  1. Well I was sleeved on Tuesday and I must say it has not been too bad. The hospital did a great job of controlling pain. I just mostly slept while at the hospital except when I was walking. I was home Wednesday by 1pm. Still pretty tired so I took it easy. Working on my fluids. Ate a small portion of Greek yogurt this morning. Added a little Protein Powder in it and took tiny bites. Showered this morning to so overall I think everything is going good.

  2. Hi!

I am low BMI'er. When I first went to my surgeon I was 33.1 BMI. My surgery date is this Tuesday, April 16. After 10 days of the pre-op diet, my BMI this morning is 30.6. I am having the surgery because I have tried many different ways to lose weight and it has only gone up over the years. Now that I am menopausal, I don't think I could bring it back down any other way. I am fortunate that I do not have many obesity-related health problems (only reflux) yet, but I am having the surgery to ensure that I don't develop them. My family is chock full of heart disease, so I know being obese is not a smart place to be with my genetics.

I was pretty nervous about the upcoming surgery last week - wondering if this was the right thing to do - but I have become surprisingly calm this weekend. I seem to be ready for this new phase of my life.

  3. I mixed the unflavored unjury in orange juice and really didn't taste it at all. I haven't tried it in other things yet, but I plan on it post-surgery. I really like the Unjury chocolate Splendor mixed with skim milk. I also like the Unjury strawberry Sorbet mixed with Crystal Lite pink lemonade.

I have to have some variety in taste. Unjury is about the only Protein shake I have found that I can tolerate.

I'm on day 2 of my liquid diet. I hope I don't burn out on it before I work my way back to real foods!

  4. My surgery is April 16. So far, I have told my husband, adult daughter and my immediate family (parents and siblings). My sister had the sleeve in January so she and my husband will be my primary support group. My parents reacted negatively to her when she told them about her upcoming surgery but now that they have seen how well she is doing, they are supportive for me. At work, I just told them I was having hiatal hernia surgery and needed time off. I didn't want any negative reactions. After the surgery p, I don't think I will mind telling those who ask how I am losing the weight, but only time will tell.

  5. This site has truly been wonderful on this journey. I too have Dr. Yu in Houston as my surgeon and my date is 05/20. Which hospital will you be using. I know he goes to a few different ones. I will be at Park Plaza. So I will really want to hear about your experience. I just got my sampler pack fron unjury protien powders. I'm going to try and do the pre-op diest for a few days to start testing different tastes. I've tried to Premier Protein shakes and they are tolerable.

Misslady, my surgery will take place at Victory Hospital. I ordered the sampler pack from Unjury also. I had the chocolate tonight and it was quite good, so I am feeling better. I also tried the Unjury unflavored in orange juice and it was good -couldn't taste the Protein at all.

I've tried the Premier as well. Tolerable but Unjury is a lot better tasting -in my opinion.

I'll post updates and I hope we can stay in touch. Good luck to you as well.

  6. I am new to VST and have found it very helpful in doing my research on the sleeve. My doctor is Dr. Yu in Houston and my surgery date is set for April 16. I am 54 and have become obese gradually over the last 10 - 15 years. I do not have any comorbidities but have decided to have the surgery to ensure my future health. My family has lots of heart disease and I know I need to change my eating and exercise habits before I develop serious health problems. My baby sister (40 yrs old) had the surgery in Dallas in January and is doing really well. She has had a pretty easy time of it - I hope it runs in the family!!

I am dreading the Pre-op diet - Protein Shakes are yucky to me - but I am determined to push my way through to get to the goal.

Excited and nervous at the same time.
