  1. I think the difference is that society assumes other adults don't need to be disciplined - at least not outside the judicial system. However, we are responsible for the actions of our children, and for training them to be good citizens. If I'm going to be held accountable for someone's actions, I have to be allowed some control over their behavior, don't you think? And slapping someone - anyone - in the face is NEVER, in my opinion, acceptable. Honest answer.
  2. Musical, those wardrobe malfunctions can be pretty embarrassing, but it could always be worse. The same thing happened to a girl I didn't like much anyway, on an airplane bound for Vegas! She came struttin' back down the aisle - all the way from the back of the plane - with her bare bum showing thru 'cause she didn't have on panties.
  3. I wish she HAD worked for ANS. My experience with paid care-givers is not good. I hired MANY to take care of my mom and none were very good. The best I could hope for was that they would show up Monday morning, sober, and not steal her blind.
  4. The baby daddy is Larry Birkhead. I would bet money on it. And he will probably get custody - eventually. Did anyone else know that ANS originally named her baby Hannah Rose?
  5. In a word....no. For me, bread is out. So is fried chicken (with the skin on), Pasta, and most red meat.
  6. I just finished reading the autopsy report. ANS was taller than I realized - 5' 11" - and weighed 178 pounds at the time of her death. The "lethal" drug found in her system was Chloral Hydrate, a sleeping med usually administered only under close supervision. She had also taken Klonopin (an anti-anxiety drug), Valium (a tranquilizer), several muscle relaxants, and Antivan (another anti-anxiety drug). I don't know of any doctor who would prescribe ALL of those to the same patient, in anywhere near the same time frame. Pluse, there was the bodyguard/EMT and the nurse/companion. These so-called professionals failed her miserably. I guess they didn't want to lose their cushy paychecks, so they put their professional integrity in their back pocket and hoped for the best.
  7. So-called "recreational" drug use is nothing more than a nice way of saying, "I use drugs because I like getting high, but it's not yet interferring with my ability to lead a normal and productive life." Some people never become addicts/abusers. Many do, however. And hard core drugs, like meth and crack, are so addictive, there really is no such thing as a "recreational" user. The key word there being "sometimes". Tubal ligation is particularly hard to reverse successfully, by the way. ALL drugs? That's a terrible idea. Meth should not be legal - not to produce, not to distribute, and not to use/possess. There is absolutely NOTHING good about meth.
  8. I don't know about the rest of you, but I smacked mine when they were going up. I stopped when they reached what I call the "age of reason", meaning the age at which you can reason with them. Actually, most kids would prefer a spanking, and get it over with, rather than a long period of restriction. I never hit my children in the face, or anywhere besides their little tushes.

OMG! This is NEVER going to end! Mr P called my DH last night to tell him he had proposed to the girlfriend (who accepted, of course). Mrs. P was buried FOUR DAYS AGO! And her husband of 40 years did not even accompany the body to the cemetery. He did not tell Mrs P's brother that she had died until yesterday. In fact, he told NO ONE, outside of the half dozen people he invited to the closed casket "viewing". My husband says they (Mr P and the GF) "are in love". SO WHAT? Since when is love a license to throw integrity out the window? DH "explained" my feelings to Mr P by saying that my previous husband was ill for a long time and I "stayed with him", so I think everyone should do the same. HELLO.....wasn't that part of the contract...."until death do us part"?
  10. Can you think of a woman that you believe might have a shot at the White House in 2008? Or even the nomination from either party? Do you think that Obama's chances are poor, and does it have anything to do with race, in your opinion? Personally, I think it's an uphill battle for either of them, and NOT because of their politics.
  11. How about some pictures of the new landscaping?
  12. Cancer cures smoking...sooner or later.
  13. TOM... This is the schedule I found from HBO's web site, in case anyone else missed the March 18th show. Montana Meth Sunday, March 18 10:45 PM HBO2 Wednesday, March 21 5:05 AM HBO2 Thursday, March 29 3:30 AM HBO Signature
  14. We should invade France next? ITALY? CANADA? I know the literacy test was declared unconstitutional, but this sure makes you wonder about that, doesn't it? These people are too stupid to vote.
  15. I wish the schools would give extra credit grades to every kid who watched this program. I am going to encourage Cheyenne to watch it. Failing that, I will bribe her. Hey.....whatever works, I always say.
