4 days post op and I've advanced my diet

    I've got no words...
  2. It confuses me when people use the word "we" in their posts. Who are they including in their thoughts? "We are all" is even more maddening. Don't we think?

    Thinking About Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Uh, weight loss surgery isn't just for old people, you know. Sometimes it's the best option, no matter what your age. What a silly thing to say? Evidently you can't interpret what you read because I said I didn't know her health issues nor did I know how long she had been trying to lose her weight. I simply stated that at 28 if she isn't liking exercise and sensible eating than wls is not a good choice because a young woman at 28 should really make surgery a last resort. Next time read something over before you open your big mouth. This is a life altering surgery and everyone can't make the changes this surgery requires. I was just letting her know her options.Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App Let's start throwing out personal attacks! Awesome way to support your viewpoint! That said, I wish I'd done this at 28. I lost 80 with WWs at that age, gained it back. Lost 88 with phentermine at 33, gained it back. Lost 60 with exercise at 36, gained it back. Lost 112 three and a half years ago with WLS. Maintaining like a dream.

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / MMA training post-surgery?

@@Dub and I know this really hot girl who got her black belt pre-op and her second degree/certified instructor belt post op. I do a combo of TKD, Ju-Jitsu and Hapkido. I do more sparring than grappling because it's against my training to let them get me down on the ground, but the Hapkido element has taught me what to do if that happens. I wasn't allowed to train at all until I was 6 weeks out. I wasn't allowed to contact spar until 3 months out and I was't allowed to contact spar with lower belts (those people are dangerous!!) for six.

For those of you who did not have "food funerals":

Philly cheesesteak is one of my favorite foods! We have WhichWich here that scoops all the bread out of the sub roll and that's an awesome thing now that I am cleared for all foods. I can only eat a quarter of the 6" but that means leftovers for me a a half for the hubby. When I was in my losing stage, I would buy the rarest roast beef I could find, lay out a slice, put a mozzarella cheese stick inside with some red onion), roll it up and heat it on all sides in a pan until the cheese was melty. Cured my craving for steak and cheese without the "guilt". One roll up was the perfect amount, too. And yes, I IDID dip it in a little mayo. I often added avocado, too, but I am weird like that.

For those of you who did not have "food funerals":

Not at all. What's to regret? I now wear a size 8 jeans, I've been at a healthy weight because of surgery for 3.5 years and have regained my life. I can run, dance all night, climb sand dunes with my family, do mud runs, shop in any store I please, wear high heels without pain... Why would I stuff my face one last time, only to add to the weight I wanted to turn around and lose? I ate enough food in my 40 years to fill MORE than my lifetime share. Now I can still eat whatever I want, whenever I want, I just eat a small portion and enjoy each bite instead of just shoveling it in mindlessly. Life is great. No food funeral needed. Besides, food isn't dead, no reason to mourn it and definitely no reason to Celebrate it.

  8. There is a huge difference between "appearing perfect" and following a doctor's PRESCRIBED plan. No, it's not easy, but I felt that not only was it critical to my well being, but also critical to my success. Why would I follow another doctor's plan? I entrusted MY doctor with MY life so personally, that's the only plan that matters to me.

Did you ever...? (a bit gross)

What are we disagreeing about? I never considered chewing and spitting and I did liquids for over a month.
  11. It was just sort of a silly title for the post. The first time I drank it was only 1 sip and that night I looked over my plan and it doesn't mention it one way or another past 8 weeks. I will mention it to him at my next check up but it doesn't seem to be hurting anything and like I said it's only a few sips. Why did your doc make you wait til 6 months? His plan actually called for a year. He gave me an exception because I was losing steadily and compliant everywhere else.

    Mashed potatoes? Carbs?

I was allowed two tablespoons of mashed potatoes my first day of puree but after that, they were a no go. They don't allow for much room for real Protein. The carbs will only create more cravings for carbs and they aren't the best nutritional intake. What does your plan say about mashed potatoes?

Did you ever...? (a bit gross)

You shouldn't assume that everyone who requires WLS is automatically a food addict. If you were to take a normal weight person and force them on a month long liquid diet, do you think they might chew a favorite food and spit it out for the sensation? You better friggin' believe they would. I realize it's not a healthy behavior and have no intentions on continuing, hence the frozen pickle juice. I agree that not all fat people who seek WLS are food addicts, but I can tell you that without a doubt, not everyone who is on a month long liquid diet considers chewing and spitting. I never considered it once as a fat person. It's extremely dangerous and a very slippery slope towards a real eating disorder. When you chew (or lick), your digestive system starts producing acid in anticipation of real food hitting your tummy in a few moments. When that doesn't happen, the excess acid is still hanging out with nothing to break down, so being bored, it works it's magic on the lining of your stomach. This could be ulcer territory you are headed into. Chewing and spitting is also a mild form of bulimia. No LOL about that.

I do not understand pimento cheese. AT ALL.
  15. @@MFM008 Poor choices don't create structures.
  16. Why is this a "confession"? Seems to me it's simply a choice you are making, good or not so good, depending on your surgeon's plan. I am just over 3.5 years out and I drink Coke Zero. I didn't do so until I had permission at 6 months post op and I was only given permission because I was 100% compliant on all my other dietary restrictions. What does your doctor say?
  17. In my world, there is no such thing as "cheating". I am an adult and I make choices, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. I chose to stick to my prescribed diet pre and post op 100%. I respected myself and my family too much to allow a few bites of food derail my success and quite frankly, my life. There is no food out there worth the risk of a leak, an abscess or any other complication, in my opinion. Is it easy? Not always. Are you worth it? Absolutely.

Did you ever...? (a bit gross)

Yeah, why not? She liked it.Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App My dog likes to drink out of the toilet and roll in dead stuff, but that doesn't make it a good healthy option for her. Urp. The thought of chewing something and feeding it to another living being just makes me a little ... ew. Yeah, it's a bit on the gross side but I don't think 4 bites will necessarily kill her or anything. She is still breathing and acting like normal since you seem so concerned. . She also got part of the fat trim that I won't chew on... because I personally find it gross. To each their own. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App No offense or judgement intended at all!! I was just making an observation. I definitely didn't mean to imply you would harm your pup.
