  1. Not to sound harsh, but damn it, you know what to do, now that you've undergone this major/life-changing surgery...quit whining and just do it! The first two months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else! You will get through this, however you have to want it, nobody can do it for you...and trust me, you do want it! This has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me)...and you will see, the transformation will be friggin' incredible! You cannot fathom how much the weight loss is going to change your life...you just gotta get through the gettin' through! Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery! (Tough love rant over! )
  2. One of my favorite quotes... “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”Good luck...you're in for one heck of a journey!

    help

I was sleeved exactly 2 months prior to my wife. My surgery and recovery were textbook...zero complications. My wife on the other hand...she had two hernias repaired. She also had terrible reflux and an issue getting enough fluids. It took about a month for me to sleep with both eyes closed (in her state of mind, she was not to be trusted! ), however she is doing great now and that early period is a distant memory. I pray you have a speedy recovery and the same outcome as my bride. She is now 10 months out and we're lovin' life!
  4. I was drinking as much as I wanted, around 3-4 days post-op...scared the heck outta me too! Have since learned, everyone is different...some can only take in a small amount of fluids (sip, sip, sip), while others are fortunate enough to tolerate much more. I had far more restriction when I got to the mushy stage, i.e. the more dense the food, the less intake. I wouldn't be overly concerned, just go with what feels tolerable for you. Good luck...you're in for one heck of a journey!

    1 Year out vsg

    Fantastic! You look great!

PLEASE! Dear God, Can I get some coffee?

I started drinking decaf the day after surgery, albeit just a few sips. Within a week or so, I was drinking the leaded stuff with no discomfort. Now everybody's tolerance is different and everyone has an opinion about whether or not we should drink it...I'd recommend following your doctor's advice. I now drink 6-8 cups a day...Splenda, a little Hershey's cocoa powder or SF vanilla coffee Mate. As a matter of fact, I'm enjoying a big cup of it right now! Good luck!

Magic bullet vs Ninja master prep

My wife and I couldn't decide, so we bought a Nutri Bullet and a Ninja (I think the bullet was $99 and the particular model Ninja we bought was $199). In all honesty, we could have saved money and pantry shelf space by just using our existing blender! I'm sure there may be some very good reasons to purchase each of these appliances, however we didn't really use either of them but a few times. Good luck and Godspeed for a rapid recovery!

    What an incredible accomplishment! Congrats!

    Working Out

I started walking two days post op, albeit short distances. After about 2 weeks, I was walking and biking for 30-40 minutes a day. Added swimming as soon as the wounds healed (think it was at 8 weeks or so, can't remember). Wasn't cleared for weights until about 16 weeks and then it was moderate, nothing too strenuous. At 20 weeks, I started hitting the weights aggressively and haven't looked back!
  11. The anxiety is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic!! This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for me. However, it is all a distant memory now! I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better! Now, that period of time is a distant memory! She can tolerate just about everything, albeit in moderation. I can eat almost everything, but for some weird reason, still have a tough time with canned tuna fish!? I can eat steak, chicken, fresh tuna steaks, roast, crawfish, ribs, etc., etc....but canned tuna just doesn't sit well w/me. No worries, I can live without it! I am down 117 lbs. and hit my original goal around 4 months ago. My wife is down 80 lbs. and hit her goal about 3 months ago (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders to the letter, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT!) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are baggy, to hell with what the number is! LOL), move around (walk...exercise when you're ready) and I promise, the weight will melt off! You're in for one heck of a journey...Godspeed for a quick recovery!

    Alcohol?

I waited 6 mos. Nothing carbonated...mainly coconut Ciroc and diet cranberry...maybe a little Malibu every now and then. Haven't had any issues, but really don't drink to excess.

    Before picture views! ack!

I just viewed your pic, however I assure you, it was due to the curiosity associated with your post and not in a creepy/stalkerish sort of way! As stated previously, I think the only folks who can view your info/pics have to be members of this site. You should be flattered so many folks want to see your pic! Good luck on your journey!