  16. I got this e-mail from an "old" (meaning over 50) friend today. I haven't laughed so hard in weeks! I think we need to quit saving our $2 bills and bring them out in public. We could have a lot of fun! The younger generation doesn't know they exist. STORY: On my way home from work, I stopped at Taco Bell for a quick bite to eat. In my billfold are a $50 bill and a $2 bill. I figure that with a $2 bill, I can get something to eat and not have to worry about anyone getting irritated at me for trying to break a $50 bill. Me: "Hi, I'd like one seven-layer burrito please, to go " Server: "That'll be $1.04. Eat in?" Me: "No, it's to go." At this point, I open my billfold and hand him the $2 bill. He looks at it kind of funny. Server: "Uh, hang on a sec, I'll be right back." He goes to talk to his manager, who is still within my earshot. The following conversation occurs between the two of them: Server: "Hey, you ever see a $2 bill?" Manager: "No.. A what?" Server: "A $2 bill. This guy just gave it to me." Manager: "Ask for something else. There's no such thing as a $2 bill." Server: "Yeah, thought so." He comes back to me and says , "We don't take these. Do you have anything else?" Me: "Just this fifty. You don't take $2 bills? Why?" Server: "I don't know." Me: "See here where it says legal tender?" Server: "Yeah." Me: "So, why won't you take it?" Server: "Well, hang on a sec." He goes back to his manager, who has been watching me like I'm a shoplifter, and says to him, "He says I have to take it." Manager: "Doesn't he have anything else?" Server: "Yeah, a fifty. I'll get it and you can open the safe and get change " Manager: "I'm not opening the safe with him in here." Server: "What should I d o?" Manager: "Tell him to come back later when he has real money." Server: "I can't tell him that! You tell him." Manager: "Just tell him." Server: "No way! This is weird. I'm going in back." The manager approaches me and says, "I'm sorry, but we don't take big bills this time of night." Me: "It's only seven o'clock! Well then, here's a two dollar bill." Manager: "We don't take those, either." Me: "Why Not?" Manager: "I think you know why." Me: "No really, tell me why " Manager: "Please leave before I call mall security." Me: "Excuse me?" Manager: "Please leave before I call mall security." Me: "What on earth for?" Manager: "Please, sir." Me: "Uh, go ahead, call them." Manager: "Would you please just leave?" Me: "No." Manager: "Fine -- have it your way then." Me: "Hey, that's Burger King, isn't it?" At this point, he backs away from me and calls mall security on the phone around the corner. I have two people staring at me from the dining area, and I begin laughing out loud, just for effect. A few minutes later this 45-year-oldish guy Comes in. Guard: "Yeah, Mike, what's up?" Manager (whispering): "This guy is trying to give me some (pause) funny money." Guard: "No kidding! What?" Manager: "Get this .. A two dollar bill." Guard (incredulous): "Why would a guy fake a two dollar bill?" Manager: "I don't know. He's kinda weird. He says the only other thing he has is a fifty." Guard: "Oh, so the fifty's fake!" Manager: "No, the two dollar bill is." Guard: "Why would he fake a two dollar bill?" Manager: "I don't know! Can you talk to him, and get him out of here?" Guard: "Yeah." Security Guard walks over to me and...... Guard: "Mike here tells me you have some fake bills you're trying to use." Me: "Uh, no." Guard: "Lemme see 'em." Me: "Why?" Guard: "Do you want me to get the cops in here?" At this point I am ready to say, "Sure, please!" but I want to eat, so I say "I'm just trying to buy a burrito and pay for it with this two dollar bill. I put the bill up near his face, and he flinches like I'm taking a swing at him. He takes the bill, turns it over a few times in his hands, and says, "Hey, Mike, what's wrong with this bill?" Manager: "It's fake." Guard: "It doesn't look fake to me." Manager: "But it's a two dollar bill." Guard: "Yeah?" Manager: "Well, there's no such thing, is there?" The security guard and I both look at him like he's an idiot, and it dawns on the guy that he has no clue. I don't think this lets the older generation off the hook for not knowing what an MP3 is, but it definitely levels the playing field doesn't it? LOL!! Go Figure!
  17. Is America ready for a woman president? 2008 is the year we find out, but what about Bill? If Hillary Clinton is elected to the White House, what role will her husband play? First Gentleman? First Spouse? Maybe Bill could take some lessons (or find some sympathy) from Daniel Granholm Mulhern, husband of Michigan's governor, Jennifer Mulhern Granholm. Speaking at the National Governors Conference, where he was elected chair of the spouses' group, the governor's husband said: “I have learned how to be a potted plant, and in a weird twist of fate, I get more attention because I’m a guy in a traditional female role.” The couple cemented their egalitarian union when each took the other’s last name. But until she ran for statewide office, he was the bigger deal, known for his talents as a political organizer and speechwriter while she practiced law in a local county office. Then Granholm was approached to run for attorney general of Michigan. In August 1998, as Mulhern stood listening to his wife deliver her acceptance speech, which he had crafted, he realized their 1-year-old needed a diaper change. He thought he had dealt with his feelings of jealousy at having his wife thrust into the limelight, but as he walked what seemed a quarter mile in the cavernous convention center to find a men’s room that didn’t even have a changing table, he felt a little bitter over how he was experiencing this historic moment in his family’s life. As he kneeled on the tiled bathroom floor changing his son’s diaper, he could hear God say, “Somebody’s going to lead here and somebody is going to hold this family together—and guess which job is yours?” Now, I love men, but as a woman, I have to ask.......isn't it about time they learned what it feels like?
