I had a few different straws...The major one was that I was really over my life revolving around food. I would have just finished Breakfast and I would already be thinking about what I have for lunch and only really thinking about that. It felt like the food just ran my life, and I was over it. There are so many more important things to worry about and to occupy my mind with than food.

Things that I needed and used during hospital stay
    - sweat pants (couldn't change out of gown because of IV so I just put on pants lol)
    - cell phone
    - iPod
    - book
Things I wish I had during hospital stay
    - sleeping mask (to block out any extra light)
    - extra sleeping pillow
My surgery was on a Tuesday morning, I didn't leave until Wednesday at around 6ish. the stay wasn't bad at all, just try and keep yourself occupied.

I am an 18 year old student at a University here in sunny Florida. I have struggled with weight my whole life, I remember dieting as young as 9 or 10 years old, and I remember hating it, and continued to hate it for the next 7 to 8 years. My mom, who works at a hospital came home with a flyer about a bariatric surgeon and asked if I was willing to consider, reassuring me that she loved me no matter how heavy I was, as mothers do. I agreed to meet with the Doc and immediately felt as though I was headed in the right direction with an awesome surgical team!
I embarked on my LONG journey, completely oblivious to how long it really would be, in May of 2010 looking to have the Lap Band surgery in December of that year. The surgery went well and I was in Band-bliss for about 9 months until I noticed there was something very wrong. I kept it to my self until around November when I brought the problems up to my Doc and he took a closer look. turns out that the band had stopped working and the pouch on top had dilated and I was out of luck. I went through about a month of depression and guilt, telling myself that I did something wrong, against all arguments my Doc made. I had the Band removed the following May of 2012.

The newest chapter of my journey started last December with the sleeve surgery, and I am only expecting smooth sailing. I am so unbelievably grateful to have such an amazing family that has offered so much support through all of this, and to have such an amazing medical team to work with, and who have been there for support at every turn!
    Thanks for reading!!!

I have my appt with the dietician in 2 weeks. Very excited to get to know all of you and continued blessings for the best of luck on your own individual journies!

Dr. D is my doctor too! I was banded in Mexico in 3/10 and Dr. D has taken care of me ever since. He is the most caring and patient doctor I have ever been to. I am having my band removed and revision to VSG surgery with him on 6/17. Although I am within 10 lbs of my goal with the band, we both agree that the and isn't working for me at all. I have had more fills/unfills than I can count. I am so looking forward to a better quality of life with the sleeve! I will update you all and wish you all good luck in your journey!

I was sleeved by Dr. Domkowski on the 19th of April. I think he is great! I never experienced the shoulder gas that many many people had. I asked him about this, and he said that he found if he heats the Co2 that they use in surgery, the gas pain isn't as bad. He is definately right. I did have gas pains after surgery of course, but nothing that couldn't be handled with a pain pill. He is caring, and wants you to ask him absolutey anything. You will have to have a drain in for a week. He is very definate about this. I tried to weasle my way out of it, but he wouldn't budge. I survived it. Honestly, I have had a very easy time of it, and I had a lapband removed and then the sleeve done. Eating has not been a problem at all. So far so good. Incision pain was quite minimal. You will do just fine. You're in good hands.

My husband and I both had our VSG done by Dr. Patrick Domkowski in Sebastian. I would highly recommend him and the staff at Sebastian River Medical Center.

I have my inital consult Friday, June 7th. I finally decided to take that step because I have tried and failed every other option. I am tired of passing on things I'd love to do! I want to be able to go to a movie or see a play or symphony without having to first check around for a seat width. I want to run. I want to be able to keep up with my nieces and nephews. I want to have a life on the weekends that doesn't involve my husband and I in our matching recliners. I want to THROW AWAY OUR RECLINERS! I want to see places. I want to be of normal size to do all of these things. I want too much and all this fat is keeping me from it. And I am finally ready to make the change I have been putting off for way too long!

What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe
