  1. Cmon, this is Psych 101...... You're about to give up all the foods you luv.........You know the nice....big.....stomach is still there and can handle any amount you cram in there. And the food probably taste better than ever before cause you're savoring each bite.........and of course the ole stomach hormones are pumping out the "foooood".....give me fooood signals. But no worries......in a few short hours.......your brain will be warning....no .....telling you.......NO no no.....if you eat that, your stomach will EXPLODE!!!!!! and you'll die.......And I have a feeling you'll listen. After all, that IS why we are all doing this. It's forcing us to NOT eat cause we have no choice!!!! And choice is what got us into this mess. Relax, you'll be fine. The Docs are used to it and can handle tons worse. Keep your head on the goal......The skinnier you.
  2. Photographers everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief that you won't be competing with them in the workforce...................
  3. Chicks....... .Guys have a sayin for that.....It's called...."Bringing a knife to a gunfight" ROFLMAO
  4. Are you sure your wife just didn't want to tell you...... you were trailing a 10 foot stream of TP stuck to your foot.
  5. Pack?? I go in to any surgery with gym shorts and a button up shirt and flip flops. Put them in the little bag they give you...... Leave in the same. Done. (Guy simple.)
  6. Be sure to check with your cardiologist, as your sleeve surgeon will want you to stop taking the Plavix (and most other meds too) about 5 days before the sleeve. In my case, with any surgery I stop 3 days prior and resume 1 day after.
  7. Well, my opinion would be somewhat slighted in favor of the sleeve due to my own personal choice based on my needs. You need to review the differences of the two and what your individual goals and expectations are, along with the lifestyle adjustments each will require after surgery. Typically, if you have a great deal of weight (very high BMI) to lose, you might expect greater losses, faster with the RNY. However it will also require greater lifestyle changes and adjustments post op. Talk it over with your surgeon and see what he suggests for you, then decide for yourself what is best. Good luck
  8. People, people, people. All companies are in the business of money. And insurance companies are the greediest. Their goal is to never pay out a dime. All this pre, pre, pre stuff is to get you to GIVE up or mess up and not provide some BS form or record they make up. Just keep trudging away and eventually they will run outa objections and have no choice but to approve it. Good luck.
  9. Not necessarily. Plavix is usually given when a DES stent is used. (drug eluting stent) If a cath or cat scan can confirm the stent is covered and no metal is still exposed, then possibly the Pavix can be discontinued. I just see it as a safety net anyway, so yeah......probably for life.
  10. I've been on Plavix for almost 5 years. I'm pre-op sleeve and I get quite a bit of heartburn and acid reflux now and doc told me to take Pepcid AC. While the cardi doc was not thrilled with my choice for WLS, she is on board so long as it helps me get to a healthy weight. Both cardiac and sleeve surgeon says Plavix for both the surgery and post-op will not be an issue.
  11. First of all, this post is not about marijuana. It's about keeping your surgeon apprised. Second, I won't even get into how many drugs are made from plants or the plants that can kill you as well. Also, I have nothing against weed. I am very fond of it. And last.......what you did or what you feel works for you is also not really the issue. As far as this post, It would be what vsgwoman's surgeon feels is right for her. Take a drag and chill out.
  12. Relax.......breathe.........rent a movie, go for a walk........ chill.......Go to your happy place........you're gonna be in and out.....no issures....and feelin the weight dissappearing with every passing minute. .......Besides, you've been there, done that.......You'll be fine.
  13. Surgery tomorrow? Cmon, You need to ask your doc, not us here. He's the one that needs to be aware of any meds you're taking. And yes, it's a drug.
  14. Hey, don't sweat it. In "guy terms" he's gonna feel like he's gettin some "strange" (legally...LOL) He'll be plenty modivated and overlook anything. My guess is you'll need a stopwatch to time "it" in seconds. Enjoy it.
  15. I've been avoiding it for way too long.........No biggie once I heard the "sedated" part.
  16. Got a Endoscopy and Colonoscopy screening scheduled to be done at the same time. Anyone here had both done at the same time? Also getting a Ultrasound of the Gallbladder. I just had an EKG, KUB and Urologist checkup and a head CT. Heart, Kidneys and noggin are OK. Any other tests I should get before surgery just to be sure?
  17. Well, my doc's support group has another meeting next Thursday and I'm not gonna miss it. I heard they are gonna be selling a.... very cute little white chiffon blouse number....... Oh my! .. can you believe it.......Everyone knows you can't wear white after Labor Day!!.......But I just have to see it! Toodles.....
  18. Momto6ix When you read "you can change your diet" and "you can do the exercise" it is confusing!. It's what makes the decision so hard. I ask myself constantly.....maybe I should just give it another try. The bottom line is......once you're overweight.......and all the habits are formed.....with no deterrents, it's hard to maintain any long term diet. With the cravings, the minimal losses, the difficulty with exercise, lack of self esteem, hunger pangs, on and on. If you're not obese, you just won't get it. A deterrent needs to be there. Not just to lose the weight, but to keep it off. The surgery is no walk in the park. There are risks, pain, restriction on intake or more pain and more risks.......always. That deterrent is what helps with the transition to being able to accomplish the changes needed and to stick with the lifestyle changes. And as you see the weight loss and feel the changes.......the self esteem changes add to the control. But it will still be all about maintaining that control and living with that deterrent the surgery accomplished. No-one wants to go thru that again or worse. I'm also hoping that once there, I will recognize how much better my life is and how much healthier I have become and my mind will get on board with my changes in habits to make it perrmanent. Just my take.
  19. . " Life is uncertain, so eat dessert first."
  20. Got a question for the guys. I've read alot of posts (all of whom were women) that complain about the large amount of gas buildup and it's discomfort. I need some clarification of this condition. Knowing how women tend to be very polite about any belching or release of gas, I need the mens description. Typically, we don't have the same viewpoints about gas as women.......(As in let'er rip anywhere) So what's the deal???? Does the gas cause discomfort cause it won't come out......or is this just a women issue. Just want to know what to expect. Do I need to have some GasX on hand or will I be able to get in a whole chorus of "Take me out to the ball game" with my belching and farting.
  21. Every procedure has a risk of complications. And what better place than the internet to express someone's frustrations with a surgery gone wrong or a terrible recovery. You can vent, rant, warn and even seek consoling from others. However, it's statistically unlikely to be a true reflection of all the surgeries and recoveries and their outcomes. If fact, it's more likely that the majority of those with routine or great outcomes are anxious to just get on with their new lives without the need to share it on the internet. But I do agree with you that ......if kept in perspective, the internet can be a useful place to gather first hand information that can help with one' s own procedure, what ever that might be. Just keep in mind........"I saw it on the internet....they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true"...........Nuf said.
  22. Hmmmmmm, let's see now........everyone in the band forum likes the band.........everyone in sleeve forums like the sleeve......and all the bypass people like their bypass........ How will I ever decide.......I know.....I'll talk to my doctor and he'll help me decide what's best for me based on my individual circumstances. Moral.......the internet and forums are not always the best place for answers.
  23. I had a comment for the powder room sex thread too, but I figured I'd get flamed so much it would burn the site down.
  24. Tell me about it........I think they were more there for the social gathering rather than any gastric surgery support. Every now and then one would walk up to me cautiously, like I was an alien and ask me if I was alright.......as if I was lost or something........I won't be going back either.
  25. OK, I'm over 40, under 100 and my bucket list is pretty well checked off.........and I see alot of you listed skydiving........Well I haven't skydived yet .....but as a pilot, there ain't no way I'm jumping out of a perfectly good airplane............ Oh yeah....... I'm not waxing either!!
