I'm so sorry you're having such a bad experience! That's just unbelievable to me. I hope you get home safe & sound & can then begin healing in a better environment. Take care of yourself!

    Laproscopic sleeve gastrectomy

Yeah, these first few days have been rough for me, too...feeling like crap, can't keep anything in my system long enough to give me any nutrients...just sucky, all around. Plus, there was so much preparation for the actual day, that I was already exhausted going into surgery. Each day is a little better, though. Take care!

    Laproscopic sleeve gastrectomy

Hi, Philly & welcome. I was sleeved on the 19th, so I'm right where you are. I was having poop issues, too, but mine was too much, too often. I added in kefir (liquid yogurt) yesterday & today has been way better. You have got to get the liquids in, though...dehydration is a serious issue, don't put yourself in that position.

    What happens

Vixey, I think a lot depends on the psychologist & the surgeon, as well as exactly why the person was not cleared. There are some reasons that might be able to be worked out in a pretty short time frame, but there are other issues that could be far more serious. My guess is that if you are not cleared the psych will give you a full explanation as to why & you can then see what the options are. I wouldn't worry about it, though. I think the number of folks who don't clear the psych eval are pretty low. Good luck to you!

I was also sleeved on the 19th, and my surgeon has me on 2 weeks of clear liquids & skim milk before I can move to 2 more weeks on full liquids. I'm generally feeling a little better each day, but I wish I could add protein powder to the milk. I'm using Unjury chicken soup, which has been great. It's definitely a challenge to get the fluids in, even though I can drink a little faster than they recommend.

I'm doing OK, Amy. I'm struggling a little with diarrhea, so trying really hard to stay hydrated. I wasn't expecting to have to do clears for 2 full weeks after, but I'm trying to stick with it & still get the nutrients I need. The chicken soup has been great for me. How are you doing?

    Post op

I'm 6 days post op. I'm burping, but not releasing gas from the other end. I am, however, having very frequent & liquid-y poops, which may be why there's no gas buildup down there. I just called my doc's office, too. This pooping situation has GOT to get better!

Vermilly, can you try the unjury chicken Soup? I am on all clears for 2 weeks post op & my doc doesn't include Protein Shakes with that. They OK'd me to use the chicken soup made with Water & I've had it a bunch. Also, what about unflavored Protein powder mixed into Crystal Light or something? That's still slightly sweet, but not the overwhelming sweet of the premade shakes.
  11. Yes, dammit. Well, you know down here we do love our crazy people. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3KQgulBzh0
  12. Haha, Clayton county is about an hour north of me. Why do these crazy folks have to give GA a bad rep??

    Secrets

Personally, I am a "teller". If there is anyone in my life who has had negative or judgmental thoughts, they have (wisely) kept those thoughts to themselves. I have received a huge amount of support, encouragement, praise, and love from every corner. However, I believe that we must each do whatever we need to in order to ensure our success with this tool. If that means limiting the amount of people you tell, then limit away & don't let anybody tell you that keeping a secret is bad or wrong. There is no one "right" way, it's just what is best for each of us. Good luck to you!

Did ur spouse stay at hospital

I know how you feel, hugiloo. I am 4 days post-op. My surgery was Wed & I came home Friday. My hubs stayed with me at the hospital on Wed til around 8:00 or so, and was back around 8:00 on Thursday morning. He could have stayed overnight, but I didn't want him to do that. The sleeper chair thing in the room would have killed his back & I needed him to feel good so he could help take care of me. I was able to wear my own gown & robe, which somehow made me feel better. He left a little earlier on Thursday, once they decided to keep me there another night, and was back again Fri morning around 8:00. I had to do the bowel cleanse the night before surgery, so I was awake most of that night pooping. I took a shower in the morning before surgery & didn't take another one until Sat morning at home. I could have taken one at the hospital, but I just didn't have enough energy to deal with it there. My hubs had to help me in & out of the shower & he dried off my legs so I didn't have to bend over. My abdomen is still very sore when I move. In general, I feel pretty good, but if I move weird my belly definitely lets me know. Good luck and happy healing to you!

    Surgery Tomorrow

You won't have to miss any of those foods, at least not forever. The thing is, you won't be able to eat as much of them as before, but you can certainly have a couple of bites & feel fine with that. There may be certain foods that no longer agree with you, but that can happen to anybody. Some people develop allergies to things as they get older, or start getting heartburn from something they used to eat with no problem. Adjustments are a part of life, and this is certainly a big one. Seeing a counselor is a great idea, although I have to admit I am biased. I'm working on my masters degree in clinical mental health counseling, so that's definitely not an objective opinion. Do everything you can do to help ensure your own success.

    One day post op

Congrats!! I'm 3 days post op & have felt a little better each day. I'm still sore, but don't need pain med as frequently, and I'm sleeping way better at home than in hospital. Good luck to you!
  17. Sleeved on Wed, got ome from hospital yesterday. I'm doing pretty good, just a little sore. I'm sipping constantly & also burping like a champ!

    MOnday is it

I'm just 3 days postop. While it's not exactly like I imagined, it hasn't been bad at all. Good luck to you & please keep us posted on how you're doing!
  20. I'm 3 days out & having the same issue. I had to do the laxative cleanse the night before surgery, so a little of that may still be in my system, too. I am on clears for 2 weeks & then fulls for 2 more weeks, so I can't even start purees until 5 weeks out. Ugh...I was expecting poop to be somewhat different post-op, just not quite this different!

I was sleeved yesterday, 6/19. So far, I think I'm doing really well. I have some pain & nausea, but the meds are helping that. I'm walking well, and not having any particular issues. I have slept off and on, but not more than 3 hours consecutively. I hope they decide to let me go home today!

    pre op questions

There's a big variety, so find out what your surgeon requires. Mine is generous...high protein, very low carb (<20 g/day), no portion or calorie tracking. I can eat meat, green veggies, eggs, cheese, and nuts. I have been on mine for 9 days now & have lost 18.5 lbs, which totally shocks me. Some are all-liquid diets for 2 weeks, which seems impossible to me, but people do it. Good luck to you!
