    Today's The Big Day!

My surgeon had me spend the day of surgery on IV fluids only (nothing by mouth). The next day, I was allowed water at breakfast, and clear liquids at lunch. At dinner on day 2 I was allowed full liquids, and after breakfast on day 3 I was discharged. I'm assigned to full liquids for the next two weeks; then I'll graduate to mushy/pureed foods.
  2. I'm off to the hospital in the next hour or so--arrival time for surgery is 10 a.m.! Wish me luck--I'm so nervous I can barely see straight--I'm so eager to be on the sleeved side! I'll try to post as soon as I'm coherent and able to check in with you guys!
  3. Oh, Nicky, I'm so sorry that you're in pain and suffering. Don't rush yourself home if there are any issues at all. Much better to stay where you can be treated and helped quickest. My stomach has been spasming since yesterday, too--I know how you feel. Just follow the doc's advice and hang in there, you'll get through this even stronger than you were before.

    Cottage Cheese is King

It tastes cold and bland, for the most part. It has a bit of a sour tang (the way Greek yogurt does) and it mixes well with other things.
  5. Wait, I'm confuzzled. Water is counted in ounces, but isn't protein measured in grams? 60 grams of protein per day may be doable, but 60 ounces would be 3.75 POUNDS of protein per day. I wouldn't do that even on an unsleeved belly!

    Today's The Big Day!

    I'm sure it will, Linda!
  7. Just checked my pulse while resting--60 bpm. That's fairly normal, right? My fever seems to have broken as well. I really REALLY hope the gurgle-twisting lets up soon. It's making it hard for me to get my fluids in.
  8. My hospital stay was fine--I had an awesome roomie and we got along great, which helped pass the time between walks and sips! I don't think I had any surgeon other than mine--but I was asleep, so I can't be positive.

    Today's The Big Day!

It went off without a hitch--now my only issues seem to be getting all my fluids in, and finding a way to tame the terrible tummy growls/twists that happen every time I take a sip. Other than that, I would say I'm at about 85% of my usual energy levels.
  10. Thank you for responding, ladies--I appreciate it more than you know! My incentive spirometer got left behind in my eagerness to leave the hospital--maybe I can send someone out to get it for me. Before bed time last night (I guess I should call it "sofa time" since I can't lay flat in my bed yet), I took a dose of liquid Vicodin and that seemed to knock out the fever. This morning, my temp is at 98.5; hopefully it'll stay there. I'm going to see if I can get through the day today without Vicodin, since I don't want to encourage constipation or dependence on the narcotic. I feel like I'm constantly sipping on water, Crystal Light, Vitamin water, broth and Jell-O--I have yet to finish a full serving of any of them, but I'll keep trying--definitely don't want to become dehydrated! I just know I bought some extra-strength Pepcid before surgery...I'll track it down today and start crushing it.

    On a really happy note!

