  1. I seen that some of you take Protein in one setting of anywhere from 40-60g at a time. My dietician said anything over 30g is a waste because your body can't absorb more than that at a time. Were you all told differently, or since some of it is a slow release protein does it not matter?

  2. Hello All' date='

I was sleeved 6/13 and have been doing well. More sore than painful. Someone mentioned spasms. I think that's what I have. Can someone give any advice? When I drink there's a quick gas pain in my chest and after the liquid goes down the spasm stops. Should I call the Doc?[/quote']

I was sleeved the 10th. I am having the exact same quick pain/spasm as you. It sounds like others are having the same issue somewhat. I will say 5 days out it is MUCH easier and lesser now than it was even two days ago so I think it is normal :)

  3. Got sleeved on Monday the 10th. Slept most of that day and didn't even get out of bed. Walked quite a bit on Tuesday and Wednesday before I was released to go home. Have really struggled getting in liquids or food...mainly due to the nausea. Nothing has come back up, but it sure don't like going down. All in all I'm very happy and am already trying harder on the food and liquids today :)

  5. Was supposed to begin two week liquid diet on Memorial Day but had family BBQ so didn't start until yesterday (I know...excuses excuses). Not enjoying the shakes so much and I haven't been hungry really, but the constant headache is the worst part by far. Luckily I hear the headache goes away after 3 or 4 days and I'm down 5 lbs already so I'm using that as ammunition to continue.

  6. Did you make a decision? I chose VSG mainly because I didn't want the malabsorptive issues that come with RNY. The malabsorption might mean quicker short-term weight loss but longer-term health repercussions. Also' date=' it is easier to take NSAIDs after VSG than RNY (though my surgeon allows them after RNY if you take a gastric protective agent). My surgeon prescribes Prilosec to everyone after VSG for 3 months and then starts step-down therapy. I needed to stay on the Prilosec and I'm fine. If I miss a dose, I do get heartburn. I don't mind being on it--I feel like it protects my smaller stomach. Also, make sure your surgeon checks for a hiatal hernia and corrects it during surgery if you have one. That could be causing your heartburn and the correction will help. I had one and I asked my surgeon how many patients do, and he said about 90%. They are very common! Good luck with whatever you choose. Lots of great support here.[/quote']

I did actually decide on VSG and am having it done on June 10th. Thank you for your advice, especially asking about the hiatal hernia. I will have to remember to ask about that day of surgery since I won't see him again until that day.

  7. Welcome my friend! I haven't had surgery yet (06/05), but I wanted to welcome you and reiterate what everyone else says as far as this being a great area to get all kinds of information...albeit sometimes too much information!! You will learn a lot and I wish you the best.

  8. A lot of us set for mid to late June. Good luck everybody and hope to hear how the meeting with the surgeon went. Does anybody know if they give you a set amount of weight they want u to lose pre op or do they just tell u a set time like a two week liquid diet? I fear getting this far and then not being able to lose the prescribed amount of pre op weight.

My doctor never mentioned trying to lose a specific amount of weight. From my understanding, it is more of just a liver shrinking thing.

  9. Hello everyone. Been stalking the forums for a few weeks and decided to bite the bullet and join so I can get some feedback on something that I am seriously having trouble with deciding on, which is RNY or VSG?? I have been submitted to insurance for approval, and do not have a surgery date yet...so I need to make my decision quick. I am leaning towards the sleeve, but have concerns. Those concerns are: VSG not being restrictive enough (because I know how I have been over the years) and I already take heartburn medication and understand that issue gets worse. I don't want to lose too much muscle, don't like the thought of intestines being rerouted, and don't particularly want to deal with the dumping issues of the RNY. If anyone could give thoughts or opinions on how your decision was made, I would very much appreciate it. By the way, I'm male and 6'4" 345 lbs.
