    12 day stall? Help!

I think it's important to remember that we need to be open minded and not have to much expectation on how much and how fast. At 4 weeks post op I am down 32 lbs. to me that is a miracle that I was able to loose 28 lbs in 21 days. It took me a week to loose the other 4 lbs. I have been in a little stall but not concerned. I set mini goals so I have something to feel accomplished. 30 was my first goal. When I feel myself get impatient, I have to think about all the times I tried to loose wight prior to surgery. It could take me a whole year to loose 30 lbs and I literally felt like I melted 30lbs over night. I am excited to continue to lose and I know that it will happen.

Day 4 Post op What can I drink?

I am 4 weeks post op, and I still have a hard time eatting! I can drink about 32 oz of water, and I usually can get my protein in by drinking shakes, Greek yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese and refried beans. Although I am on solids I still prefer soft foods. I had a few bites of roast and that went down well, but when I made a chicken breast it didn't settle all that good. Tonight I will try a boneless skinless thigh from the crock pot. During liquids I lived off broth, water, crystal light and sf jello. And protein shakes. There are times that I still feel weak. I believe for myself that the weakness is coming from loosing so much so fast and causing muscle deterioration. On another note, I do believe that everyone's recovery is different and every surgeon gives different post op rules. You will find what works for you, might not work for someone else. This is definitely a journey of discovery. Good luck to everyone.

    VSG Urban Legends

This thread has been a great insight, but also a great laugh! I have truly enjoyed the jokes. Speaking of alcohol, I am nervous to have a drink! My surgeon said after 1 month it would be ok. I have a couple weddings coming up, and of course don't want to have one drink and become the life of the party. I understand alcohol effects people differently. What were some of your experiences after the first drink? What do you like to drink since you can't drink soda? My other concern is how many calories that are in liquor. I surely don't want to not be able to eat all day because I choose to have a drink. I will really have to question wether or not it's actually worth it.

    How Many Carbs?

I am getting ready to start solids on Friday! My plan is to eat my protein, then my veggies before I even think about trying to add a starch. I get most my carbs daily from fat free milk, Greek yogurt and fat free cottage cheese. These things feel safe for me so I will continue to consume as a snack and protein supplement!
  5. This is very exciting, yet bittersweet! I am going to clean out my closet today! Meaning I will have maybe 3 outfits that fit. I know it's crazy but when I put on my pre surgery clothes and they are baggy every where I feel disgusting! I will not be spending alot I money on clothes until I reach my goal weight. Thank God summer is around the corner and I can live in summer dresses. But for now, this crap needs to go!

    Where is my March Sleeves?

I was sleeved 3/18! Down 31lbs, no pre-op diet. Congrats to all the successful losers!!!!
  7. I will be 1 month post op on Thursday, I was sleeved 3/18. I at times still feel weak and tired. At the same time my minds has so much energy, but my body doesn't match. Lol I seriously struggle with washing my hair in the shower. It hurts to hold my arms in the air. I am a full time student and I returned to school 2 weeks post op. I meet my protein requirements for the most part daily. Consuming water is my challenge. I can usually get 16.9 oz is. Not good!!!! Puréed food does not look appealing to me, I usually do a protein shake for breakfast, just about 40g of protein. Then I do cottage cheese and Greek yogurt! And sometimes a string cheese. I'm nervous to start solids because I am afraid of hurting myself. I have hurt myself with just eggs. It doesn't feel good.

    Stomach hurts

Thanks everyone! Not really a pain, more so tender. I was playing a lot with my 3 boys over the weekend, and probably rougher than I should have. Hopefully that's all it is.
  9. I'm almost 4 weeks post op and for some reason today, my stomach feels like I have a pulled muscle. Feels bruised almost. Has anyone else experienced this? It just started last night.

    Nice to meet you too!
  12. I have lost 26 lbs in the last 15 days. I feel great, a little tired but I am freezing cold. I am taking my vitamins and trying to meet protein and water requirements. Lets just say I do better with protein than water. Lol! Has anyone else experienced this?

    Any seattle sleevers ?