That's wonderful! I hope I can say all the same things in a few weeks! Right now, eating/sipping anything is the opposite of fun...but I haven't vomited yet. *fingers crossed*
  12. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers--it really meant a lot to me to know that I had the support of so many people! I'm home and trying to recover; apart from some incision soreness--which has taught me to SLOW DOWN and not make any sudden moves--and a low-grade fever, I'm doing very well! My main complaint is that I wish I could swallow a sip of liquid or a teeny cube of Jell-O without my sleeve doing somersaults. It hurts so much at times, that I need to do my Lamaze breathing from 13 years ago. As soon as that resolves itself, I'll be ready to conquer the world!
  13. Hi Cynthia--to be considered a veteran you have to have at least 100 forum posts. The more you post, the closer you'll get to the Veteran's Forum being unlocked for you!
  14. Hi, Lifer! I'm at home now, after being sleeved on Monday. Things are really very good--except for the killer gas pains that seem to tie my sleeve in knots whenever I take even a TINY sip of something. Other than that, I'm resting very comfortably. I do have a low-grade fever (100.3) but when I called the surgeon's office, the nurse said as long as it stays under 101, not to panic. I'm really looking forward to being able to take small sips without clenching my teeth against the gas pains!
  15. I was told at discharge to hold off on vitamins/supplements until a week post-op.
  16. I believe that forum is locked until you reach 100 forum posts. I'm not sure you can get around it, but you could try PM'ing Alex (the forums' creator) to see if he can let you in?
  17. I really hope so! Meanwhile my overactive imagination wants me to go full panic mode: "OMG it's a STRICTURE!!!" Deep breaths. Whew. Does anyone besides me have a low-grade fever to? 100.3 ever since I got home.
  18. My sleeve procedure was around 11:00 a.m. on Monday (July 1st); I just came home today (Wednesday). I've concentrated on walking around a lot to try to tame the mega-painful extra-large gas bubbles that rumble around every single time I swallow any liquid (clear or full, doesn't matter). My trochar sites are still sore and I'm having to pee pretty often, but that's no biggie. I'd just like to be able to take teeny sips of soup or Crystal Light without feeling like my stomach is trying to take up a new yoga routine. Owie.
  19. Home at last--feeling sore and gurgle-y, but it's good to be off the IV's and on my own comfy couch!

  20. ...do you worry about adding too many carbs by putting fresh (or frozen) fruits into the mix? One of my colleagues, who is a pretty health-conscious gal, was admiring my bright green smoothie Breakfast this morning. When I told her what was in it, she seemed concerned. I asked her what was wrong, and she asked me, "aren't you worried that you're taking in an awful lot of carbs in that smoothie?" I'm still pre-op, but trying to make healthy choices for my last 13 days with a whole stomach. Should I be worried that my smoothies have too many carbs, since I'm trying to eat a low-carb, healthy diet? I don't want to sabotage myself; and post-op, will it still be something to watch carefully when making smoothies? (P.S. the fruits and veggies in my shake were: kiwi, cucumber, honeydew, pineapple, and spinach, with hemp seeds and Protein powder to boost the protein content.)
  21. I've been on the boards since April, researching and learning all I can about the sleeve procedure and post-op lifestyle. I've gotten such amazing support from everyone here; my questions were answered and there was always helpful information to be found. I woke up today (SURGERY DAY!!!) feeling pretty well-prepared. I've done all my classes, bought Alex's Big Book of the Gastric Sleeve (one of the best 10-dollar purchases I've ever made), read, discussed, read some more. Last night I did my bowel prep (yay), drank Water till my eyeballs floated in their sockets, polished my fingers and toes a deep "vampire red" (gotta feel pretty), and went to bed. Slept great. Yup. I woke up ready today! I decided to flip through my pre-surgery binder (something my surgeon's office provides) while I wait to head out the door. I went to the "Preparing for Surgery" section. "We recommend that you shower in the morning on the day of surgery, but do not use any moisturizers, creams, lotions, or makeup." Okay. So far, so good. "Please bring your eyeglasses and a case for them if possible." No problem--my ten dollar CVS magnifiers will be fine. "Remove your jewelry." Done. "Do not wear nail polish." *looks down at fingers* Oh, bloody damn !!! The lesson learned here is: pay attention to the details! My fingertips are now naked. (I'm leaving the toenails painted--I'm a rebel.) Good luck to all my fellow July 1st sleevers today!

    No day but today!

Elizabeth, I'm thinking of you, sleeve sista! See you on the other side of the sleeve!
  23. I'm heading to the hospital in about an hour!
  24. So I took my mag/cit about an hour ago. Followed the directions on the bottle ("drink with 8oz. of water")...how long till I get the desired result? I'm worried that my system is moving too slowly, since there's been absolutely no "action" from the magnesium citrate yet. Should I be concerned, since my surgery is tomorrow morning? Or am I jumping the gun? I'm pre-op-nervous and a bit neurotic, I admit!
  25. Can't sleep, too wound up about tomorrow! Surgery Day!! ( o_O ) *boggled*
