    Another day

I had hypoparathyroidism post total thyroidectomy surgery. It was the most miserable two years of my life. I had to carry around Bottles and bottles of pills just make it through the day. Calcium, calcitriol, vitamin D, magnesium, thyroid medication etc. You don't realize how much you need those little suckers until they stop working. You're very right not to take the removal of your parathyroids lightly. Most people can survive off of half of one parathyroid production, but that's not everybody. Being low on calcium makes you miserable. You can't speak normally, you can't think normally, your muscles spasm, you tremble, And your fingers and skin "tingle". I put that in quotes because it feels more like the underlining of your skin is on fire all the time. I recommend getting a second opinion especially if you're doing something as permanent as removing them completely.

    All of my December sleevers...

Thanks everyone!! Did natural bridge caverns today. Lots of climbing steep slopes. I huffed and puffed a few times but heck so did everyone else. I also did this mostly because I wanted more time with my kids. 70% kids 27% husband 3% vanity Not ashamed. Lol

    All of my December sleevers...

Holla! Went to Sea World today with my family. We were there from open until close with my sons (3 & 6 year olds). It's amazing how miserable walking around was 67 pounds ago. Today I could walk around with no problem. I fit on all the rides, even the kid ones, and in all of the chairs. Heck I even fit in the bathroom stall. So amazing. There was a dance party at the end for the kids and I danced the whole time with boundless energy even after having walked around and chased kids for almost 12 hours. This is awesome. I attached two photos. One from today and one from our last vacation in August.
  4. It is a hard thing to remember. Especially when they just really want to give you water at a restaurant. I tell them no drink and sometimes they bring it anyway so I send it back. Restaurants really freak out when you don't want a drink for some reason. I did it once and I burped and slimed for 2 hours and thought I was gonna die. One thing to remember is you only need just a few bites at a meal, so only at first does it get to you. Put your mind in the right place and it will happen.

    Pre Op Liquid Diet. Help!

I have the myoplex lite which has forever ruined me on the taste and smell of cake. I have the true results brand. The vanilla is awful but strawberry and chocolate are great. I also have now foods whey protein isolate. It is unflavored so you can add it to anything. Warm or cold. My fav post op one is the protein shots. They taste awful (fruit punch) but at 2.5oz. 26g protein and 110 calories they are perfect. She. I am not making my protein for the day I drink one. Two gulps and done. And they stave hunger. Sooooo triple bonus. I can't drink a whole shake now. I am 3 months out. I recommend the unflavored. Put it in jello, yogurt, broth, whatever. Just put it in after slightly cooled so it doesn't curdle. Also, it mixes completely without the gritty taste.

    Pre Op Liquid Diet. Help!

They really just want you to shrink your liver. Mine was two protein shakes per day and one meal of lean meat and green veggies. I was able to eat all the way to the day before surgery. The liquid diets are harsh when you have a normal tummy. Any soup that isn't chunky should work. I lost 15lbs the two weeks before with nothing as extreme as the liquid diet. Just shows you how different doctors are. You might feel more full with protein shakes than with soup though.

    Strawberry Unjury Recipes?

Make sure the protein you're buying his way protein
  10. I took all my meds the day of surgery and beyond. As long as it will fit through a straw it should be ok as long as your doctor agrees. But remember you may not need meds for much longer.

    Strawberry Unjury Recipes?

Sorry should have said unflavored by Now foods. You should get multiple flavors and definitely try the soups. You will need to get used to some form of protein substitute or you will go bald and lose all muscle pretty quick.

    Strawberry Unjury Recipes?

Come on the Jello is a great idea. I am going to do that. 3 months post op I am burned out on Protein shakes and bullets. Next time get the unflavored. You can mix with broth or slightly cooled oatmeal for a more savory option. Also Bariatric Advantage has crisps, Soups, and decent bars. I have mixed the unflavored with decaf tea and it was passable.

  14. I was so fearful I remember sitting in the hospital bed and just wondering what in the heck am I about to do to myself. I was so fearful that there was no going back, and no way to undo what I was doing to my body. But just before the surgery the nurse came to talk to me and he had actually been sleeved year earlier with his wife. He started to talk to me about all the blessings that came his way and all the health benefits that he was experiencing the better relationship with his wife and activities he was able to do. And then he showed me a picture of himself from before where he was so morbidly obese, and so sick looking that he looked like he would make it many more years. That got me started thinking that I may not be able to do what I was about to do to my body, but I also couldn't undo death and I couldn't get back years lost with my children and all the fun things that I can share with them if I didn't make myself better. It was in that moment that I knew there was no turning back, my mind was set! Even after getting hepatic vein thrombosis postsurgery and being in the hospital with such pain that I felt like I was dying, I still have had no regrets. My time with my family has been extended, my quality of life has been improved, and I feel good about myself for the first time in years!

    So frustrated! :(

I had the same experience, but I went to true results after stressing about it and since they were so experienced they were able to do all of that paperwork with the insurance company for me. It's very frustrating. If you meet the minimum requirements, don't worry. It will happen.

    All of my December sleevers...

Surgery date 12/6, presurgery weight 267, surgery day 251, today 204. Total loss 63, stalled for a week. Even after starting to train for a 5k, daily running, I am stuck at 204. I feel like the universe is against me getting to onederland. Sniff.
