  1. When I hit my goal, I hope to celebrate my accomplishment by getting plastic surgery work done (tummy tuck, breast lift, and butt lift), and a pair of Tory Burch riding boots. We will see how things change as the months progress...

    Mexico or not

I went to Tijuana Mexico for my surgery, using Dr. Ismael Cabrera. My surgery and recovery, both, were/have been very smooth and I've had no problems. I had surgery September 25, 2013 and have lost 37 lbs. as of today... started at 263 lbs. It was a great experience and I never once felt unsafe. My sister, who is a cardiac nurse, was so impressed with the overall process, that she is now going back to TJ to have surgery herself! Good luck to you!
  3. I have only ordered soft protein, which has been broiled/baked tilapia or chicken. I stay away from carbs, so no potatoes, etc. for me.
  4. It is definitely possible. I don't drink protein shakes, but I usually get in at least 60 grams of protein per day. I eat a lot of tilapia, eggs, cottage cheese, string cheese, light laughing cow cheese, and an occasional tablespoon of reduced fat peanut butter, or cup of nonfat milk.

    self pay Houston Texas

I stayed 4 days in Mexico and flew home on the 5th day. Two of those days were spent in the hospital. This was using Medical Tourism. With most coordinating companies, I think the stay is 5 days and flying home on the 6th day. Crossing the border requires a passport or a passport card. It's the law. I hope your husband comes around. It really isn't a bad thing going to Mexico for surgery. I know the initial idea of it is scary, however

I am in the Houston area, too. My insurance would not cover any type of bariatric surgery, so I ended up going to Tijuana, Mexico for the sleeve. I used Dr. Ismael Cabrera and paid $4,500 for the surgery last month. I had a great experience. If you do decide to go the Mexico route, you will need a passport. Good luck to you! Tijuana felt safe to us. Not once did we feel that we were in danger. Everyone said that TJ was bad 6 years ago, but has calmed down since.
  8. Great experience! For future reference for those traveling to Mexico for surgery, you can bring the liquid Maalox back through airport security. One of the TSA agents will check the liquid with a small test strip to make sure it's legit.

    Baked tilapia.

I can't wait to try this. I eat tilapia nearly every night for dinner and was getting bored having it prepared the same way night after night. Thanks for sharing
  10. I will be 4 weeks post op on Wednesday and have had such an easy and smooth recovery. I can drink very easily without any discomfort and have tolerated every food I have tried, so far, without any problems. The only pain I have experienced was when I was still in recovery and that was only minor gas pain that had settled in my chest. Other than that, I have had zero pain since then. I started walking soon after surgery and walked a lot everyday, throughout the day. I'm so thankful that everything has worked out the way it has for me with this surgery. I was sleeved September 25, 2013 in Mexico and have lost 33 lbs so far (started at 263). I'm super happy!

    11 Months Out - Pics!

You look so good! Y'all are a beautiful couple! Very inspiring.
  12. I had my surgery in Mexico, too. The doctor told me to wait 6 weeks before starting any heavy exercise. Every doctor is different, though.

    Age and surgery

I'm 40 years old and had my surgery September 25, 2013 in TJ Mexico. I am 3 wks 3 days post op and have lost 33 lbs. as of today! I guess my stall broke. Yay!
  14. I have hypothyroidism and was diagnosed when I was 8 years old -- I've had it for 32 years now. I'm currently taking 200mcg of Synthroid. I am 3 weeks, 2 days post op and have had a good loss (30 lbs.) so far. I'm worried that the weight might end up coming off at a really slow rate, but we will see.

    Week 3 post op

Wow, that's amazing! You must be thrilled! Congrats to you! I'm three weeks, 2 days post op, and have lost 30 lbs. My clothes are much loser and I can wear stuff that was too small for me. I'm currently in a stall, though.

Weight Loss Stall at 2 weeks Post-op

I, too, am going through a stall. It makes me so discouraged, but I know it's normal and only temporary. I'm doing everything right, as far as I'm aware, eating low carb/high Protein and keeping my calories below 600 day. I sure can't wait to see that scale moving down again! Good luck!
  17. I'm only three weeks out, but I have started logging everything I eat on FitDay. Doing so keeps me aware of just how many grams of carbs, protein and fat I am actually consuming on a daily basis, as well as the calories I am getting. I also use it to tweak my daily meals (kinda like meal planning based on which foods have the most protein) to ensure that I always get at least 60 grams of protein a day. I think doing this will help me in the long run.

    One year

Wow, congratulations on such an amazing accomplishment!
  19. I will be 3 weeks out on Wednesday. I've lost 30 lbs. so far, but my scale hasn't moved any the last two days. I wish I could stop weighing every morning, to prevent getting discouraged. I'm doing soft foods, such as fish and eggs, and that's going down good. So far, I've not had any problems
  20. I have had some mild diarrhea, but nothing really drastic or bothersome. I have attributed it to eating so much liquidy stuff and possibly to artificial sweeteners. I have not experienced any vomiting. My doctor was supportive when I told her. She just said she wanted to get my blood pressure under control before I had surgery. So far, every medical professional I have spoken to since surgery has been supportive. When I mention that I had it done in Mexico, they ask questions, but nobody has been negative. I'm glad.

    September sleevers

I had surgery on September 25th, making me two weeks post op today. I am doing well and the eating and drinking has definitely gotten easier. I'm so happy I did this! Start weight: 263 Pre op weight: 257 Today: 235 I've lost 28 lbs total. Yay!
  23. I was told no exercising until I was 6 weeks post op. To me, that sounds about right in order to give the body time to heal.