Hi everyone! I am from Puyallup and I was sleeved 3-18-13 in Mexicali by Dr. Aceves! I would love to get some local support and maybe try out a support group! I am 3 weeks post op and down 28lbs!
  14. I think you will be fine. My father was very concerned about this as well, but I went and had my surgery with Dr. Aceves and my mom came as my companion. Not once were we terrified to be outside. Stay in at night and you will be just fine.

    Bizarre trend?

I am a MX sleever and I do have a nutritionist available to to me, a PCP and the surgeon! I can call anyone on my surgeons team at anytime for help, questions or concerns! Just because I went to MX doesn't mean that they are not professional or supportive! I check in every 10 days with the nutritionist/ surgeon in Mexico! And Dr. Aceves and his team are remarkable, and did not leave me in the dark about how I might feel afterwards.

    Bizarre trend?

Just an opinion here, but I think that the people who possibly regret VSG are people who cannot commit to a different life style and who are probably now gaining. I was sleeved march 18th and of course there was a few days after coming home that head hunger got the best of me and I thought gosh what have I done to myself. But it gets easier everyday! I can look at food that I loved so much and turn my nose at it because I know just how sick it would make me. How do you regret watching the numbers on the scale go down? Or all the energy from not over loading your body with greasy fat foods? I am a new sleever and I know I have a long road ahead of me. I know that I will have to make some hard choices, but I also know that one day I will be able to figure out how to create my favorite meals in a healthier fashion and I won't feel as if I have missed out on anything! I look at it like this, people said they regretted getting married! I still chose to get married. Not everyone experience is the same. But if you give up because of someone else's experience you will never know if it would have worked for you!

How do you know when to stop?

I get the hiccups, runny nose and sometimes the liquid seems to stay right in my throat causing cheat discomfort and a desire to spit up. But I'm still only on full liquids and I can tell by discomfort that I have had enough for a while. I have a hard enough time drinking my portion shakes and water, so I don t actually eat much of anything because it doesn't sound appealing. Nor do I feel hungry.

    Official Weigh In!

Amanda, I am so excited for you! I told you it would be a successful day. I was sleeved immediately after Amanda, with Dr. Aceves, and I am down 25lbs post op. it's amazing to just melt away. I must say I am waiting for the stall because I know it's coming, but until them I'm enjoying each time I weigh.

    Liquid Diet Questions

I didn't have to do a pre-op diet, but I will tell you Once you are home from surgery and your in a liquid diet you will still have to cook for your family and smell yummy food. There has to be a lot of mental self talk sometimes. I am 12 days post op and just started my full liquids. Today I will be making cup cakes and potato salad for Easter tomorrow. It's very difficult to make things you love and not be able to taste your product. While everyone is enjoying Easter dinner, I will be sip sip sipping on some Soup and Water. You have to get past the me mental, and sometimes that's the hardest.

    Finally, something that tastes GOOD!

Carnation instant breakfast has a lot of sugar (19g). In a serving. Do you use a full serving?

    Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story

Yikes that's scary! I experienced green pee, but that was because of the nasty blue dye leak test, however, I did not have the runs! Took a week to have a BM! I had a wonderful experience at Almetar hospital with Dr. Aceves. No waiting for anything but ice. Lol! I went second that morning so I hung out for a few hours, was preped, socialized and just tried to calm my nerves. Patient coordinator was outside our doors from 7 am until about 4:30pm. Anything we needed she was there. I'm sorry you had the experience you had. On the other hand some of the other stuff is just part of the operation. Everyone's bodies react differently! Good luck on your journey.

    SURGERIES IN MAY!

I did! On the 18th of this month. It was a great experience, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Everyone speaks English except for the nurses, but it's easy to communicate for the most part! The biggest tip I could give you is to take GasX strips with you! You will be so thankful you did! And I am so glad my sleeve sister did, because I needed them. Lol. They give you a run down of everything that will occur, you will not be blindsided by anything. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos have amazing bed side manor. The anastesiologoist (sp) is amazing, hospital was very clean and nice, and so was the hotel.
