  1. My nutritionist said Miralax and the Dr.'s office said calcium citrate or mineral oil. Stool softeners are ok as well. To add fiber get fiberchoice chew tabs. I really have to go but don't want to push. Feel like the tidy bowl man is stuck in mid stream!!!!
  2. I know it's way too much information but..I have the urge to make abm and I know it wants to come out. I don't want to push.. Took Miralax today. Would an enema be ok to use??

    Chest pains

    Call the Dr.
  4. I took a robe, 2 pair of shorts and 2 tops and used non of them. Lived in my hospital gown. I took face wash, moisturizer. Didn't use them either. I used my shampoo and moisturizer the day I went home. I also took an mp3 player and ear phones, kindle. Again didn't use. Personally I would take whatever you think you can't live without and then see. No harm no foul
  5. Ask your nutritionist for their suggestions. If not let me know and I can give you mine. Keep in mind all Doctors have their own ideas.
  6. Insist that he put you on an antacid. Mine is Dexilant 60mg capsules. I open them and pour the little balls on pudding/applesauce etc. Once a day. I was given them thru the iv in the hospital as well. If there is no acid then reflux can't be horrible. Nexium is good as well.
  7. I thought I was so smart, I read everything I could get my hands on the subject of Vertical sleeve!! Went online to forums, bought books, talked to people, watched youtube, went to all the sights I could google, aol, yahoo search. Bottom line, after having had knee replacement in November 2011 and my Achilles tendon cut to relieve the pull on my heel from bone spurs I thought I was " in the know" Once I was wheeled into the O.R. and the various team members told me what they did in the procedure and I started looking around the room I was terrified. Mask was on and in my head I argued with myself. Put your hand up and scream WAIT!!! Next thing I knew I was in post op and then into my own room. The first 2 days were tough only because I felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach. that was the worst of my pain. I had a bolas with my I.V. that allowed me to give myself doses of pain meds ( morphine ) I barely used it. My surgery was 3 weeks ago today. I am so very glad I didn't stop it from happening. I'm still a bit sore in the tummy ( largest incision is where they pull out the excess stomach they have cut ) They have to go thru muscle so that is the pain. Getting in and out of bed or even just moving around the first 10 days or so. For me nothing horrible. I did it because I knew I could not diet, take it off and Keep it off on my own. at 57 my knees were shot, my feet hurt when I walked, my back ached. This surgery for me was life saving. Good luck and don't feel like you're not allowed to be scared. It is surgery, you will be asleep. Waking up for me was a rebirth of sorts. I hope it all works out for you.
  8. I was told Miralax which totally dissolves in liquid. Also told not to use Metamucil or benefiber because of the psyillium.

    Vitamins question

I also take an antacid ( nexium which I open and sprinkle on pudding since I can't swallow the capsule whole ) daily. You can try over the counter omeprazole generic . My Doctor feels strongly about not having any acid reflux to agitate the tummy.

    Vitamins question

I started on the Bariatric Advantage multi chewables. They have a terrible taste and consistency!!!. I am expecting a delivery of a new product by Celebrate. It's a chewable multi like toffee. My nutritionist aid that because we are not eating our full requirements of vitamins and minerals taking a supplement is essential. They also have biotin which helps with hair loss. I also take calcium citrate chewys, sublingual b12 and chewable iron ( all by Bariatric Advantage ). I can only go by what I have been told. heck on the website of ant Bariatric center of excellence and see what the recommendations are. such as The Mayo Clinic, Loma Linda University Medical Center. Google Bariatric Centers of Excellence. doing your research is the best thing you can do. also, find a new PCP immediately so tey can check your blood levels if your surgeon will not.

Need some more good jue jue

Sending out the approval vibes as we speak!!!
  12. Don't count calories, just make sure you try and stay below 5 grams of both fat and sugar. At week 3 I could have pureed but also tuna smashed with low fat mayo, eggs, scrambled with a bit of low fat cheese thrown in or I made egg salad. Chew, chew, chew. sugar free puddings are good too.
  13. I found 3 books, A passion for protein , The High Protein cookbook, both on ebay and The protein counter on Amazon. Google Chef Dave as well.
  14. Just take a step at a time. Just being out of the hospital made me feel better. Use lots of pillows around your body in bed. Worst part for me was getting out of bed and getting up. Muscle pain was a bear. Put a chair with arms by the bed so you can grab them for extra leverage. Use the pillows to help take some of the discomfort out of trying to move in bed. I'm 3 weeks tomorrow and already sleeping on my tummy.

    Drain! AHHHHHH

The drain was yucky and mine came out 2 days after surgery. When they pull it out take a deep breath and focus on something else. It's not horrible but it is uncomfortable. Takes 2 seconds to pull out and you will wonder why you worried so much.

    I need a hug

A giant hug for you. I go days when the scale doesn't move at all, but I can see and feel the difference. You're allowed to feel frustrated. You wouldn't be human if you didn't. I walk in the pool for 1/2 an hour daily. Too hot in So. Cal desert to walk outside during the day and too tired at night. It's 8:30 at night and still 100 degrees outside. I also HATE the vitamins. I ordered the new celebrate chewy multi vitamin. More like toffee. We'll see when they arrive. My blood pressure is actually low now and the Dr. said I need to make sure I drink my water/liquids to stay hydrated. Chin up, this too shall pass. We didn't get obese overnight so it's not gonna come off overnight.

    Protein

Try Isopure , it's a flavored colored ( clear ) drink that has no carbs but really high in protein. check out your local vitamin shop, gnc or go online.

    Easting schedule

Before the surgery I never really thought about how I ate or how often. I was a nighttime snacker ( butter, mayo, cream cheese on just about anything. ) Now I have to make an effort to remember and eat. Ironic isn't it!! We used to live to eat now we eat to live. I think planning a schedule is the only way to go.
  19. if you do a google search on high protein low carb cookbooks it should help. Also ebay. Chef Dave has soon good recipes. He's actually one of us.

    Dill pickes .

Don't see why not during the liquid/300 calorie week 1 pre op but check with your nutritionist. Salt may be the issue.

    What's the pain like?

Not pain more like muscle discomfort. Almost like being kicked in the tummy. don't forget they have to go thru muscle to pull out the excess tummy. I had an iv and also a bolas of morphine that I could control how much and how often. I used it a bit the first 36 hours but not a lot. One girl who had it done right before me used it so much she was hallucinating!!! Gas is a problem because it's not the type you can toot out!! Walk, walk, walk. Ask for help from the nurses. They are there for you, don't think you are bothering them. Sit up when you can.

    Pain

Is it pain all over or more like you have been kicked in the tummy by a horse??? The largest incision is where the excess tummy was removed so the muscle was cut. I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow ( June 19th ) and I am still just a bit sore. Able to sleep on my tummy but still hurts to turn over. If it is up in your back and shoulders/neck it's gas. Not the kind you can toot out either. From being inflated. Walk ( baby steps ) as much as you can. Tell the nurses so they can give you something or call the Sr. and see what he or she wants to do. Don't feel like you are being a bother. They are paid to take care of you. ASK for help.
