    Questions

First things first! You talked about head hunger. Your body will truly let you know when you need to feed it. Sometimes though, you will have to force yourself to eat cause you will noticed that you have went so long during the day without eating. To prevent that, plan your meals and stick to a schedule. Eat slowly to prevent the dumping syndrome. Take your time and you will find a balance of when you are truly hungry or just needing something because you are feeling a certain way. Next you talked about dealing with the food feasts & your family. This was one of the topics that was discussed at one of the support groups. Try to change the focus from food to activities like playing a game of charades or some type of activity to get people moving. One of the things I do is eat slowly, chew slowly, enjoy the conversations with everyone, get up and dance, help with cleaning tasks, anything to get me moving and out of the way and then take my plate to go. Hope this helps.

    Anyone from California ....

I have to say that I have been really busy lately as I haven't been on the site in a while. I finished the classes on August 28th. I had my surgery on October 22nd. I am now down to 178.4lbs. Sometimes I can't believe it myself. I have friends and acquaintenances asking me questionss about what I did. Of course, I don't tell them about the surgery but I do tell them my routine. They are amazed and proud of me at the same time.

    October Sleevers - Who else

I had my surgery on the 22nd and I don't know if anyone has had this particular problem. I have this pain in my groin area on the left side when I move my left leg a certain way. I can't make any quick movements or I will get a very sharp pain. Has anyone else experience that?

    African American Sleevers

Hey everyone. Just an update. I was sleeved on 10/22. When I weighed myself at home the day of surgery, I was 214.8lbs. Today I got on the scale and I weighed 206.4. I ended up coming down with a cold so it is a pain to keep blowing my nose and coughing up phlegm. I habe been walking around. I walked twice yesterday. I am going to try to get more protein down today since I only got 14oz down yesterday. I calculated it wrong yesterday. I thought I had 17 but it was only 14. So I need to get more in today.

    SoCal kaiser harbor city

The pre op diet depends on your doctor. I go to Kaiser on Cadillac, West LA kaiser. My docvtor did not require a pre op liquid diet. He told me to continue what I was doing cause I had been successful. Some friends I know had a two day pre op diet. They were part of the same kaiser as you. My surgery is tomorrow.

    African American Sleevers

Tomorrow is my day. It has been a long day at work. Then I tutor a homeless child and now I am on my way home to pack my bag, change my bed linen, and go to bed. I feel like I'm coming down with a cold so I am going to call it an early night especially since I have to be at the hospital by 8am for my surgery at 10.

    October Sleevers - Who else

I'm nervous and excited! My day is tomorrow! I feel like I'm coming down with a cold a day before surgery. I have to be at the hospital at 8am for my surgery at 10am. I was told that my surgery may take an extra hour cause of all the scar tissue from previous surgeries. Once I get home, I am going to pack my bag and go to bed. I have an early day since I am catching the bus to the hospital. The only good thing is that the bus ride is only 15 minutes. But I am going to arrive early just in case something happens along the way.

  17. My date is 10/22/13. My pre op appointment is on the 16th. The one thing I loved about him is that he said he was going to clean up the previous scar tissue that I had from previous surgeries and if I had any hernias or anything else, it would be taken care at the same time. The question he asked that no other surgeon asked was about if I had a history of any degenerative diseases. I was shocked that he asked that. I had that as one of my questions to ask him and he answered the question before I asked him. I thought that was awesome. I believe mine took a little longer cause my case manager sent my referral to the wrong department. I decided to follow up and got things moving. Sometimes you have to be your own advocate to make sure everything is moving according to plan. How far are you in your classes?

  19. I am curious to see how many people are going to that facility! I would like to know if anyone have any experience with the surgeons there. I start my first class on June 12th. The first of 12. I am really excited! I am trying to get a feel for the process at this facility. Does anyone have any input?
  20. I would like to thank every who commented on about Dr. Kim. He definitely lived up to everything everyone said about him. He was very polite, patient, answered all of my questions, explained everything in detailed, he reviewed my chart prior to seeing me like someone said so that really made me feel good. He asked questions that no other surgeon has ever asked me. That made me feel like he really knew his stuff. It really made me feel at ease with him. I have to admit, I was skeptical of getting him at first cause I tend to do background checks on doctors that are going to be performing some kind of medical evasive procedure on me. When I started the options program, I looked up all of the surgeons' licenses to make sure they were valid and had no malpractice or no infractions on their records. Everyone else came back clean except for him. So when I found out I had him, I prayed and asked God to show me why he was given to me. He was given to me cause of my hesistance and he was testing my faith in him. With that being said, God is an awesome God and so is Dr. Kim from what I saw and heard when I met with him yesterday.
