When will I learn how to eat?
vegasneon replied to vegasneon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did decide to go back to what was on the full liquids so shakes, yogurt & cottage cheese. I'd like to have Soup but it's not appetizing in the heat. I had thought maybe I wouldn't feel so weak & tired if I ate puréed food but it didn't help that anyway. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
Try not to think of it as a drag. Think of the good thing you are doing for yourself. Better to get used to all liquid now then after the surgery when you are uncomfortable. Plus as was already stated get your liver ready! Be proud of yourself for doing this very hard thing and don't even think about food. Sent from my iPhone using VST

When will I learn how to eat?
vegasneon replied to vegasneon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all. I did use baby spoons the first day or two of purée, I didn't even think of that. I eat everything out of a quarter cup measuring cup so I don't over eat and that usually Takeshita half am hour. Don, yea my Drs instructions were full liquid week one and purée weeks 2-4. I mostly eat cottage cheese, yogurt or ricotta cheese but I have had puréed tuna salad and puréed sweet potatoe with no problem. Now today I couldn't eat sweet potatoe that's why I think it is the technique that is lacking. I know it's still early, things will get better. Sent from my iPhone using VST -

My protein shakes are too frothy
vegasneon replied to vegasneon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Lannie, What kind of gas drops? Never heard of this. -
I'm 8 days out and I feel just like you do. I can smell food and think it smells good and not have to eat it. It's weird and amazing and I hope it lasts a looong time.

My protein shakes are too frothy
vegasneon replied to vegasneon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Oh thanks! I crave my old one and it doesn't seem like I can stir it good enough or even shake it with the metal blender ball. Guess I will have to make them all an hour beforehand! -
We just came back from T J Thursday. We communicated with everyone through Facebook messaging. We had set up Skype but never used it. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I just came from Vitamin Shoppe. I had looked at about 6 stores before GNC recommended them. Careful most of the candy ones are Calcium carbonate not citrate. Anyhow if you don't have a Vitamin Shoppe around you can order off the web. Oh and the one I got says Bariatric on it, it might be twin labs not sure. I'm in McDonalds drinking Water while the grand kids eat & play or I'd go look. They also have the chewable B complex with Thiamin my Dr said to use. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Newbie here, how did you all pay for surgery? Finance?
vegasneon replied to jenjer007's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Google medical loans or something like that. Just read all the fine print before you sign. When I was still researching Drs I looked at 4 or 5 different loan places. I ended up putting the whole shebang on a zero per cent credit card because I knew I can pay it off within 2 or 3 months once my I R S Checks roll in. (I have 3 years worth coming, Im a procrastinator). Good Luck Sent from my iPhone using VST -
We just drove home yesterday from San Diego area to Vegas. We don't fly anymore, we drive even if its cross country- we're just weird like that. Anyhow parked at the Border Station parking lot for $7 a day and the driver picked us up and returned us there. Different Dr but anyone should pick up there coz its right at the border. We could have come home Thurs but I wanted a restful day at a Hyatt Place (love them) and so glad we did that. We didn't get out of TJ until 1 or 2 pm and it felt kind of hectic that day. So I had surgery Monday, we did the drive home Friday. I could have driven myself especially if I was trading off with another driver but my husband drove. We planned to make lots of stops but on e we were rolling we didn't want to. Stopped in Lake Elsinore for him to eat, stopped in Barstow to pee and walk, stopped in Primm for gas. I was fine through it all. Feel pretty good today. I think you'll be glad you drove and had control over stops and timing. Good Luck! Sent from my iPhone using VST

Pain in left shoulder and neck
vegasneon replied to mommyvaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you just had surgery it's the CO2 gas, it migrates up to the left shoulder. It's common. Sent from my iPhone using VST -
If people question me too much I think I will say I don't weigh myself but my clothes are getting looser.

Wow, I can imagine! Congratulations.

Im struggling preop diet
vegasneon replied to BodyBattle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 10 of a 2 weeks liquid diet. When I get hungry I eat greek yogurt, usually with a squirt of Water Enhancer (like Mio) or have broth. I'm suppossed to have 3 ensure nutritional drinks a day and I usually make an additional shake myself with Protein powder. Also I have been having Miso soup- I figure its really a vegetable broth if you strain out the seaweed & tofu. It just feels more substantial to me. I can have sugar free Jello or pudding or popsicles but I just dont care for any of those. I ended up trying each but feeding the rest to the Grandbabies. Plus of course lots of water and ice tea. I'm not starving, sometimes I feel kind of empty and my stomach does growl loudly when its getting time for some yogurt. I do have to keep reminding myself at the grocery store- you can't have that as I start to reach for something. Good luck to you both, it will be fine. -
You should be excited! I'm excited for you. You are looking great!

DON'T HIDE IT U WILL HELP OTHER'S
vegasneon replied to ImLooznit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I plan to be open and tell people AFTER I have surgery. I just don't want any flack about me going to Mexico or ANYTHING before hand. I don't really care what people think or say to me- I'm just not in the mood for it until it's over. I'm getting so excited as the time gets nearer though that I am just about busting to tell more people- If I knew they would keep their mouths shut and not give me their (probably) uneducated opinion on this surgery I would be more open now. I know that sounds terrible and judgemental. -
This is exactly my husband to the same weight. Sunday he was eating for 2 HOURS! Seriously! He had dinner and a snack and another snack and another snack- it was neverending. During that 2 hours I had a Protein shake and some Water.
-
I think that's why the husbands don't really get it- how hard it is for us to lose. My husband could always lose just by cutting out seconds- and his firsts were still huge. He is the hardest part of losing weight and always has been. He will try to entice me to eat badly when he knows I am on a diet so once I have surgery I will just have to consistently tell him NO. The hard part will be when he brings home 4 cartons of ice cream even though neither of us should eat it (he is diabetic). I love ice cream. I keep telling him don't even think about me eating out or eating a lot of things for the next 6 months. I have to be over dramatic about it to have a chance that he will be more considerate.

I'm losing my hair!
vegasneon replied to usmcmorninngstar@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have read any kind of surgery is a shock to the body and can result in hair loss 3 to 6 months later. I think all we can do is get enough protein and vitamins and ride it out. I'm sure not looking forward to it because my hair is so thin and fine already. Ugh -
If you were me- looking at you- you would think 61 lbs since Jan was so freakin' awesome. When it's yourself going through it you think it isn't going fast enough, but it is. Congratulations- just keep doing what you are suppossed to.

LEARN A VALUABLE LESSON FROM MY MISTAKES
vegasneon replied to linda1000's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What phase after surgery did you start to use these? Would they both be mixable into Protein shakes or how would you suggest someone use them who is on liquids only? Or does anybody have constipation while still on liquids? I have a fear of constipation after having the worst episode of my life about 6 months ago. Thanks