What a difference 9 months makes!

    Amazing transformation!

6 months out, is this it?

Don't panic, this is just a stall. As you get closer to your goal, you just don't have as much to lose, so the loss will be far slower...but it will happen! Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. move more and eat smart...the lbs. will drop. By the way, 73 lbs. in 6 months is phenomenal!

    7 Months & 116.4 Pounds

    Wow, incredible transformation!

    Whats wrong with my tummy?!

I had to eat slower during the pureed phase. However, if you're having issues with foods that were previously tolerable, you should check with your doctor. It's more than likely nothing but your new stomach settling in, but better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

    Man Boobs (Moobs)

Absolutely! I do minimal (once in a blue moon!) cardio and focus on weight training. Bench press (normal, incline and decline) totally eliminated moobs!
  20. Popcorn is no problem, although some will probably scold me for saying such a thing! Chili fries on the other hand...don't think I would do that to myself! I suspect your co-worker should probably do some soul searching and decide if she wants to go back to her old self...the temporary satisfaction of chili fries (chili fries...really?!?! ) just isn't worth it. I can eat whatever I want (Although I still can't tolerate canned tuna...stomach just doesn't care for it any more?!), but I now see food for what it is...necessary! Carbs aren't evil...they're fuel! It is an amazing feeling...to be full, from so little! I am excited for you! I'll get off my soapbox for now. Don't worry, you will do great! I have zero doubt that your success story will inspire others!

    Before and After pictures

Wow, only 7 weeks?! Great progress! Yep, there may be other threads such as this, but it's always inspirational to see others' success! Good luck for continued success!
  22. Can't speak for others, but I'm almost 1 year post op (May 8th) and have been absolutely thrilled with my results! The decision to proceed with the surgery was by far the right choice! My wife was sleeved two months after me and would echo the sentiment. My surgery and recovery were textbook...zero complications. Feeling great and off pain meds after 2 days...back to work in five days. Hers was more challenging, as she had two hernias repaired and the recovery was a bit tougher/longer. However, she was feeling great after 3-4 weeks and now the whole recovery phase is a distant memory. Now keep in mind, this surgery is only a tool, albeit a huge one! You will need to eat smart (Protein first!) and exercise...but trust me, without the extra weight holding you back, you'll feel like you can freakin' fly! I hit my goal around 9 months and my wife took around 7 months. We both have our exercise routines...I do strictly weight training, while she doesn't lift anything but her feet! (walking/cardio is her thing) I've heard of some folks regaining weight, but I've heard of just as many others who have kept it off successfully. I guess you could fall back into old habits if you were weak and didn't want to succeed, but that's your call. If you want it bad enough (whatever it is), you will find a way to succeed. If you don't want it, you will find an excuse. Trust me, this site will be your best source of straight forward, no holds barred, information...you'll find yourself spending more time here than Facebook! If you have a question, need a sympathetic ear or just need a place to sound off...this is it. I pray you have a great surgery and speedy recovery! Just remember, follow your doctor's orders to the letter, give your body time to heal, don't let the number on the scale be your only measure of success and whatever you do, don't waste money on a lot of new clothes the first 5-6 months...'cause you'll be dropping sizes faster than you can fathom! Good luck and get ready, you're in for an awesome journey!

    Too much liquid?

I was drinking as much as I wanted, around 3-4 days post-op...scared the heck outta me! Have since learned, everyone is different...some can only take in a small amount of fluids (sip, sip, sip), while others are fortunate enough to tolerate much more. 24. I had no problem with fluids and pureed/soft foods, but when I got to more dense foods (4-6 weeks out), I had a major wake-up call! It seemed the more dense the food, the less of it I could tolerate. Although everyone is different, I have heard much of the same on this site. Again, you will be fine, the first few months is tough. The surgery reduced the volume of intake, it did not fix what was going on between your ears . Give yourself time and I promise, you will get through this period...just gotta take baby steps.
