  1. I've NEVER been to a Whole Foods in my life, but I'll be shopping there later this week. I'm 1 month out and can tolerate most foods, so far. I'm sure it's going to be a little overwhelming, so I plan to make a little grocery list before I go... I need a little help.

What are your must-haves from Whole Foods??

  2. The reason for the metformin wasn't because of diabetes which has been confusing all the nurses as well. I was prescribed it for my PCOS. I never ever had irregular blood sugar which was odd but my weight made me a candidate for pre diabetes so I think she kept an eye on it just in case. I have never checked my blood sugar or even had regular lab work for it, although I do regularly check my thyroid and other levels, so I'm not even sure what to do! Mg primary doctor never told me that blood sugar was a concern just that she was prescribing it! :(

Although, it's usually used for blood sugar, it can also be prescribed for PCOS as well as for weight loss and insulin resistance. No confusion here. Lol. If you haven't had a problem yet w/bs that's fantastic! If it wasn't used for blood sugar, then I wouldn't worry about checking it. :)

  3. Just read the bottle for metformin and it CLEARLY says do not crush. Needless to say I've had an absolutely horrible experience at this hospital with these nurses and I will NEVER go back there. Not only did she force me to eat chocolate pudding which pissed my doc off big time because he had not done my swallow study yet but she also gave me not one but 2 doses of a crushed med that she was not supposed to!!! I'm just all around pissed off at the whole experience. Surgery was a success but so far every moment of misery is directly related to carelessness on a nurse there. 100% better now that I am HOME and caring for myself, aside from comfort issues. I am going to cautiously avoid all meds until I meet with my doc on the 16th. Thank you for giving me concern to check my bottle!!!

I am a nurse and I do work in a hospital. I know you are not "supposed to" crush Metformin/Glucophage, which is why I said that... BUT sometimes in hospitals Drs allow us to bc the patients are under such close care by us with lab work and frequent blood sugar checks. But I (personally) would never tell someone to take it crushed at home.

But you can absolutely crush your synthroid! COMPLETLY safe to do so.

And I agree w/ you on being home-- that's why I chose a doc who does outpatient surgeries. ;)

If you don't already, I'd suggest checking your blood sugar a couple times a day. You can buy a meter at the drug store for under $10. If you blood sugar gets above 200, give your doc a call.

  4. You should NOT crush every type of medication!! Phone your doc to be sure. As a simple rule, if the bottle says "don't crush or chew"- then don't.

You CAN crush your synthroid but your metformin - probably not. I'm surprised you're still on bc so soon after surgery. My doc took me off. Really not sure about your 'statin.

If you have any type of extended release, they cannot be crushed.

  5. Hi. I just started exercising again, which I live, but i pulled something in my lower left back and the pain is shooting down my left leg. I'm so bummed bc I usually take Advil for this and it really helps but I think I can't take that now (9 wks out). I guess I just have to rest, but other suggestions appreciated. Oh, I also have a deteriorating disc btwn L5 and L6, so that is probably in play here as well.

The pain you're describing shooting down your leg(especially with your back history) sounds more like a nerve than just a pulled muscle. You may need to speak to your doctor to see if a steroid would be needed (to reduce the inflammation).

NSAIDS are never recommended close to any surgery bc of the increased bleeding risk, but as others have said, also to protect our stomachs from ulcers (ouch!)

I hope you feel better soon!!!

  6. I started eating a boiled egg too fast, kinda forgot about my sleeve. It was embarrassing since I threw up in public. Not to mention acid reflux won't go away, I want the madness to end. It's getting harder to get enough fluids in because of it :(

    Any advice please?

    20 lbs down :)

I threw up for the 1st time on July 4th (vsg 6/11) and it was eggs too! And for the same reason you did-- ate too fast. Ick! Hopefully this is the last time for you. I'm paranoid now--- chew chew chew, slow slow slow. Lol
