    Band Out And Waiting Anyone?

My band was removed on 5/22 and I'm waiting to be sleeved. Currently I'm doing all the consults over again as my insurance treats me like I never had WLS.

Denied because of only 1 WLS per lifetime.....

You def have the right to appeal, but next year when Obamacare supposedly goes thru fully, I believe insurance companies are no longer allowed to have lifetime maximum clauses, or deny people due to pre existing conditions. So if the appeal falls thru there is always hope for next year. Hope everything works out for you!! I may go thru something similar when they try to get my sleeve approved. Instead of one WLS per lifetime, my insurance has $4000 lifetime maximum on bariatric procedures. I had my band removed on 5/22, I'm hoping bc of emergency it is not put towards that $4000. Good Luck!
  4. I never felt in control of my appetite either. I was always hungry. I'm really hoping that I don't feel that way with the sleeve. Food was always on my mind with my band. I think I'm more nervous about this surgery though bc it's so permanent. It's freaking me out some.
  5. So nice to hear you guys say this! I'm nervous about being sleeved even though I hated my lap band. Those of you that have been sleeved, is the restriction or "full feeling" different than with the band?
  6. I had my band for almost 9 years and am now waiting to be sleeved. My surgeon, the same one that did my band, recommends 2 procedures. The reason I was given is that the stomach is thicker where the band was and bc of that they want it to heal. According to him lap band patients have an increased chance for leakage. He Also stated that being that the stomach has thickened or enlarged makes it harder for them to gauge what size staple to use. At first I was annoyed bc I'd rather everything be done at once, but now I'm glad that they are doing it in two procedures. If it's means less chance for complications I'm all for that. I have to do all the consults over again as my insurance treats me like I never had WLS in the past. My band was removed on 5/22 and last time I was at my surgeons office, the stated that with the way all my consults are scheduled I may be looking at a September date. Kind of poetic, since I was banded September of 2004. Good Luck with your decision!
  7. One specialist down, 3 to go!

    Beware St. Alexius New Start

Rox I was always thought that was the way too until my supervisor kind of handed me my arse when I gave them to a patient. Was told it's a violation of HIPPA. I was told that they technically are not our records to give if they were from another specialist or facility not affiliated with our office directly.

    Beware St. Alexius New Start

Not sure how it works there, but the Surgical office I worked in in NY also would not release third party records. They had to come directly from the source due to HIPPA. It stinks yes, but that's how it works here. Hope your experience gets easier!!!!

    knee surgery before sleeve?

I should have added to my post, If it's an elective surgery like knee replacement or meniscus tear you should wait, if it's something like an acute injury, then definitely have the surgery.

    knee surgery before sleeve?

I don't know anything about insurance rules with WLS and Knee surgery, but depending on the knee surgery and the nature of the knee problem I might consider waiting till I was thinner.

    Recovery from Band Removal

My doctor said about 3-6 months, depending on when all my consults were finished. Recovery from band removal has not been bad so far, but I was not an extreme case. Most painful part was where the port had been and of course gas from the laparoscopy. Band was removed on 5/22. The other thing is not being able to lift my son for 1 month, but I just look at it as preparation for what's to come. :-)

    Miso soup

Wonder if you could add unflavored protein to it to increase the protein?
  19. Cardiologist and pulmonologist booked, now just waiting on nut and psych....another step closer!

  20. Spanx now makes active wear too, In regular and plus size. Also I know target sell assets which are cheaper than spanx and made by the same woman. When I had lost all my weight with the lap band I lived in those things. Good luck with your 5k and "taming the beast", and congrats on all the weight lost!!!
