time 2pm. Is it just me or does that time such or what?
  18. Surgery date is August 27. Also was told to start my pre-op diet today. Really wish I'd have had a few days to plan some meals before starting. Oh well. Guess I'll manage anyway.
  19. I also started my journey thinking I wanted the band. I watched online seminar and liked what I heard about the sleeve. But really I'm really picky about my doctors and the surgeon I chose will no longer do the band procedure. She said her reasoning was because too many of her patients were coming back to have a revision because they were not losing enough weight with it. So that made my mind up. I am hoping to have mine done by the end of August.
  20. I hope all goes well and you get your date quickly.
  21. I only told my boss and a couple coworkers. One is having the procxedure as well. As far as friends I told my two besties. Both could benefit from WLS too. One has been talking about doing it too but has yet to commit. The other I expected to be super supportive but was disappointed when she started lecturing me about making sure I've tried everthing else first (like I haven't). But what suprised me the most was my Mom. When I told her I was thinking about it she went off about the risk and if I just applied myself a little more I could do it on my own. After making two different attempts to talk to her about it I decided that I am 39 yrs old and do not need any ones approval and decided that I would not talk to her about it again. Then out of the blue she asked if I was still thinking about doing it. When I tentatively told her yes she said ok. Then shocker, she started asking questions. Not giving negative feed back just requesting information. She's been supportive ever since. As far as making an announcement I probably won't do it. As others have said every one has an opinion and will provide it if you want it or not. And in my case. I have family members on facebook that would love to gossip. No sense giving them the ammunition.
  22. I definately feel for you. I had anxiety over the idea of having an EDG. It does not sound fun at all. I was pretty lucky in my doctor did not feel the need to have me do any extra tests or studies. Just had to do the insurance required doctor supervised diet (insurance excepted my 5 years of failed Weight Watchers for this requirement) and mental health assessment. Then my doctor's requirement for everyone is the dietition consult, exercise consult, EKG and blood work.
  23. Thanks. I can't wait.
