  1. Thank you! I don't know how I will be able to concentrate at work until I leavt to go to my appointment! Lol!
  2. Congrats to you from one grandmother to another! My second grandson was born last Saturday. I told my son that once I have my date, I will spend the weekend with them prior to having the surgery since they live about an hour or so away from me. I am looking forward to seeing my grandson, while at the same time, looking forward to getting my date tomorrow at my appointment. I am jumping with triple excitement! So I truly understand your joy!
  3. Hello everyone. Tomorrow, I finally have my surgery consult so I will get my date tomorrow. I am so excited. I had to go through so many changes to get to this point. I have noticed a few things which is the isopure protein drinks, certain flavors cramp my stomach. Has that happened to anyone? I am pre op so this can be a problem post op.
  4. Hello everyone. I just started to take Topamax, since Wednesday. How long did it take for you all to start feeling the side effects? My doctor gave it to me as a mood stabilizer. Just curious!
  5. Just to let everyone know, I have finished week 4 in my classes. I have been averaging about 2.3 to 2.5lbs lost per week. My classes end on 8/28. I have even tried my hand at cooking. I am not a cook. So this weekend was fabulous for me. I cooked beans with turkey necks. The beans were a mix of about 15 types of beans with red, yellow, and green bell peppers. I put onions, celery, and as far as seasonings, I added salt substitute, garlic pepper, chili powder, paprika, ground cumin, rosemary, parsley flakes, and I believe that is everything. Then I made some brown rice and a strawberry salad. It was so delicious. The strawberry salad had romaine lettuce, spianch, strawberries. The dressing was made from mayo, milk, sugar, white wine vinegar, and poppy seeds. For the milk, I used 2% milk. For the sugar, I used Truvia, the sugar substitute, which is better than equal and a lot of the sugar substitute.
  6. Currently, I don't have a date. There are 12 classes. So far I have lost about 2.5lbs a week. When I started at the first weigh in at the info session, I was 247.8. Now at wednesday 's class I was 237.2lbs I believe. I know I was 237 but I don't know the point something without looking at my paper.
  7. Hey there. Welcome to the land of milk and honey of information. This site is a wealth of information and support. I am in L.A. next week I will be in my fifth week of classes. You will definitely enjoy the support you receive here. Good luck on your journey to the new you.
  8. I am not sleeved yet either. I am on week 4 of 12 of my classes before I am given a date. I try to include strength training at least once or twice a week. I don't want a lot of excess skin when its time to have my surgery and beyond. I have a friend who doesn't want to do weights because she doesn't want to weight in muscle since her classes end on the 17th of the month. By me doing a combination of the two, I feel like it balances things out and I am losing weight and not gaining weight on the scale. I feel fabulous after every workout.
  9. According to my trainer, he said that you need a protein shake during my workout so that my body will not eat away at the muscle. That particular day I did a cardio class for an hour and was getting ready to do some weightlifting for another hour. He said that my body needs the protein to help build the muscle and to give my body the fuel it needs to perform at its best. Well when I did that, I notice I had enough energy to complete my workout with energy to spare.
  10. No soy latina pero amo la cultura Hispaña.
  11. I am just in the beginning of taking my classes. I have to take 12 weeks of classes before my surgery is scheduled. My classes ends on August 28th. Ya toma dos clases. Its beautiful your dad spoke spanish to you. I knew of someone who was Chinese, Guatemalan, and something else. She looked Chinese.
  12. Phoenixthediva, habla china tambien? Tú mama o papa china? Have you had your surgery yet?
  13. No soy Latina pero hablo español poquito y comprendo mucho. Puedo leer y comprender mucho. I just love reading you guys posts. I have a love the spanish language and culture. Some of my friends use me to translate for them. I am not fluent but I understand a lot. I had friends who were mexicanas, salvadorena, boricua, y de honduras. I don't have anyone to practice with so that I can become fluent.
  14. Good for you on the weight loss and the first date. I can't wait until my time comes to be sleeved. Just be yourself. I don't know if you wear makeup but if you do, then go light to make it look all naturale. Wear something sexy but not too revealing. You want his imagination to wonder what's under the clothes. Be flirtatious by smiling, licking your lips, teasing him when you suck the straw that you're drinking from, etc. You will be fine. Don't stress too much about it. Just have a good time. Just keep the conversation going by asking him questions about himself. Most men I know love to talk about themselves to the tenth degree.
  15. Has anyone encountered any problems with losing the 10% and being told to come back in a month or so prior to being scheduled for surgery? Just curious!
  16. Hey! I just finished my second class yesterday and I wanted to say that because I love to research things, I believe I know a little too much where the majority of information, I already know. There are a few things but not that much. Most questions I have are mainly surgical so the teacher always says that is something to ask the surgeon when you talk to him.
  17. I have natural hair and one thing I would recommend is to wet ur hair, put conditioner on your hair, swim, rinse it out with a sulfate free shampoo, put it in a ponytail and let it air dry. Putting too much heat on the hair with or without a heat protector, can damage your hair after awhile. If you are going every day, a sulfate free shampoo will not strip ur hair of its natural oils. Products with sulfates are like degreasers. They strip your hair of everything, the good and the bad. It is mainly about what products you use and what you put into your body. Your hair and skin are manipulated by what you eat and drink as well as the products you use. I have been natural since 7/30/11 and I just love my natural hair. Currently, I am growing dreads.
  18. I love Zumba. But one thing is for sure is that I like variety. I get bored very easily. So in order for me to stay interested, the instructor has to mix things up a bit. I can't do the samething every week. I have to mix it up or I will lose my momentum in working out. I wouldn't worry too much about being big cause there are a lot of people in ur same situation that just gets out there to have fun while exercising. I would suggest looking for free events in your area that have dance lessons. In Los Angeles, every other Friday, they are teaching a different style of dance. It is so much fun and you are exercicing in the process. I would say make a list of things you like to do; then make an appt with urself to do one thing off that list every other day. For example: if you have to go grocery shopping, make it a point to walk arounfd the perimeter of the store before getting your groceries. After doing that for awhile, your body will get used to that and then you have to change it up so that you can trick your body into getting into the fat burning mode. Just be creative in getting in your exercise. The key is to find something you enjoy doing so that it will not feel like exercise.
