whats the deal with sugar free post op?

My surgeon says you have to be sugar free for life. I figure he doesn't really expect you to be 100% sugar free forever but he sure says that. I never asked why because I don't plan on ever having much sugar.

    Secret Sleevers?

Before I had surgery I only told my husband, kids, boss & supervisor. I figured when people at work asked then I would tell them. Well, came back from 3 weeks off that was supposed to only be one but only one person asked why I was gone longer. I work in a small office of only women so its been kind of surprising that hardly anyone has commented on my 52 lbs of loss or asked how I am doing it. I thought it would just come up in conversation because we do talk about food, nutrition, diets and such but it only has come up that way once. The only co-worker that said "you've lost a lot of weight, what are you doing differently" was the only one that I don't want knowing my personal business. I feel kind of bad that I only told her I have been on a strict diet and I'm walking a lot but didn't tell her about the surgery. She will probably hear it from someone eventually and wonder why I didn't tell her but- oh well. I guess everyone accepts that I am a private person or else they just don't notice.
  3. The only thing I crave is pizza toppings and every time I have them I'm underwhelmed. I have this weird mental aversion to fruits right now. Its like my stomach is telling my head I'm not ready but I haven't even tried any. I'm 16 weeks out.

Did you keep a "before" outfit?

I kept just one shirt and one pair of jeans from my highest weight which was 85 lbs more than now. Some of the other big clothes were hard to pass on, like the shirt I was wearing when I held my youngest newborn Granddaughter but memories are in your heart and your head so you don't need those clothes.

    Strange feeling in stomach

This is me exactly. I don't feel hungry just empty and then I start feeling sick and weak. Then because I waited too long to eat its so hard to eat slow enough so sometimes I eat too much too fast and then feel like crap or have to spit some up. I tried making a food schedule so I wouldn't go too long between meals but I only followed it for a week. Now I just try like heck to always eat super slow.

    Can you eat salads?

Well I guess I still can't eat lettuce. I was messed up for over an hour after eating red leaf lettuce. I tried on two different days too. I think I will try in 2 weeks.

    Bowel movment

I second the milk of mag. i had never used it for that but my surgeon advised it. No cramping or discomfort- took about an hour and things went smoothly. In case you are wondering what I DID use it for- its a great face mask or good just to dry up a solitary zit while you sleep.

    Does chub rub go away?

The only place I had dark skin was on my stomach from decades of tight jeans. I wear jeans pretty much every day of my life. Anyhow I thought it was there to stay but after a month or so of loose jeans it was gone. Good luck with yours!
  9. I had to fill my mouth with cold water and then spit it out in the early days post op. I was so used to drinking a lot of water that it was hard not to take a big swig and if I just did little sips I was dissatisfied. Probably just a mental thing for me though.
  10. Congratulations! it sounds like you are off to a good start. Yea, things will get better!

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

Thank you Tigerbelle. This is challenging. I hardly lost anything the entire month of August. The girl that got sleeved just before me hit 40 lbs the day I hit 41 but then she progressed to 45 quickly while I did nothing and now we both hit 50 around the same day. Everytime I thought nothing was happening things still progressed. A month or so ago I was upset because I was sure I wasn't losing the biggest part of my belly but when I measured I had lost more between my 2 month & three month marks then I had the first two months. We do have almost the same stats! Good Luck.
  12. LOL and I thought it was because I am behind on my 6 month cleaning! My husband wants me to find a new dentist and I've been procrastinating. Love my dentist, hate the b*****s in the front office.

    Goal weight?

I went by a BMI chart. Normal for my height would be 125 to 158. Years ago a Dr told me to never try for under 150 because of my bone structure but I chose 145.

    Can you eat salads?

I had warm spinach salad this week (twice) with no issues so I am going to try lettuce tomorrow. I cant wait! I'm at 15 weeks too.
  15. I take a frozen piece of cod to work in a rubbermaid container. I pour a little line of olive oil down the middle of it and then sprinkle it with lemon pepper. By the time I have lunch the lemony part of the lemon pepper is melted into the oil. Its really good. I microwave it.

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

I finally hit 50 lbs lost! Actually I might have hit it last week but I'm making it official today. I was sleeved May 27 so this is week 15. Also I realized this week I now really BELIEVE that I am going to be a "normal" weight. I had nagging doubts before because it just didn't seem possible for me. I am having an issue this week with forgetting to eat or not eating something of substance. For instance realizing at 7pm that I feel like crap because all I have had all day is a Protein Drink and a yogurt. I have to get back to planning my food better and making sure I eat what I planned.

    That's a nice milestone! Congrats!

    To much protein?

You can only utilize 30 grams or so of Protein at a time- depending on your body. As long as your 100 grams are spread over the day like only 30 to 35 at a time it should be ok.

    Not eating enough

It seems to me that to non-sleeved people it just doesn't compute that we cant fit all this in AND leave a 30 minute buffer before and after eating & drinking. I keep thinking I just don't manage my time right because other people seem to be doing it all. Lately I don't eat, or don't eat enough and then when I do eat my body must know its hungry (even though I don't feel hungry) and it makes me eat too fast. I do get my shakes down though, it may take me an hour but I do get those down. I'm sick of them all though.

    Two months post-op pics

I can see a change! Looking good. Any day now you will be leaving the 300's forever! Cool huh? OOps I was going by your ticker- you are already under 300 !!
  22. This is the first time I have been confident in getting rid of big clothes, even those with tags that I never did wear. I consider it just one more expense of the surgery.
  23. Fit Frappe is Calcium Caseinate which isn't the kind of Protein I am supposed to have. I am supposed to have whey protein isolate. I do drink them because I liked what I got in the sample pack. Now that I have a big jar from Sams Club I will be glad when I have used it up. I much prefer making iced coffee and adding Protein powder. I do unflavored, vanilla or chocolate- they all come out good. Cheaper too. Click & Chike are good too. I got samples from all 3. None are whey protein isolate though.

    From Chicken to Fish

I always think of Cod as a "starter fish". I guess because growing up it was the only fish I ever had and even that wasn't cooked by my Mom- it was fish & chips from a fast food place. I buy frozen cod. I put a piece in a plastic container with a line of olive oil down it and then sprinkle it with lemon pepper. By the time I am ready for lunch at work the fish is thawed and the lemon pepper kind of melts into the olive oil. Quick to microwave and great with Broccoli.
