Hi Everyone, I am back from Tijuana and am now officially banded. YeeHaww...Everything went extremely well and I met some new friends. Today has been the "worst" day for belching, burping and I just wish that I would pass more gas(i know gross but true) The first thing I put into my mouth after surgery without even thinking was the dinner mint on the bed. God I just annoy the hell out of myself anyway I made up for that by taking a good long walk. I just want to be sure that the only things that I can have for the next 2 weeks is broth, Jello, popsicles only watery ones no pulp, clear juices no pulp, broth cheweable kids vitamens. If there is anything else let me know, but I'm not really hungary and when I do eat it is painful, not painful it just feels like i ate too quickly or something. And then I burp like a sailor. I am so excited to start my new life. I hope you feel better really soon. You are not alone. Doctors should not be worshipped and your situation is exactly why I believe there should be NO tort reform. As long as the foxes are watching the hen houses and there is no resources for patients...well long story short they NEED to get their asses sued! My doctor said that if i eat too much or the wrong thing my body will tell me and it will hurt. He said to call him and he would advise going back to liquids for a few days. Hi Nicole, I just had my surgery on Wednesday in Tijuana MX w. Dr. Ortiz. I can't believe how easy it was. I remember getting up and checking under the covers to make sure something was done. I was in good spirits and really enjoyed sleeping through recovery. I walked around 30 miniutes after I had the surgery. Right now I feel really bloaty and gassy right now. I've only eaten popsicles and tea and gaterade because I really want to heal well and lose weight of course. I also belch ALOT, I guess its the extra gas...My sister called me on my cell phone 5min after I got out of surgery. I did not tell anyone including my family that I was going to have this done. I talked to her and said that it was still early and my buisness meetings were taking a lot out of me. She said "oh you sound groggy" and that's it. I worried needlessly everyone was supportive and understanding. I talked to patients who just had the surgery and that really put my worries to rest. Once you tell him your symptoms they can usually tell you what is happening.

I just got home from Tijuana and am officicially a bandster...YEA...Dr. Ortiz did my surgery. I cannot believe how easy the entire experience has been so far. I had to look under my covers to see if they actually did anything! I burp a lot though. Does this mean that I am drinking my tea or coffee too fast? thanks for all the feedback I reallly really appreciated it. I called Dr. Susan Brinkley she is a bariatric doctor in Maryland. She has been banded by Dr. Sanchez in Monterray. Her nurse said that I should call them for a fill when I do not feel any restriction. The nurse said that it should be anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. I am going to Mexico alone. I haven't told anyone except my primary doctor. I was planning to have my first fill done by dr. ortiz because he uses flouroscopy. I am having the surgery wed the 16th of Feb and return friday the 18th and am taking the weekend to relax, I hope everything will go well. Still a bit worried though. By the way American doctors won't do the surgery because I don't meet the BMI standard. I don't want to have to gain weight to meet it either. Anyways thanks again. Dear Kathy, Thank you so much for responding. I really appreciate the feedback. By the way my BMI is 31 I think...and my doctor didn't even know what lap-banding was until I explained it to him. I decided to go with Dr. Ortiz because he is a proctor and trains American doctors, I am told that he has done over 1000 lap band surgeries, and I don't have to take an extra flight to Monterray. I live in Maryland. So I'd rather just take one flight to San Diego. I am not happy with having to pay 9500.00, but I looked at the big picture. I also talked to a nurse who had it done and she gave me a lot of feedback. The only reason I told my primary doctor is so that he would be able to prescribe something more for pain in case I needed it. I am going to ask him to give me a prescription for lower dose phentaramine so I don't get hungry and let my tummy heal for the 1st 6 weeks. The coreg is a beta blocker used for high blood pressure it basically slows the heart rate down. I don't know if that is so safe. So tell me why you chose Dr. Kuri? Where is he located? Let me know. I am still going through with the surgery, although I haven't told anyone. Thanks again,

I don't know where to look for before and after pictures. I don't know how to find out if anyone has replied to my post. I guess I'm not that savvy on this website. can someone help me to navigate this. I am looking for pictures showing how scars look after surgery. thanks

I don't know if this helps but I have been doing a lot of reading and what I have seen is that erosion is a myth. Maybe I'm wrong let me know...I hope I am because I just love a good margarita w/ cuervo and grand mariner...Tammy

Dear Zoe, Do you know if your doctor will do a lap band for someone like me who does not meet the criteria here? I'm 5'6 and 195. I don't want to gain anymore weight and have been struggling all my life. Any advice would be so helpful..thanks tammy

Dear Babs, I feel the same way and I haven't been banded yet. Let me explain, I am 5'6'' and 195. This is the biggest I have ever been and do not want to get any bigger. I have noticed that I do not get the attention that I used to...I don't get 2nd looks from men like i used to. I am in a sales position that is highly competitive and I feel like I look--fat and ugly put I put on a mask because I have to sell and act happy and enthusisatic. So I want to have this banding done. I am tired of constant struggle with weight. I do not want to keep journals, food logs calorie counters etc.etc. I just want to have a built in mechanism that says "okay that's enough eating". Tell me about your experience in Mexico would you do it again? Any suggestions are welcome...thanks tammy
