  1. Butterfly, Vix, and Proud - I just know what 3 dr's looked me in the eye and told me at 3 different locations - when I asked them directly if wls would shorten my life expectancy. I was trying to pick a wls doctor at that point. I liked & respected the fact that none of them held back on that. Don't get me wrong - their focus was pointing out the increase of life expectancy because of heart disease, diabetes, etc..and my family background on both sides - all the benefits the surgery would be to me, etc etc... But when I pinned them all three down with the same question if it could or would take time off my life - none denied that fact. All admitted there wasn't alot of data, either, but all had the 5 to 10 phrase and each went no higher than 18 years, which I distinctly remembered. I am not really techno to know where to tell you to find the articles I read, but I am pretty sure one was written by a Parker, a Whitmore, and something called Harvard School of Health from what I have scribbled here in my wls binder from my dr.
  2. Congrats! Awesome! Enjoy it! You are NOT fat - you look great...look yourself in the mirror every day and tell yourself that over and over.
  3. MI Journey - I was told that by 3 different doctors for wls that I met with prior to surgery at 3 different places - at each place, the '18 years' was the number given quoted to me. Each dr said '5 to 10 years', but each said the possibility of '18' - which I distinctly remember when I asked them directly about wls taking time off my life. Each dr, of course, said life expectancy with factors should as diabetes, heart disease, etc etc could & should increase, but when I directly asked them if wls itself could knock time off my life - none of the 3 denied that fact was a possibility & stated what I just said above. I have also read it. I hope it is wrong, but it doesn't surprise me. It didn't surprise me when I heard it or read it. Wls is not a natural way to lose weight. I am not kidding myself into ever thinking that it is.
  4. I can relate. I am nearly 13 weeks out...woke up regretting it & still do. I had trouble with sleep at first, but then, as I began exercising more I am back to sleeping like always. So, you may want to exercise more. I do have more energy now, so I don't sleep as hard or as long as I did before surgery. I don't mind the vitamins; I've taken Vitamins & supplements for years now since I first saw Dr. Oz on Oprah years ago. It may help to get one of those days of the week tray things & do them as soon as you get up in the morning. I haven't had the hair loss yet, but I know (and dread) it coming. I don't have a boyfriend, but I think my sex drive would be fine if I had a man! lol I haven't experienced in change in breakouts - maybe check with your nut or even a dermatologist to see what it is your body is needing to clear it up. I don't get in the fluids or Protein, either. Eating and drinking are still uncomfortable for me. It has gotten better, but it is still a struggle. I worry about the getting older, too. It freaks me out that I willingly cut 18 years off my life with this surgery, but I did it. I have to be accountable. And maybe the 18 yrs I have read about & been told about is wrong! At least, that is my hope! I truly get it. Don't let the sleeve cheerleaders who love their sleeve get you down with their comments or questions - because they don't get you & your situation....just take it day by day. It is getting easier for me to deal with this decision, maybe it will get easier for you, too. Best of luck to you.
  5. I am 12 weeks out . . .I think I know the feeling you're talking about . . .it is my new normal.

    I'm angry!

Hang in there. It gets better & gets easier. When I was able to eat a scrambled egg & a piece of toast (3 wks for me)...I felt a million times better. I am 12 weeks out now - I truly regret the surgery, but all I can do is make the best out of it. You will go through alot of different emotions. Most end up not regretting wls, most 'love their sleeve'...give it some time & you may be one of those people. Best of luck to you!

    Carboanted Drinks

I tried diet coke (I use to be a diet coke addict)...it doesn't taste the same, but it didn't bother me either. I drunk a few bud lights just last week - felt tipsy way more quickly than usual....didn't bother me really...but I didn't feel so good the next day.

    Scared & Confused

Take it from somebody who truly regrets this surgery - even though I have had no complications so far (knock on wood) - unless you are 110% sure- don't do it - it completely changes your life - and not all the changes are good. I read & researched for a year...thought I was 100 %...woke up regretting it and regret it more each day. Life is more than what Mr. scale says...I just didn't realize that soon enough. Do what is best for you & your situation. I wish you the best of luck!

    Full like after thanksgiving dinner

I am 'full' after two or three bites, but trust me..that sounds better than the reality of living it. I am 12 weeks out. Best of luck to you!

    Lifestyle change

Lifestyle changes are critical...whether it is wls or doing it on your own. Best of luck to you!

    Goal weight question

I am 5'10" - goal size 14 - goal weight 165/175....I am a little older now, so as much as I would love to say I weigh 150/155 like I did in high school....I am built differently now. I have arms now unfortunately, my thighs are bigger, and my stomach has always been my worst body part & it is where all my weight is. I got down to 199 size 16 back in 2004 or so...so I am basing my goals on that and plus I get to go to WW for free when I hit my goal (and their goal for me is 174)...I don't give Mr. scale power over me, though. I just want to feel like me again & feel good in (and out! LOL) of my clothes again..when I do, I am good regardless of what Mr. Scale says.. Good luck to us all with our goals!

    mf vs wls

If you can lose weight without wls, keep it going. Just get support for helping you maintain it...go see a dietician, a nutritionist, a trainer...doing it on your own is so much better, in my opinion. Best of luck to you. Please read, research, and prepare before you have wls...and even then, you aren't really ready till you wake up from surgery...just my opinion. Do what is best for you...good luck!
  15. I am 12 weeks out . . .I've had both, but I can't eat the entire thing just a couple of bites. Tried to heat it up later & it was yucky...so I'm wasting my money really...

To tell or not to tell

I told no one. People can be mean, intentionally and unintentionally. I am single, so I have no one to tell really. I didn't want to worry my family or friends - they have enough going on without worrying about my weight issues. My advice - think long and hard before you tell anyone...once it is out there, there's no going back. Best of luck to you. Do what is best for you, everybody is different about it.

    90 lbs lost

    Congrats!!!
  18. I am a size 10/11...my tens had gotten too small for a few years...now I am back in them. I think it is just the swelling is gone now where my diet is different now. I am 5'10"...my feet are not going to shrink, but they have stopped the every day swelling out of my shoe...
  19. Go see a nutritionist or dietician to help you with a diabetic meal plan...do everything you can to do it on your own. Only get wls as a LAST resort - wls is not a guarantee that you will be healthy afterward. Best of luck to you!
  20. It's different for everybody, but it just may be your new normal. I take Prilosec now. I had never had heartburn in my life til I had this surgery. Let your dr & nut know.
