  1. Not married, but my SO and I have been together for nearly 8 years so basically haha. He'll be there during the surgery and for right after, but even though they said he can spend the night I think I'll be fine by myself. Our dog would miss him more

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Had my EGD today and begin my preop diet! I was very nervous for the EGD but it was fine, my throat hurt a little afterwards and the anesthesia made me sooo sleepy, I slept the whole day afterwards. The hospital was nice, it's where I'm having my sleeve done so it was cool to get to see it beforehand. It's all starting to seem more real to me.

my preop diet doesn't include any of that stuff...only the shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles and one cup of low sodium broth a day.

    Registered Nurse Sleevers!

I'm a nurse and I had planned to take only 3 weeks off, but after reading y'all's posts I probably will take at least 4. My wallet will suffer (had to take two months off unplanned this year) but I'd rather be safe...

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I am freaking out a bit, they had told me to "try to keep losing" before surgery in my other preop classes, which I had expected, and then at my last preop appt they said "lose a little more before surgery" which to me is like..10 lbs. Not 20. lol. When I expressed my concern about it the scheduler said that if I adhere to the liquid diet it shouldn't be hard. But I lose weight really slowly most of the time, so I'm kinda concerned...however what she had said was "you need to lose 20 lbs for your BMI to be under 50 otherwise we won't perform the surgery." Yet when I did the calculation, I actually only need to lose 10 lbs for my BMI to be under 50, so I think she told me 20 just to be safe and ensure that I keep losing weight. I'm going to do my best anyhow. I've read some people on this site losing like 15# or so during the liquids period. She kinda implied that I picked the later date just so I would be able to eat and have a food funeral during christmas/new years, but it's not so, I just want to make sure I'm doing everything they tell me to so I can safely have surgery. (They also offered me Dec 27th but my job won't let me take time off til after the new year, and there was NO WAY I was losing 20 lbs in 3 weeks.)

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

January 28th at Victory Medical Center with Dr. Kim. Super nervous! I could have done the 14th but they told me this week to lose 20 more lbs before the surgery so I thought I needed more time...I don't really get why because that wasn't mentioned in any of my other preop classes or anything but it's whatever. So far it's pretty difficult, I'm a little frustrated and keep thinking if I could lose 20 lbs that quick then I wouldn't be having the friggin surgery, lol.

    2013 November Sleevers

Thinking I will probably be in November. I have completed one of the three monthly classes, a sleep study, and bloodwork...cardiac clearance is scheduled for Oct 28th, and EGD and psych consult haven't been scheduled yet. My last nutrition class is 11/7/13 and I'm hoping to have everything done by then. I actually am going to try and get my insurance to waive the 3 month diet because my BMI is over 50 and I am currently on medical leave for work for another reason and don't know if I'll be able to take another leave. If I can then I will maybe be an October sleever! If not, probably January, because I had to give up all my vacation time for this medical leave I am in Dallas, TX and my surgeon is Dr. Kim.