  18. I love it!!! But then, I'm a grandparent. My 17 year old grandson is a Starbucks freak. His mom blames me. I let him drink coffee when he was a toddler. But she lets him swear - sort of. More than I think he should, anyway. I have 4 kids and only one grew up to be a coffee drinker, even though they all "dunked" when they were little.
  19. Nope, it's not just you. Did you ever see any of John Candy's movies? Summer Rental comes to mind. He was this huge, none-too-bright guy with a stunning, devoted, blonde Barbie doll wife. I love King of Queens, by the way. I used to love Roseanne, too. Right up until it got so popular that she took over every aspect of the show and it became downright STUPID.
  20. No, but as the mother of 4 (and grandmother of 10) I am well acquainted with the side effects, should you fail to use it. :biggrin1:
  21. The Arizona pharmacist (Target) WAS following the "company's rules". In fact, most states specifically exempt licensed pharmacists from having to perform any duty which conflicts with their personal or religious beliefs. Your friendly druggist may also, by the way, refuse to fill your RX for any drug that might harmfully react with other drugs you might be taking, or a drug which he has reason to believe you might abuse. I have purchased hypodermic needles at local pharmacies without a prescription (they do not require one in Texas), and have been refused syringes at another pharmacy (cited "store policy"). One pharmacy will sell insulin or "allergy" syringes over the counter, but not the bigger ones ( I needed 21 guage, 1 1/2 inch syringes). Should I have alerted the newspapers that my civil rights were being violated? I personally think the so-called "morning after" BC pill should be available over the counter.
  22. I have serious doubts about this scenario. As I said before, a woman who seeks medical attention for rape (or to have a RX written for the "morning after" pill, is VERY unlikely to become pregnant, due to the nature of the exam itself, and the routine D&C. Here is some pregnancy-via-rape info for you to chew on.... In the only large-scale study of pregnant rape victims ever conducted, Dr. Sandra Mahkorn found that approximately 80 percent chose against abortion 1. 23. Straight, liberal, Catholic supporter of gay marriage/lifestyle here. Wishing you guys/girls much success. This is the most supportive bunch of nuts in the tree.
  24. I like that. Makes me feel like Tinker Bell. I want a tu tu and some fairy dust for my BD.
  25. How many people NEVER have an ethics question arise at work? Were you ever asked to "cover" for one of your men who called in sick, when you knew they weren't really sick? Did any of your men steal time from the company by sleeping on the job? Or how about those 2-3 hour "lunches"? Did you ever have knowledge of someone who scanned another employee's badge for him/her? If you EVER lied, stole, covered up the truth or failed to report any of the above, then you went against your moral values on the job. That's just ridiculous and you know it. How many? Please tell us. And please provide some documentation. Why do you people always insist on playing the rape card? VERY few abortions are performed on rape victims. Any female who presents herself to a hospital following a rape will NOT get pregnant. A D&C is routinely done, which prevents the lining of the uterus from accepting the embryo. And as for the other 99.9% of the women who have abortions, why should she NOT have to bear some responsibility for her own actions/choices? It is not up to the pharmacist to protect her from herself. So you believe that a white woman who lives in a town that hates black people should not marry a black man and voluntarily have children? Pharmacists do not become pharmacists just so they have an opportunity to make social statements regarding BC pills. Do Muslims become butchers just so they can refuse to sell pork? I was the director of a social services agency for 15 years. I had a nifty little referral book, in which was listed every conceivable type of free/low-cost assistance in the county. I even had one for the next county over. If I had a client who wanted an abortion but had no money, was I obligated to help her obtain one? This only happened once in all that time, but the client was angry in general and looking for someone to take it out on. She was also almost 6 months pregnant. She made a complaint to my bosses - an 11 member Board of Directors elected from the community (generally church members, but rarely Catholics). The board voted to support my decision. Were they wrong? Bear in mind....it is an ex-communicable offense if I actively participate in performing or securing an abortion. The personal consequences, for me, would have been devastating. The client, on the other hand, had the option of securing abortion clinic information from any number of other sources, including the phone book (and I offered to give her our yellow pages). Do you really believe I wanted to punish this woman? I respected her decision to abort her pregnancy because I did not attempt to talk her out of it. I did not quote the Bible to her, nor did I put a guilt trip (abortion is murder, you know) on the woman. PS....after she had her abortion, the woman continued to visit the agency where I worked for various and sundry types of assistance. I was cordial to her and neither her abortion nor her complaint were ever mentioned.
