M2G, October is a good month. On the 19th, I will have been married 22 years to my high school sweetheart. Going to be a busy month. I noticed you are from the Denver area, I hope you haven't been affected by the floods.

Depends in the day for me. At three months out, I can eat 1.5oz of dense Protein one day and 3oz of the same on another. I've not figured out if it's due to a moon phase, which direction I'm facing, whether or not my socks match...
Absolutely no rhyme or reason! It just is what it is. I am learning to serve myself in 2 oz portions and if I go back for more, great!

I've been lurking around this forum since February 2013, when I started my six month prerequisites for insurance. I've read the good, bad and ugly, seen the before and after pics, read some great advice, encouragement and tips. Today, I met with my surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Hannon at Mobile Infirmary and set a date of October 7, 2013 for VSG. I am so excited and nervous. I hate that I have to wait that long, but I have other obligations that I need to get out of the way first so I can focus on my surgery and recovery. Just wanted to say hi and thanks to all the members here as they have relieved me of a lot of my fears.

Why would your doctor wait nine months to tell you that you need a six month monitored program? Geeze Louize! Ok here is a back story to make a point: In 2005 I left an abuser, moved very far away, and thought maybe I should go to college so I could support myself better. But I was thinking...I am 54...that is too old to go to college. But someone asked me, "how old will you be in four years if you do not go to college?" Answer was - 58, same as if I DID. So, I went back to college and got my bachelor's degree at the age of 58. Now, here is my point....where will your health be in six months if you don't get involved in a monitored weight loss program? We are ALL here because of a struggle and we reached out for surgical help to lift us up out of the quicksand of dieting despair. Your weight loss brothers and sisters want you to succeed. My insurance requires a 3 month program of which I have 5 weeks to go. I have learned so much from the Nutritionist even though I have been on a diet since 1978 and thought I knew it all. Portion Control, logging foods eaten, eating slower, balanced choices, eating more Protein even though I have vegans in the family. (which by the way, they seem like ankle-nipping Pekinese dogs to me) The program will be so worth it even if you don't have the surgery afterward. You will learn life skills that will help you on your journey to a healthier you. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. But come back to visit us here. We want to encourage you.

I'm 31 days out, and I can tell you I would do it again tomorrow in a heartbeat. My only regret is not doing this sooner. I'm not obsessed with food anymore...and I've lost 30 lbs. When you start to get psyched out, think about why you're doing it and how great you'll look...and it will be faster than you know it. All these medical tests lined up are for a reason...and while no one loves it, it's just part of the process. Sit back, relax, and imagine your skinny self. Plan to feel lousy for a couple days...that's just the reality of it, but every day is better than the one before, and before you know it, you're better than you've felt in years. Small price to pay...

I understand exactly how you are feeling! I was down right afraid ---- TO DIE! Well, obviously I was over-reacting because here I am! I am 17 days in and can HONESTLY say that I am completely happy that I did it. The surgery only took about an hour and within moments of waking up, I was drinking my Protein and walking within a few hours.
This is going to be a positive journey in your life so you should have no reservations about it. Just focus on the long-term outcome!

    WOOHOO! 7 days post op!
20 some days ago I had my first surgeon consultation. I was 376.2 lbs. I was 359 on surgery date. Today 7 days post op they took out my JP tube and I am 348.4! Down 28 lbs. total and 11 pounds in 7 days!
Despite my knee problem I am pretty happy. My home scale showed 343 so I am sure with the leg brace, and clothing there is 5 lbs. on me, so I can say the new home scale is accurate enough.
I can’t say how good this makes me feel about myself.
