  1. 1 package of beans, 1 onion, 1 bell pepper, smoked sausage for him, and seasoning. Cooked for 4 hours- it was wonderful. Of course, I'd suggested adding a little unflavored Protein to your portion. I try to add protein to anything I can.
  2. Breakfast: most of an egg and a wedge of laughing cow cheese Lunch: Protein shake (Premier, chocolate) Dinner: white Beans my hubby made--- awesome! Snack: And later tonight Ill have a little Greek yogurt

8weeks post op oz of protein

I was sleeved on 6/11 and I eat 2oz portions of protein. I wouldn't go back for a second helping though.
  4. Nope. Each surgeon is different. Each patient is different.

    Recovery

Everyone is different. I didn't really have pain, but I did have a whole lot of nausea the first 24hrs. That was a little rough. And I really didn't have a whole lot of energy until week 2 (when I started Protein & vitamins). Hope you feel better soon!!!
  6. I never learned to ride a bike (without training wheels) -- i blame this on my best friend- his backyard backed into mine, so we never had an excuse to leave the yard! lol...My husband will be teaching me. I'm thinking it may be easier to learn as an adult?? We'll see!

    What to eat

I LOVE that I have no cravings yet! How far out are you? What types of foods are you allowed now? To get Protein, I like fish, soft cheeses, chicken, eggs, Greek yogurt... And for veggies, I'm liking mushy steamed broccoli, carrots, sautéed peppers, etc. I like cooking with onions, garlic, bell peppers, v8, sugar free Teriyaki sauce... Anything to add a little flavor without TOO much calories.
  8. Or I should say, drank not ate.
  9. You ate healthy and exercised--- that is doing stuff!! Lol keep it up! Congratulations! I have a list of non food rewards and I love it!... They include a bicycle (I never learned to ride, don't laugh), Sigma makeup brushes, a mini vacation, and I'm working on making up a couple smaller ones.

    Ate Red Lobster tonight (pic)

I think I may start sharing like you said. I don't eat enough for my own plate!
  11. Weight this morning: 201... Sooo close! Lol

    VSG: status symbol?

There is nothing to be ashamed of... Would a diabetic be ashamed of a low sugar diet? Would a heart attack survivor be ashamed of a low sodium diet and exercise?? NO! I'm very happy with my decision to tell people. I am an open book. If it weren't for others being open about their surgery, I may have never made the choice to change my life.
  13. So, tonight will be my first time back to work. I'm a little nervous about how I will get in all my protein and water. I'm 6 weeks out and can tolerate just about any foods. Any of you work nights? How do you handle the flip-flopping? I would love to hear from those of you who work long shifts (12-16 hrs). I know I'm not supposed to have water with me at work, but I plan on it anyway. (They can kiss my slightly smaller but firmer @$$.) LOL
  14. Hey y'all! Just wanted to say that I had a fantastic night at work. It was slower than usual, so I was able to eat lunch (2oz canned tuna w/ a Laughing Cow wedge) and a snack (cottage cheese). And I did choose to have 2 protein shakes yesterday. So, everything worked out well. Just hope I can keep it up! Thanks for all your help!!!

    It's official! 7/29!

I love using small plates and utensils. And bring Chapstick with you. And gas x helped me a lot too.
  16. My doctor told me not to track calories, but do track protein. I guess everyone's different. I only count protein and water intake.
  17. That's kinda how I feel too-- I'd rather get the protein in than have actual food. Thanks!
  18. AWESOME!! I'm hoping we get some good advice-- it's not every job that you can't eat whenever you want. My friend told me, "Just eat at your desk." Haha.. It's cute that she thinks I get time to sit. Tonight won't be so bad bc I'm working as House Supervisor- so who's going to fuss me for drinking at work? Me? Lol But when I go work as a staff nurse, I know I'll have a little trouble with the eating plan.
  19. Ok, I have NEVER been on Coumadin, but I do know a little about general surgery and Coumadin (it may be different for bariatric sx). Usually the surgeon will want the patient's INR (you might already know about that- it is the blood test done to check the "thinness" of the blood- simply put) in a certain range. USUALLY it is still an elevated, or therapeutic, level- but may not be as high as it normally is on Coumadin. Sometimes patients require vitamin K injections to thicken the blood and bring the INR level down to a number that the surgeon is willing to do sx. Every surgeon had their own range they like. Hope this helps a little.
  20. I guess the problem isn't what I COULD pack, but more what I SHOULD pack. I do have access to a fridge, microwave, and toaster. But the problem is I may only have one chance to eat during the night.(it's pretty unpredictable). I just want to be prepared for that. So I guess the real question is... If I only get one chance to eat in a period of 14 hours, what should it be??
  21. Do y'all think it would be ok to replace a 2nd meal with a protein shake just on the days I work?? It seems better than not getting enough protein. Right???
  22. Going back to work for the first time since May. Eek! A little nervous...

  23. I was strolling through some FaceBook photos and decided to put these two together. I feel like I can see my weight loss so much better when looking at photos vs looking in the mirror.
  24. Ok, this is my limited knowledge about loose skin: 1) genetics plays a role in your skin health (can't control that) 2) Age may affect the elasticity and hydration of you skin (can't control that either) Things you can control... 3) hydration- keeping your body hydrated helps your skin cells stay hydrated 4) moisturizing- I like to use a firming lotion 5) exfoliation- using a scrub to exfoliate your skin increases blood flow to the area, increasing cell turnover. 6) exercise- both cardio and strength training 7) good nutrition- essential for healthy cells 8) I've heard of using compression garments- the idea behind this is the compression helps to adhere the skin to underlying tissue (in my opinion, the damage has already been done, not sure on the validity of this) Nothing will prevent someone from having sagging skin. I'm hoping these things help though. I'll just have to wait and see!
