    Always Cold...

Want to hear a funny story? A number of years ago, DH insisted I see the doctor because he was sure there was something seriously wrong with me - like anemia. So off I went to our old country doctor (lived in Mineola, TX at the time - population 4,000). I told him why I was there - husband made me come in because I'm so cold all the time. He looked my chart over....and asked me, "When was the last time you had intercourse?" I just sat there....thinking....okay, I'm not a doctor, but???? Finally, I said, "What does that have to do with anything?" The good doctor said, "It has everything to do with treating frigidity." "FRIGIDITY?????? Good Lord, I'm not frigid....I'm just cold."

The dreaded protein shakes and bars

Subs? Bread? Pizza? These are NOT band friendly foods! Most of us would barf our heads off if we tried to eat that stuff. And there's not much Protein in them, either. For a few days following a fill, stick to Soups made with fat-free milk or put protein-rich soups, stews, etc thru the blender. Then move on to soft and regular foods, but use common sense. Fat free cottage cheese is good, and if tolerated, flaky fish. Chili (homemade is best) is full of protein. For Breakfast I often have crisp bacon. Oatmeal gums up my stoma and isn't a good protein source, anyway. I eat tuna for lunch sometimes, straight out of the little tin foil envelope. Low fat cheese or Peanut Butter on crackers works for me, too. I used to be the queen of carbs, pre-band. I had a life-long love affair with bread. Now it's a non-issue because I physically can't eat it. And that's a GOOD thing.

    Governor Perry-What a liar

Hell, I like Kinky better than Rick Perry! I just don't think he has a chance of winning. I wish his supporters would switch to Carol. At least she has a small chance of getting elected.

Giving Up Our Rights and Freedom

This should make you feel better (NOT). On September 4th I boarded a plane at Reagan International in Washington DC (always very tight security). I had 2 tubes of liquid/gel lipgloss in my purse. I remembered it after we were already in the security line, so I just hoped for the best, figuring that, at worst, they would make me throw it away (something I didn't really want to do, since they cost me $12.00 each). My purse breezed right thru the x-ray machine. At the gate there was a woman eating an ice cream cone and they made her get rid of it before boarding, even though she had purchased it on the "secure" side. Not sure what was up with that. If she's eating it, then common sense would tell me that it's probably not an explosive. I started to tell her, "Hey, you should have bought it before you went thru x-ray, then stashed it in your purse," but I thought better of it.
  5. Some insurance companies consider it reconstructive, in that it is the direct result of another procedure (lap band). Others won't pay unless you meet specific guidelines (apron must hang down to your hootchie, for example. I think they use more clinical terms, however...LOL.) Most will pay if it's "medically necessary", but only on removal of the apron. They will not pay for tightening the muscles, etc.

    Banding versus Bypass

My oldest son had a neighbor who died about 3 months post-op from complications of bypass. That was the deal breaker for me.

    Always Cold...

I have chronically low blood pressure and even fat, I was cold all the time. I had back surgery several years ago and the morphine drip really sent my BP thru the floor - 55/35 The nurses were freaking out, woke my surgeon up in the middle of the night (and probably got their behinds chewed out, but they thought I was bleeding internally).

    Always Cold...

Me, too. My DH told me this evening to buy some jackets and put one in each car so that when we go somewhere, I won't be miserable and freezing to death.

Any foods you can never eat again???

Why can't you have milk? If it weren't for my 2 servings of skim milk each day, I don't know how I would get my Protein.

    Governor Perry-What a liar

That's not all, Poodles. Rick Perry is the reason thousands of poor children no longer have health care. He is the reason state parks are being closed for lack of maintenance funding, even though the money is there, in the form of special fees dedicated to parks and wildlife. I wouldn't vote for Rick Perry if he ran for dog catcher.
  12. How about an overdose of prescription drugs - either accidental or intentional? The toxicology report won't be completed until sometime in October, according to MSN. I think that may be the thing that tells the tale.

    Visual affirmations

    I've lost a super model....-97 pounds.
  14. There is a Bandsters support dinner this Thursday night (Sept 21st) in Arlington at the Mercado Juarez restaurant. It starts at 6:30 and they provide us with a private room. All are welcome - pre-band, banded, family, friends, etc. I can send directions if anyone is interested. I would love to meet some of my LBT friends! We usually have 15-20 people and the restaurant has great food, plus happy hour Margaritas. This is a good place to ask questions about specific doctors, surgery centers, etc. Also, we often have people who were banded in Mexico (or even more "exotic" places). Hope you can join us! :hungry:

My not so happy Lap Banding

I have heard of this happening during other surgeries, just not lap band. Aspiration pneumonia is a nasty thing and your story is a good reminder to everyone here to be very careful with reflux post-banding, because it can cause that very same thing. And it ain't fun, believe me!

    In The News

Lord, no! Nothing funny about worshipping George Bush! More like the ultimate fear factor!
  18. Did I miss something????? Oh, well....does this count? My DH and I went to Sam's on Saturday. We noticed two women shopping together. One of them had on a tee shirt that read: Chicks love me Guys fear me Is that a not-so-subtle way of announcing that she's gay, do you think?

    In The News

Okay...speaking in tongues, weeping for salvation, and praying for an end to abortion I can live with, but worshipping a picture of George Bush??? Could these people already be in hell and just not know it?
  20. I want a guy to have a huge heart and a decent size brain. Size of other body parts is negotiable.

  23. I mentally add 3 pounds to the reading on my home scale and it agrees with my doctor's. The difference is that I weigh in my nightie at home, and with clothes (but no shoes) at the doctor's. Whenever I post pounds lost, it's according to the doctor's scale.
  24. My doctor stopped doing blind fills (without fluoro) because he said they lead to over-filling, which can cause slippage.

Good by to my Scruffy little dog

Edie... I need to pick your brain! My little house mouse has issues, one of which is a TERRIBLE phobia regarding bathing/grooming/combing, etc. I had her groomed twice - both times under heavy doses of doggy Xanex. The grooming place not-so-nicely told me not to bring her back (too much time/work). They said it took 3 people - two to hold her down and one to trim her! She only weighs 5 pounds! Anyway...just bathing her is traumatic for poor Lucy, but anything near her face/eyes (even fingertips) really sends her over the top. Any suggestions? She was 14 months old when I got her, and that was about 8 months ago. PS....I apologize for hijacking the thread.
